Just back from 3 nights in Hotel Josephine. Staff were fantastic, helpful, friendly, polite and all spoke English for us struggling Scots. The room was small as expected but perfectly formed. The beds were super comfy and clean. The room had everything we needed and as it is quite chilly there at the moment the windowsill served us well as a makeshift fridge for water, cheese and beer! The location is great. Very near metros and RER stations. We felt safe enough walking around Monmarte at night for a drink. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

I don't usually write reviews, which is quite hypocritical of me, as I read them all the time! But I was so impressed with this hotel I felt obliged to.
My fiancé and I have just got back from a three night stay in this lovely hotel in Paris.
We arrived by euro star and walked to the hotel, it is about a 20 minute walk.
On arrival check in was quick and easy. The reception staff we're all very helpful. They explained to us the happy culture happy time, which I had read about on their website but hadn't fully appreciated what it meant. There are 20 happy culture hotels in Paris all of which have a happy hour between 6-8pm. As guests of the chain you can visit any hotel between these times and sample free drinks and nibbles. Some hotels offer wine, others cocktails and one even had champagne. There are 4 in close walking distance to Josephine and my partner and I tried them all during our three nights stays. Every hotel was quirky and individual but what was consistent was the welcoming and friendless of the staff. We had wondered whether we would get a frosty reception at the other hotels, popping in for a free glass of wine! But we couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised, the staff chatted happily to us and seemed genuinely pleased that we were using the happy hour time as it was clearly intended. Never experienced such a quirky and generous offering from a hotel chain before and when you've spent all day walking around Paris, it's a lovely way to weave your way back to the hotel!
Anyway the room itself, was small as people have said. But it wasn't so small that you couldn't move around. We had hand luggage sized suitcases which fitted comfortably under our bed and there was a wardrobe that fitted all our clothes for 4 days. The photos on the website are quite reflective of the room sizes so we certainly weren't surprised or disappointed. For us personally, on a city break like this we want to be out and about taking in the sights of the city and only want to use our room to sleep comfortably and get ready in, which it was more than adequate for.
When we arrived our room was very hot, but it had huge opening windows on to a Juliet balcony. we opened the windows wide for 10 minutes and the room cooled down significantly. We also turned the radiator off, it really wasn't a problem.
Breakfast was delicious, the lady that works in the quirky little cellar where you eat breakfast was very happy and friendly. Hot Scrambled eggs and mini sausages were a surprise addition for us, I presumed it would be cold food only. The pastries and yoghurts etc were all really tasty and set you up for the rest of the day well.
Location wise, we loved it. Moulin rouge is about 3 minutes walk up the road and scare coeur is about 20 minutes. Also the love wall is very near by and recommended to us by reception. We didn't know anything about it but it was so lovely to see. We walked everywhere on our trip, down to the Norte Dame cathedral, to the Eiffel Tower and everywhere in between. The Eiffel Tower is about and hours walk but you see so much more of Paris this way and the walk was comfortable, not hilly or strenuous.
Area wise we felt completely safe day and night. When you get to the main road with the moulin rouge on it, there are sex shops and strip clubs. We also saw one group of 3 prostitutes, once. But other than that there was no mention of sex in the area at all. And there was no pestering, we did not feel uncomfortable. The streets are filled with bars and restaurants, where everyone sits outside under heaters. I found it a lot more authentic Paris then the big roads and cafes near to the seine.
The only negative I could possibly say about the hotel, is that our room although decorated wonderfully, was starting to look tired in places. There was a patch where the wall paper was peeling off and the skirting paint was tired and chipped. It didn't ruin the whole effect of the room for us at all and it really didn't impact on our stay. But it was noticeable and therefore the staff must be able to see it. A quick lick of paint and sticking down the wallpaper wouldn't take long but would stop those more critical than us, from being able to moan!
If we ever visit Paris again then we would not hesitate to stay at this hotel or one of its neighbouring happy culture hotels again. It was amazing value for money and their quirky, friendly, happy vibe really added to our trip. Thank you.

Great Location: 5 minutes walk from Metro Station. Near to Moulin Rouge & Galleries Lafayette. 40 minutes walk to Tuileries Garden.
Helpful Staff: They were always conscientious. Willing to help. Open to Requests. Kind.
Good Style: We had a nicely decorated vintage style room. The lobby had a nice, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.
Unique Brand: Something which was unique to this hotel is it's Happy Hour. They offered a choice of cocktail or an alcohol called absinthe in our hotel but they have many other hotels in Paris in which they have the same offer of Happy Hour with something different in each location.

We gave the hotel a rating of 4 out of 5 because in our room there was a portable heater which worked effectively but noisily so we had to turn it off at night and it became a little cold. Possibly we should have said this to the management but we were so tired and did not want to have to pack again and change rooms.

I was a little worried about booking here but this turned out to be a great option if your on a tight budget. If you want a no frills, clean, inexpensive hotel in Paris this is a great option. The room was very small, especially the bathroom, but clean. No problems with hot water or water pressure in the bath. I did not notice any bad smells or have any problems with the bedding. There was no heat in the room except a small electric heater, which worked fine. Carpet in the room was old and worn. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Excellent full breakfast. Two blocks from the metro. Very basic, just a clean, safe place to stay inexpensively. Free coffee, Books, computer and honor bar in lobby.
