“Nice rooms, infuriating Wi-fi, great transport link”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

I stayed in this hotel for business, on a 3 night business trip whilst doing business out in La Defense. I needed a hotel first and foremost that was easy to access the RER network (Line A) and which wasn't too small or dingy. what I found was a very nice hotel with spacious rooms, pleasant colour scheme (my room was a pretty light purple with blue curtains) and some very pretty furniture. The bed was very comfortable, both long enough and wide enough for me. And for what it was worth, the bathroom was very good, modern, kept clean, hot water without any problems or temperatuer fluctuations.

The staff were fairly quintessentially French. Not polite, per se, but quite amusing and amicable, and certainly made you feel welcome. My reservation was put under my first name rather than surname, and upon trying to check in I said "I have a reservation, Mr. XXXXX" to which the reply was "No you don't". Part of the experience.

The negative for me for my business trip was more related to the wifi, which is given freely and for as many devices as you like. And for internet browsing on my laptop, I had no issues at all. However, on my iPhone 5, the wifi either didn't work or the signal kept resetting, which meant I couldn't use my phone for much browsing at all, and I couldn't FaceTime my family, which was very frustrating. Likewise, my laptop linked up fine to the internet, but I could not remote-connect to my office as the signal seemed to be resetting itself continuously. So I was unable to really work in the evenings.

All told, it was a nice hotel, the area itself is a mixed bag of nice bistros, taverns and Japanese restaurants, with a few random assortments (the hotel is not 20 meters from a sex shop either side...) mixed in for fun. But easy enough for any business traveller to use, especially if you aren't bothered about any remote connections to office networks.

The hotel is located in a quiet, typically Parisian neighborhood, within a walking distance from two metro stations and the Gare d'Lyon train station. The Opera Bastille building and the Bastille Square with many bars and nice restaurants are just a few minutes walk away. Rooms are small, but cozy and nicely furnished, the bathroom quite new. The staff were very responsive to all our needs.
The only drawback I would name is the unstable wifi connection. I would also recommend to have breakfast at a small bakery across the street, with amazing French pastry and coffee, instead of the 12-euro worth hotel buffet.

I stayed for business in this hotel. It does not have much room like everywhere in Europe, however, the experience with the staff was awesome; very accommodating and helpful in English. The room was small but quiet (far from the street) and extremely clean. The bead was very comfortable, just perfect to lay down after a long trip from the USA. I arrived at the hotel early en the morning after no sleep in my flight from US. Initially I was told that obviously my room was not yet available so I waited in the small lobby (dying to sleep) for about one hour. They gave me my room at 11AM which was greatly appreciated as you may imagine. The closeness to Gare d'Lyon was great as I could take trains anywhere in Paris. I also enjoyed walking nearby the La Bastille full of great restaurants. Last but not least, there was a 1 mile running/jogging path on an elevated garden, great for jogging away from the busy streets around the area. The downside was that the garden opened like at 8:30AM a little late for an early morning jogger like me; I assume it closed at nights to avoid influx of countless homeless fellows nowadays populating the streets of Paris.

Room Tip: Stay away from the rooms with windows facing the street

Purely a one night stay on the way from China to the South. A little difficult to locate (my fault, not theirs) but once we did find it, it was superb. Instant check in, comfortable bed, free wi-fi, great bathroom for two grubby travellers, and the most spectacular, unlimited continental breakfast, inluding great fresh coffee. I cana't speak highly enough of the hotel.

Room Tip: With your back to the clock tower outside Gare de Lyon, walk straight across the road and take your...

My partner, our son, and I stayed in the Hotel Lyon Bastille for 4 nights in September 2013, staying in a triple room where our 18yo son had a single bed in a room off the main room. Both rooms were of good size with comfortable beds and french doors that opened to look out onto Rue Parrot. The main room also had a desk and small refridgerator. I was a little disappointed at no tea/coffee making facilities. Free wi-fi worked well. We used the air con each evening because we found the room a little warm and that helped for comfortable sleeping. We found the small digital tv fixed to the corner above the main door to be in an awkward spot and we could only find french channels, although it was supposed to have english channels too. We didn't bother much with it.
I was impressed with the large bathroom, with shower over the bath.
The hotel does cater a continental breakfast but we found it a little expensive and so frequented a local patisserie just down the block. There is also a great little general shop on the corner across the road that sells almost anything you could need from drinks, snacks, toothpaste, batteries - you name it.
The Gare de Lyon is a main train station accessing both underground and overground lines which is helpful for getting around Paris to see the sights, and it's only 5 mins walk down the block from the hotel. Overall I would definitely recommend the Hotel Lyon Bastille - it was clean, comfortable and in a good location.

Stayed there last weekend (Sep 2013) for two nights. Less than 5 min walk to Gare de Lyon which has great train connections. 10 min walk to Bastille stop. Felt safe in the area when arrived in the evening and got welcomed by a very straight forward recepcionist who gave us the keys to our rooms but didn't provide any information about breakfast or check out time. Room was very small but not a problem for me. Very clean and cozy. The only down point in my opinion was the shower attached to the wall above the bath, knee high... if you wanted to wash your hair you'd be in there for at least 20 minutes trying to hold it while washing yourself.
Maybe it was only in our room, not sure. They had a lift which fit 2 people with a squeeze. I'd recommend it to friends who want to stay a weekend and don't want to spend a lot of money in Paris and still get a decent hotel.

My wife & I stayed at the Hotel Lyon Bastille for 1 week in July. We returned after we had enjoyed 10 days there in 2011.

The staff are wonderful, the room is clean & well appointed for 3 star, and breakfast is available onsite if want it. The facilities work well . . AC, fridge, free wireless etc.

The hotel is close to the Gare de Lyon . . Metro / RER / Train station. The neighbourhood has several attractions and is close to The Bastille & The Seine. With the fantastic public transport in Paris, any other location is just a ride or two away. There are neighbourhood facilities . . cafes, boulangeries, corner shops, supermarket, ATMs. The wonderful restaurant . . A la Biche au Bois is just around the corner, and well worth booking.

We hope to return to Paris in the future, and the Hotel Lyon Bastille will be where we will happily stay.
