This hotel is just ok. We arrived late one evening and yet our room wasn't ready. However the staff were really apologetic and rushes to fix the issue. Unfortunately the only room they had was a smoking room. The smell was too much for us and we had to change rooms the next day but again the staff rose to the occasion.
Basically the staff saved the hotel.

But the location was great. Lots of food around. Quite residential but I did really enjoy being away from the tourist centre of Paris.

room and bathroom were bigger than we expected and above the 3 star average in Paris. Staf is polite and helpfull, most of your questions will be answered and you problems will be solved. Quiet enveronment (considdering you are staying next to the Crossroads of a main street in a big European capital and not in the countryside). Less than 150 meters from the Metro station of Vaneau. 15 minutes with the metro or a nice walk of less than an hour and almost all of the things to be seen in the center of Paris are within reach. If you do not pay the full price of 220 Euro for a room but take advantage of special offers that take the price down below 150 Euro a night for a double it's more than a good price. This will probably not be the last time we check in in this hotel.

Room Tip: do not take the rooms close to the elevator (the ones ending in 04) as you hear every movement of it...

Last fall we had to find a hotel which could accommodate my 86 year old Dad. We were very pleased with the rooms and service provided by Hotel Vaneau! Location was fantastic and we were so pleased with the local environment - little grocery right across the street, restaurants within walking distance (one which had been reviewed by New York Times!) and a superb cheese store right around the block. Not to mention easy access to museums, bakeries, and chocolate shops!

After reading other reviews of this hotel was a bit concerned about checking in and having to wait for a room. I did have to wait but only five minutes and the person on the desk was very sweet and helpfull offered me coffee. The room was clean with a larger than average bathroom for Paris
The bed and Pillow were very comfortable and towels were changed every day. the room had character with old windows and a fireplace. Opening the windows let in the noise of the street but the room was hot . we eventually turned off the heating and it was just right even though it was January. Breakfast is extra but there isn't too much to choose from in the area and for 14 euros you get a good choice . Three stops on the metro and a short walk across the river and you are in the centre of everything. A cable internet connection in the room but wifi only in the foyer so it might not suit the smart phone enthusiast. Friendly staff. We will definitely book again.

i spent 4 days in this hotel, and it is nice: rooms are ok, and its location is good (15 minutes on foot from the Eiffel Tower or 25 meters from Vaneau subway station).
the price of the room doesn't include the breakfast (in my experience) but its cost (14€) is cheaper then a bar (20€ more or less). the staff is nice, but you'd know some french.
the lobby is oper 24hrs (useful if you want enjoy the nightlife of Paris).

Having visited Paris many times (a family member lives there) I have not before stayed in Saint Germain. I would certainly do so again and this hotel is very convenient - there being a metro within a few metres and within easy walking distance of St Germain des pres, Musee D'orsay, the Louvre. It also has a good cafe next door and a Carrefour city (like tesco express) nearby.

We found the receptionist to be very welcoming and she explained that the 2 top floors were accessed by stairs only and asked whether this was a problem (it wasn't being in my 30's!) and so we were given a room on the top floor (6th). The room was large with a king size bed, desk, wardrobe, tv etc and there was plenty of space for our luggage (albeit we only had 2 cabin size suitcases). The bathroom was also fine and the shower was nice and hot. We didn't have any concerns about noise really and found that if the window was shut it was fairly insulated from road noise. I think the metro runs under the hotel as sometimes you could feel the rumble from below, however it wasn't noisy.

The room was clean and tidy and the bed comfortable - I slept well. My boyfriend also had to dial into a work related conference call on the day of departure and the receptionist very kindly allowed us to stay an extra 2 hours in the room for free so that he could do this in peace and quiet. Very good service!

Overall, I felt it was good value considering the prices you can pay and I would certainly stay here again in the future. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel so cannot comment.

Room Tip: I suspect the higher floors are better if you are concerned about noise.
