My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights, just over 3 years ago.

Ignore date it says we stayed - that was the oldest date TripAdvisor's website would allow!

Seems strange to have delayed so long before writing a review, but on our last day in Paris - several hours and kilometres after we'd checked-out from the hotel - my wife's purse was stolen on the Metro by a very large gang of pickpockets (one of whom I eventually captured and handed to French police), so this rather overshadowed our trip at the time and all thoughts of writing an hotel review were forgotten!

Firstly it is important to understand and accept that most hotel rooms in Paris have VERY small bathrooms... Therefore we paid a little extra when booking, for a room with a "larger" bathroom. We were very glad we did, as even the larger bathroom was small but adequate. There was I believe a slight "privacy" problem with the bathroom window but "when in Paris" I guess...!

The room itself was nicely furnished and decorated, the bed was comfortable and large enough and the housekeeping staff did a great job keeping it clean - the room always looked and smelled lovely when returning after a long day's sightseeing.

Due to cost, we decided not to eat breakfast at the hotel. Instead we bought tasty pastries & coffee from the bakery at the end of the street & had breakfast in our room. One evening, instead of eating out we bought a takeaway Chinese meal locally and when we walked through reception, the staff invited us to sit down in the breakfast room & they brought us plates, cutlery etc. to eat with.

The reception staff all spoke good English, were incredibly friendly & welcoming and very knowledgeable/forthcoming about Paris including transport, the daily weather forecast etc.

In terms of where it is in central Paris & proximity to the Metro system, Hotel Duret was ideal for sightseeing and offered us good value for money. We are originally Londoners and widely travelled, so we understand that ALL major cities have certain problems & so long as you understand this & keep your wits about you, it's location should not be problematic.

The hotel rooms look out onto typically bustling Parisienne streets, so if you open the windows in the morning, you will be greeted by some street noise. This actually added very positively to our experience of Paris, but some guests used to a quieter life might not find opening the window quite as positive.

There is a lift in the hotel but it is small & I must admit I never trust Continental lifts, so we tended to take the stairs!

Would I recommend Hotel Duret? Yes, most certainly over similarly priced Parisienne hotels. Would I stay there again? Most certainly yes. Just accept that it is in a busy capital city and that you won't be overwhelmed by the space in the bathroom!

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for a slightly bigger bathroom. When we stayed, the rate for breakfast was high so we bought delicious pastries & coffee from the nearby bakery & had breakfast in our room.

My husband and I were here on honeymoon, as we were on honeymoon we wanted luxury and as nice as the hotel was it was certainly not luxury. As soon as we walked in we were told we had not paid (even though we had,and was very expensive for what we had) the lady on the desk was not helpful even though i was getting upset, she was in no hurry to check we had paid and told us to go to our room once there as our phone had no signal i had to make a call to the uk to check we had paid which ended up costing €17. When we returned to the reception we were told we had paid (with no apology). The room was the smallest hotel room i have had (smaller and more basic than a premier inn) and had no tea and coffee facilities, and a tiny shower room with stains on the wall. Luckily we only had one suitcase as the room was tiny. When we asked to upgrade we were told the hotel was full so could not and they gad no idea we were on honeymoon even though the travel agents had told them. The walls were also terribly thin, on our second night we could here the man next door on his phone clearly and also the person on the other end of the phone! We could also hear his tv and him snoring! And we could hear his shower and toilet flushing! Other than the lady on the first day the staff were helpful and the hotel was clean, we just found it very expensive for what we had and the stress and upset on our arrival spoilt our first day. The wifi constantly logged out and on our last day cut us off before check out. I do not see why the hotel is classed as 4* im aware that central city hotels are expensive but this i considered very expensive and would class it a 3* as basic things like tea and coffee would be beneficial after a long day as the room service tea or coffee was nearly €5! Would not stay here again or recommend the hotel.

Stayed there on business for one night and the location is on the quieter side of Arc de triomphe. Walking distance to Champ Elysee. The staffs were friendly and helpful.
Would recommend for those who would like to to be away from too much hustle and bustle which Paris could be at certain areas. Great boulanger at the corner and some restaurants which I didn't get to try. Overall, an excellent experience.

Very unusual experience in that the 2 rooms were a completely different experience. Our booked room was typically Parisian tiny, and we couldn't see why this was a 4 star hotel, whem we've had plenty of 3 star better places. A real problem with paper thin walls, so we heard everything we didn't need to hear...Fortunately a (paid) upgrade was available so we did, and had a wonderful suite for an extra 40 euros per night, which in this context was a bargain. So, this can be an excellent hotel- or not...
