“Nice small hotel with good service”
Reviewed 13 April 2012

Stayed one night only. Location is a bit away from the centre of Paris, being to the east near Nation station, but everywhere can be easily accessed by train. The hotel is small, though well decorated and the service was very good. We had a late flight out and they let us come back late and gave us free coffee.
Rooms are modern but a bit small if you are not used to Parisian sizes. Yet it had all needed amenities incl a safe. Breakfast a bit limited but okay. Just watch your head going down the stairs to the breakfast room.

Room Tip: Get a superior room.

This hotel looks like a chain like Thistle. Our room was small and a bit airless (window was high, small and barred) but clean, safe and modern with a great shower. We paid for a 137 euro night room for two people and got up-graded to a deluxe room on arrival. Hotel is easy to find and near to a tube station. Staff were welcoming and spoke English. Breakfast was good - nice spread of French food (croissants, bread and cheese!). Nice touches included free wine and chocolate eggs as welcome Easter treat.

We would recommend this hotel "Le Grand Hotel Francais" to anyone who is going Paris. This modest hotel is ranked 19th out of all the hotels at Tripadvisor (as corrected in May 2011 when we booked)! Four Seasons, rooms starting from 879euros per night, is ranked 15th! So glad we secured the last superior double room on venere.com the day we left Singapore (may 2011). Quite last minute. Around 130euros per night for superior double room, this is quite a bargain for a nice room, good location to 2 train stations (one just next door, the other major station is 5mins away). Easy to get anywhere or to Gare de Lyon train station (we came from Nice) or the airport. Quiet but safe residential neighbourhood and best of all, the friendly staff.

The room is very small but adequate and modern. There's a ipod dock too. The bed is queen and not king.. abit small..We asked the hotel staff to help us print the Eiffel tower and later the Disneyland tickets. And it was done in a second with a smile. We were always greeted warmly whenever we passed by the reception! Free wifi too! This was better than staying at those hugh hotel chains. We had a room (to sure to ask for one) with a balcony. It's really lovely to people watch there.

There's really a very nice patissier next door to the hotel. Do try out the nice French bread and pastries! And plently of french bistros (a nice Thai resturant too).

Room Tip: Ask for a room with Balcony!

My wife and stayed in this wonderful little hotel in March. Upon arriving, you are greeted by wonderful front desk staff. Very knowledgeable, very friendly, and very very funny !

We got an upgrade to one of the corner rooms (2nd floor) that had 3 walkout windows each of which you can walk out onto a small balcony. Having the windows was a very nice feature of the room, but it did get a bit colder at night. I realize that in March, not just Paris, but all of the other European cities I visited, the air-con / heater is shut off. Room and bathroom are a bit small, but very manageable.

The buffet breakfast was adequate, with various breads, yogurt, boiled eggs, cheeses and cold meats.

In terms of location, quite accessible. There's 2 metro stations (2 different lines) on opposite ends of the street. The metro stations are a good 5 mins walk to get to them. Not a biggy unless you are planning to leave via metro - not recommended. If you have large luggage, you also have to wheel your luggage up and down flights of stairs as you travel through a few metro stations to catch the RER train to the airport. We ended up taking the taxi to the airport.

Overall, hotel is highly recommended.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Francais for three nights from 19th March. This is a comfortable, well-managed hotel and well deserves an excellent rating. The staff on reception were friendly and welcoming and gave plenty of advice on places to visit, restaurants and even helped with our French! The hotel has the character of an old building combined with the comfort and cleanliness of a carefully considered renovation. Our room was spotlessly clean, well furnished with a well designed bathroom. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast with fruit, yoghurt, muesli and fresh croissants, although there was plenty of cheese and ham if required. After the first day our coffee order and room number was remembered by the lady running the breakfast room which was very impressive! We would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return.

One of the most friendly hotels I have visited. The staff were courteous and extremly helpful. The hotel is in a nice location with plenty of good restaurants within easy walking distance. Great for access to the Metro.RER stop at top of the road (Nation) so easy to get to from the airport. The rooms are very nicely decorated and if I can use the bathroom at a height of 1.91m anyone can. All told I would use the hotel again without hesitation and would urge others to give it a try.

An absolute pleasure to write a review for the Grand Hotel Francais.

This was our second stay. The first was last July to watch the end of the Tour de France.

We asked in advance if we could have the same room (113) . It is on the first floor with 3 large juliet balcony style doors facing out to the street.

Would I stay again; absolutely. Although there are thousands of hotels in Paris to choose from, this must be one of the friendliest.
