Not a 4 star hotel but adequate. Unremarkable hotel - with an interesting layout….several buildings surrounding a communal courtyard. In good weather the internal communal courtyard ( no gardens but potted plants and attractive setting) are fine as a lounge area but only if it was not too cold or raining. And In good weather the restaurant is located in this courtyard. So one would need to walk through the restaurant courtyard to reach one’s room in one of the four buildings.
The hotel has over 250 rooms and similar to U.S.hotels caters to large parties of business visitors. Three of the 5 days of our booking there were business conferences in various rooms in the 4 buildings and a party in the communal courtyard. Although others have recommended a courtyard room, beware ......partygoers in the courtyard can be noisy as well.
Our room was classed as standard. It was small but satisfactory. In the renovation of the older plumbing in the bathroom, the seal between the tub, the wall and the glass shower partition failed so a fair amount of water puddled on the floor after each shower. Reported to the staff, it was addressed but unfortunately failed to solve the problem. Thank goodness for the large absorbent towels.
Breakfasts buffets were adequate (20 Euros per person). They catered to an international clientele so had a variety ( rice and accompaniments, meat and cheese and bread, hardboiled eggs) but probably failed to meet anyone’s expectations. I had scrambled eggs ( adequate) and bread (small baguette - wonderful) and a container of yogurt. Maybe like most buffets it provides quantity but not quality.
As far as the location it is actually in the 11th A ( not the Marais,). I liked the location although 2 of our 4 member group thought the street “sketchy”. It is walking distance to the Pompidou centre and Place des Vosges and the Bastille ( and the market there). And the Monoprix and BHV and St Paul’s Village. We found several lovely restaurants in the 4th A. near by. There is a metro stop near by (Metro 8) to reach the Eiffel Tower. You’ll need to change trains or find other transportation for the other popular sites…..Unless you like walking, and we did so we just walked.
One expects in a multi- lingual setting that you occasionally have problems. And we did. The breakfast buffet could only be charged to one’s room. There was a communication issue so we were charged for 6 breakfast buffets instead of 4. (120 euros nested of 80 ) At check out we were told by a considerate employee that although he understood the error there was nothing he could do but take my email address and promise to correct the error. So far unresolved.
The hotel served its purpose but I would not recommend or return.
