Marmotel Etoile
Ranked #1,235 of 1,804 Hotels in Paris
Reviewed 25 August 2010

I was trapped in Paris during the volcano so my short trip was extended. All 15 nights at this hotel. The rooms were clean, typical smaller European rooms, no air conditioning, the staff was helpful and the location was fantastic. The Argentine stop, Line 1, is only feet from the front door. Line 1 takes passengers from La Defense, to Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, etc... Breakfast was typical, 8 euros for a continental breakfast: coffee, bread, butter, croissant.

Best Features: location, good price for Paris
Negatives: somewhat small rooms, the walls are a bit thin, no air conditioning

Overall, if you are looking for a np frills, European hotel in a great location, and budget friendly for Paris, this is a good choice. In hot weather, I think the rooms may be uncomfortable without air conditioning.

so this hotel we picked because it looked the nicest of all the ones in the price range. glad we picked it if the others would have been worse. small room, but does suffice. no noise from the street unless the window was open. no a/c so it was a bit hot. not "two steps" from the arc du triumph like they say. take the subway to the argentine statiion to get right outside the hotels door. breakfast simple but pricey - grocery store across the street is cheaper. you do have to leave the key there, cant take it with you when you go out for the day. bathroom small, handheld shower head, no shampoo provided. did walk from here to the louvre and notre dame so it is possible .

I stayed at this hotel with some friends based on the reviews I had read. It is definitely a budget hotel - no elevator with narrow staircases, breakfast was coffee/croissants/bagette. The rooms were very clean and bed was comfortable. Wifi works and will cost you 9 euros for 24 hrs. Get a room with a shower instead of tub, there's no hook for the shower hose in the tub so you end up holding it the whole time. Rooms facing the front are loud if you want to sleep with the windows open to get ventilation. Rooms facing the courtyard on the top floor would be best. Good bakery right on the corner, Argentine metro stations also at the corner and walking distance to good bistro - Le Hide. If you want to be near the Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysee, then this is a great value.

My daughter and I stayed here last summer and it was very nice for the money. The room was clean and quiet (we were on the coutyard) and very convieniently located within walking distance to the Eiffle Tower, the Arc de Triumph, the Champs eleysee and was only a block away from a "hop-on-hop-off bus stop".

Clean, good location and excellent value for the money.

We booked our stay on the hotel site and everything gone well.
Small but comfortable hotel with very warm welcoming from the staff. Very clean and quiet (if the room is oriented back yard). Close to few main attractions by foot (Champs Elysee, Eiffel Tower). At 10 m from the subway station Argentine, which assure the connection with almost every location in Paris.
The price was good comparing with overall price level around.
We stayed 8 days and we were positively impressed by friendly, trustful and helpful staff. The room was small but cozy, recently renovated. We had a very good wi-fi (internet) connection. Still, the TV in the room had only 5 channels; phonic isolation between rooms, not very good.
Working temporary or just visiting Paris for a week or more Marmotel Hotel is an excellent choice.
We enjoyed very much our stay at this hotel and would be choose again if going again to Paris.

We had stayed at this hotel based on the raves seen here and we were quite disappointed. The one picture and the raves make it seem like this is the best bargain in Paris. Yes, it has a great rate of 87E per night, but thats about it...and I would say thats the only thing great at this hotel. Picture driving on a US interstate and needing to stop at the motel on the side of the road. Thats this.
The room was small and dreary. The walls are in major need of paint or repapering. The window didn't shut completely this there was draft. Luckily, we were facing the courtyard so we weren't getting the noise from the street. The bed was flimsy and the comforter musty and I would recommend that for a couple (if you MUST stay here due to budget restrictions) get the room with 2 twin beds which seemed nicer after we peeked in. We were in Room #121. The bathroom was very small and the shower is big enough for a child. I am a slim guy and had trouble. Plus the show head faces the wrong direction, so be prepared to flood the bathroom. The shower itself was moldy.
Overall, the ONLY reason to stay here is because it's inexpensive shelter. They have heat and hot water and it's relatively clean. It's no Four Seasons.
