“Great Paris location-fun and stylish”
Reviewed 27 July 2013

I enjoyed my time at the Moderne Saint Germain. The room was just the right size for one person with ample closet space, in room safe and an electric kettle for making coffee and tea (this was a nice surprise). The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was cozy. It was a really good use of space and I liked the towel warmer which came in handy for drying clothes. My room was super clean and had a balcony. The balcony had cigarette butts from previous guests and they were not cleaned up during my week long stay.

At check in, the staff was, not overly friendly. For example, they rarely smiled and did not say "welcome to the hotel" or "enjoy your stay" or "if there is anything you need..."
One host enjoyed smoking and drinking coffee in front of the hotel quite often. She was friendly after a couple of days. The breakfast was really delicious. Pastries, breads, meats, cheeses, cereal, coffee juice, yogurts, jams, fresh fruit. It was quite the spread. It would be nice if the breakfast ladies (who were fabulous) smiled.

At night it can get a bit noisy from other guests. I heard a couple of loud arguments and when doors slam shut, it rattled my door. There were also renovations going on, but that had minimal noise disruption.

Would I stay again? Yes. The location to the metro and Boulevard Saint-Germain can't be beat. You can easily get anywhere in Paris in a matter of minutes. The neighborhood is very safe and I never had any troubles walking back to the hotel after dinner at night.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Rue des Ecoles are nice. They have good soundproofing from the street noise.

For those looking for luxury, look elsewhere. Otherwise, this hotel is perfect for those seeking a clean, friendly, and convenient place to rest. Its a block from the Metro and within walking distance to the Pantheon, Luxembourg gardens, Notre Dame Cathedral, and many other attractions and restaurants. The rooms are not large, but who needs a large room when you're not spending all your time there? The A/C was cold, breakfast was good, and staff was friendly. When, not if I return to Paris I will make this my home for the time I am there.

The hotel is within walking distance of the major attractions. My room was very clean and the staff helpful. The washroom is tiny though and my car's backseat has more legroom than the toilet does! The only concern I had was that you have to leave your key at the front desk when you leave. However, when come back and ask for your room key, they didn't really verify that you're actually a guest there.

Room Tip: The Latin quarter can be quite rowdy at night, so a room in the upper floors might give you a bit mo...

I will say that the location was convenient, walking distance to the Latin Quarter, the Seine river, Notre Dame, The hotel itself was clean and the staff was pleasant until we had issues with the lock on our room door. We had the hardest time getting into and getting out of our room. We asked numerous times to have our room changed but they did not accommodate. .Hotel staff had to come up with us to unlock the door from the outside so we could enter, and in order to leave the room we had to call the front desk to ask them to come up and let us out. This was frightening because it is a fire hazzard,, After the first night , they did change our room probably because they get fed up with us.. Also the elevator only goes up to the 5th floor, so you need to carry your bags up one flight.
Maybe by now they have changed the lock,, so ask first before you take the key to room 66.

This hotel is small but has a great location. Only problem is that we had a room on top level, and the lock on the door kept getting jammed. We had to keep calling the front desk to help us in and out of the room. Stayed 2 nights, and the second night our room was changed.

Room Tip: Make sure you door lock works! and you can get in and out. The room we stayed in used a key, get a r...

This hotel has one of the best locations on the left bank in Paris...on rue des Ecoles, just a few blocks from the Seine and Notre Dame. The staff is most helpful in giving advice, directions and arranging for transportation (especially to the airport). A recent "modernization" at the hotel has given it a bit of panache and a more modern feel and the breakfast buffet is first class. Prices are moderate for such a prime location (160 euros a day in May for us). Rooms are big enough but are not spacious (otherwise, I'd give this hotel the highest rating). The Pantheon is two or three blocks away, up the hill and the metro is down the hill about a block and a half. We've stayed her three times and will make it four if we go back to Paris again. Oh, yes, the Italian restaurant across the street (Il Pescatore) is a great bargain.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking rue des Ecoles. The little bit of noise does not adversely effect a grea...

A small, well positioned hotel less than 10 minutes walk from Notre Dame and even closer to the Boulevard St. Michel and Boulevard St Germain. Result was that we spent less than £25 each on transport over our 4-day stay including getting to and from Gare du Nord. Room was quirky with big red kisses on the walls and 2 juliet balconies opening to a lovely view over the rooftops. Bathroom small but adequate and shower excellent. Breakfast was adequate with a kettle on the drinks table so that we could make tea with boiling water! Lots of affordable restaurants on the doorstep for an evening meal. Highlight was the reception staff; friendly, helpful and welcoming. Only possible drawback to note is that we stayed on the top (6th floor) and the lift only went as far as floor 5 - but we were offered help to carry our cases up the last spiral flight of stairs.

Would we stay there again - certainly. And we are already recommending it to others.

Room Tip: We had a recently renovated room. This is still being completed on lower floors. Please ask about...
