“Great location, hotel needs lots of work”
Reviewed 27 September 2012

stayed for 3 nights in july, booked through easyjet as a package which was easy enough and experienced no problems, VERY reasonably priced for being so close to the Madaeleine Church (beautiful and central to most points of interest in Paris) arrived and were greeted nicely enough although the receptionist did comment that it was great to see an American who could speak French well ( I am English...) and was confused when we stated that the reservation was under a certain name (he said did not exist) when we said was it under a different (EXACT same surname but my friends fathers forename) we were told of course, they had our room ready. Were informed our twin room was no available that we had requested but were to be given the best room in the hotel, not a problem for us but could easily be for others not comfortable in sharing a bed with a friend. Arrived to the 'best' room on the 6th floor from the elevator which was more like a box, to small typically parisian room, found burns on the floor and a questionable whicker bed, which was easy to laugh about but hardly 3*. Bathrooms are tiny but obviously recently renovated with power showers (lacking power) and well stocked with toiletries, our toiler however, did not flush without 'pumping' the handle around 20 times, very inconvienent. Did not have breakfast any day even though it was included as viewed the breakfast room our first day to find by 8am nearly all the questionable food had vanished and was not our cup of tea! would recommend breakfast at Fauchon the deli to the back of the church in the corner of the square which is lovely. Maid came daily which was unexpected and very lovely, safe was in our room and easy to use, TV in our room had british channels and everything was clearly written in good english for those who do not speak French, hotel gladly watched our bags after we had checked out and only had problems with the elevator once when it stopped on every floor on its way down, possibly another hotel guests idea of fun, over hotel was sufficient, and location is superb, would maybe consider staying again if rooms were upgraded or burned carpets replaced :)

Room Tip: stayed on top floor, room looked out onto court yard of another building, possibly offices where no...

After booking 5 months in advance, we were notified 2 days before arriving that the reservation had been cancelled! Apparantly through an automated system that had experienced problems in autherising our card. The fact was that we were not notified of the problem and the booking was automatically cancelled, leaving us without accomodation 2 days before our flight arrived.

I was in this hotel for business fro 3 nights. Rooms are very small, it is impossible to stay 2 people in a room, also for 1 people is very difficult to move inside room, especially bath room is so small and need to do some not confortable movements to entry in the shower, all furnitures are old and not in good conditions. breakfast is poor and they recommend you to take only 1 dish. seams me not appropriate the classification of 3 stars, i was in several 2 stars hotel that were much better and price is high for this kind of hotel. the only positive aspect is just in the centre of paris.

Just returned from a short break to Paris and we stayed at the Hotel Newton Opera.

The postives are that the location is perfect. 2 minute walk from Madeleine metro station and only 10 minutes to the Place de la Concorde, Place Vendome, Galeries Lafayettes etc.

The price is also reasonable bearing in mind the location. We got a good rate from laterooms.com

However the hotel itself could do with some attention. Some of the carpets are worn out and the decoration is 'faded'.

The room itself (25) was very small, but we were happy with this as it was a short break and we weren't planning on spending much time in the room. The bed was comfy and there was adequate storage space. There were no noise problems.

The bathroom was excellent with a power shower.

We were concerned however that there was some blood stains on the fabric wallpaper and in the bathroom on the tiles and doorframes. Hopefully just a previous guest who'd had a nosebleed!

Breakfast is provided in the restaurant in the basement, but this was expensive (12 Euros) and we found it cheaper to get breakfast at one of the numerous cafes nearby (Berts does a breakfast for 6 euros)

But we had a great stay and were pleased to stay in such a conveniently located hotel in a very friendly neighbourhood.

I am not sure who is at fault here but we booked two rooms with roof top terraces that this hotel apparently has. We made our booking through short breaks and thats when things started to go wrong. We ended up in a "superior" room where the door handle came off in our hand and on the THIRD floor, quite a long way from the "roof top" terrace we had envisaged. We assumed that the manager had pulled a fast one and let them out hoping we would not remember? Not so, beware what you book with short breaks as they now deny ever mentioning the roof top phrase and I don't have the means to dispute the claim any longer. Caveat Emptor I think is the expression. I would use SB again but not this hotel Just DOUBLE check what you book and record YOUR conversations as SB took weeks to supply me with just ONE of my 3 recorded conversations. They as you have worked out for yourselves can't find the deal clinching roof top conversation.

this hotel was the one we were directed to when the Odeon hotel we had been booked into was overbooked ; they claimed this was a comparable hotel. The whole package had been booked through Eurostar who owe us big time.
I have to say i have stay3de in many hotels in my life, but this is absolutely the worst. We didnt actually stay there, so bad were the rooms, and we begged and cajoled other hotels till eventually we found a berth. The Newton - where to begin.Antediluvian carpets , surly staff smoking away when we arrived; rooms that are so small as to literally be big enogh for lumpy beds only ; hairs of dubious provenance on the squalid bathroom floors, an overwhelming smell of javel (bleach) and fictures fittings and carpets that hadnt seen any change since the days of Edith piaf - who by the way would never had graced this tawdry boarding hous'es gates.Truly AWFUL. If this is the last hotwl in Paris available DO NOT GO TO PARIS!!

Room Tip: never ever go here....

WE arrived at the hotel at 3pm only to be told that due to an admin error our room had been cancelled that morning and subsequently relet. They had arranged for us to stay at another hotel ,supposedly an upgrade, but as we didn't see our original room we could not judge. They paid for the taxi to take us to the the alternate hotel but as we had an early start the next morning the alternate hotel was not convenient. I complained to our booking agent and have just rec'd a reply from them in which they report that the management of Newton Opera claim they had a plumbing malfunction on the day in question. What a load of rubbish. If they had told us this lie when we arrived we may have been more understanding. Take our advice do not stay at this establishment, the management could not lie straight in their own beds
