Enjoyed stay again...everything we needed, excellent buffet breakfast included with 3 nite stay. Location can't be beat...walked to dinner every night except when we went to Opera Garnier which is just a Metro ride away!

Only complaints...guests who are noisy late at night and do not respect no smoking, and the cleaners..they do a grat job but I think if the Make Up this Room sign is posted in the AM the room should be done by 4...esp in the winter and bad weather. Also whatever is used to clean the hardwood floors is too strong smelling..like a punch in the face when we returned one day and then woke up stuffy and ill.

Room Tip: Larger rooms at end of cooridors

Just look at the pictures. Curtain falling off the window, outlet popping off, the room (a double) was so small you could not walk past the beds or put your luggage anywhere, my black coat was covered in white powder from the stained wall in the open hanging area, little to no light, grime in the bathroom, look at what they consider a desk and bed stands. Even by European standards it was a disgrace. They are renovating and the chemical smells made me physically sick each day.
Look at the halls and stairs. They had small towels on the landings which my friend tripped on and almost fell down the stars.
Now for the staff...there was only one late night, weekend desk attendant that would greet us and even try to answer a question or offer guest service, a gentleman.
The day staff and manager spent their time standing in the front door entrance SMOKING and socializing with friends that would come in. You had to walk through them to enter the hotel and they made no attempt to make your passage easier.
No coffee or HOT WATER for tea was available once breakfast was over and we were chastised
for heating up tap water in the microwave and using OUR OWN TEA BAGS. One night the night desk attendant took chairs and built a barrier to the small dining area so we could not access the microwave to heat up our water.
Some of the rooms have been renovated: they painted, but appear to still have the same furnishings except for the top floor which appears to be a new addition.
They do not allow you to change the temperature setting. We had to leave the window open due to the smell and powder from the paint and renovations taking place.
We FROZE.
We used SHOW OF THE MONTH and although I had questioned them about the bed bug issue and comments found here on TA they reassured me the hotel HAD BEEN RENOVATED and there were no worries.
The group that traveled with Show of the Month are in agreement that this was unacceptable and no human should have to inhale chemicals and cigarette smoke each time they enter / exit a hotel they are paying to stay in.
Paris and the Parisians are WONDERFUL! We met many kind, helpful, patient people and enjoyed all but our time in the hotel.
Thank goodness our experiences in Paris went beyond the inhospitable front desk clerks, manager and walls of this hotel.
Can't wait to visit Paris again....but not through Show of the Month (Boston) and in this hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms suffer from chemical smells/ powder from renovations.

Our cousins stayed here on our recommendation and mentioned that the renovated floor (2nd floor where I stayed) was much better than the non renovated ones. There was a problem with moisture from the bathroom and mold in their room. So ask for a renovated room.

This hotel is located very close to Notre Dame. There are shops, pharmacies, restaurants, and a market within easy walking distance. The nearest metro entrance is not far off either. The hotel itself is quite nice, clean, and the rooms are inviting.

Overall, this was a great hotel. The staff was friendly every time we interacted with them. The room (we had a triple) was a good size based off of other rooms we have stayed at in Paris. Yes, I'm sure it could have been bigger, but we all had enough room once suitcases found a place to be stashed. But Paris hotel rooms are always small, so we were expecting it. The location of the hotel was nice. Close enough that you could easily find food or a five minute walk to St. Michael and Notre Dame, but enough out of those areas that you didn't have to worry about the noise of the neighborhood. The one downside of the hotel was how thin the walls were. We could hear the people in the neighboring room talking at a normal level. There was also some loud partying going on, but it did sound like the management put an end to it after about 30 minutes. Other than the thin walls, this was a great place to stay. Also, how can you not want to stay at a place with a giant hot pink rabbit that sits in the breakfast area.

The Moderne is one of hotels in Paris I always return to! The location is simply the best! The staff is always wonderful, and they continue to update and renovate the rooms. As always I get the breakfast which includes unlimited coffee. The selection of breads, cheese, cold cuts, yogurt, cereals for me is the perfect way to start the day! The room sizes are good size with free Wifi, and mini bar which I usually end up storing some of my purchases to bring home. The rooms are always clean. It is always so nice to return and see staff that have been there since I have been staying here over the many years. It is sort of like seeing family, which is always comforting! The location on Rue des Ècoles offers me easy access to anywhere I want to go in Paris whether it be by walking, Metro, or occasional taxi. The Moderne is my home away from home!

Room Tip: Higher floors offer better views. Rooms not facing Rue des Ècoles offer less street noise, but with...

My husband took a cab back to the Moderne St. Germain from the Gare du nord, after a day in London. The cabbie said that the Moderne is in the best part of Paris. We sure agree. We have stayed at the Moderne three times now. It is conveniently located to almost everything you would want to see in Paris. It is a short walk up the hill to the historic and lively Rue Mouffetard with its many cafes (you can drink where Hemingway did). You have the Pantheon, St. Germain, Notre Dam, the Cluny, and metro lines to get you every where. We always walk to the Musee D'orsay, winding our way down through the narrow ancient streets leading from St. Germain de Pres.
The rooms are small, as you would expect, for a reasonably priced hotel. This time our room over looked Rue des Ecoles, it had a large closet and was clean, with good bed. It was cold and damp, but the room was warm and had a welcome bath tub/shower. The toiletries from Yves Rocher were an unexpected elegant touch.
Breakfast is a very good selection of pastries and cheeses and more. This is one of the better breakfasts that we have had in Paris, if not all of France.
We have stayed in other parts of Paris, but have found that even in more expensive hotels our vacation was not as enjoyable as staying in the Vieme. Before staying at the Moderne we stayed at another hotel on Rue Des Ecoles, the Moderne is a much better choice over all.
Over look the small rooms, just go and enjoy everything that the area and Paris has to offer.
