“Delicious, but Too Casual for its Price”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

I had a dinner with my wife. We were a bit surprised at the atmosphere in the restaurant because the restaurant was more casual and crowded (the distance between tables were shorter) than we had expected.
I ordered foie gras and beef steak, and both dishes were very delicious and large. Especially, I was impressed with the thickness and beautiful color of the cross section of the grilled steak.
Our waiter was friendly and helpful, however, since our table was near the place where staff members are gathering to take and return the menus, silvers and plates etc., it was noisy and we could not be relaxed at all even though the meals were nice. The atmosphere was like a pub, which was not in line with our expectations.
I am afraid that the total cost of 300 EUR for two of us was expensive to our satisfaction. Maybe, the cost would be fair if the number of tables is reduced by 1/3 and our table was away from the working area of staff.

Dear guest,

We thank you for commenting your recent experience at le 114 Faubourg. It is with great pleasure that we understood that you enjoyed the food very much, but we were disappointed that the ambiance of the restaurant was not very much of your liking.

As a brasserie, it is true that we do have a lively atmosphere, but it should never prevent you from enjoying your dinner with your loved one.

We can only regret that you did not enjoy your table placement, and hope that upon your next visit, we will ensure to place your booking in a calmer area.

Warm regards,

Kevin Chambenoit

“Very good restaurant”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

A well-decorated, less expensive restaurant at the top Hotel Bristol serving very good food. If you have a downstairs table, you'll have a view of the open kitchen. You can't miss the great staircase that joins the upper and lower levels. Reservations recommended. It has a star in the Michelin Guide and it's not for nothing.

We found your Trip Advisor review with great pleasure, and are delighted that you enjoyed so much the decoration and the buzz of the open kitchen, as much as the food served.

“Disappointed”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

My experience was similar to that titled Ho-hum below. We were also Bristol hotel guests and the hotel could not get us into Epicure. It was such a disappointment. As we arrived fairly late (about 9:30 p.m.) our first night, the hotel recommended 114 Faubourg in-house. All hotels do this but we were delighted to hear it had a Michelin star. The service was slow, the food was meh. Also, they would do nothing for our 13 year old son, who couldn't really find anything on the menu he liked. Admittedly he is a typical American kid eater. But they would not attempt an omelette or a grilled cheese, for example. I appreciate this may be cultural as well but we were traveling all day and he was exhausted and starving! We even had to wait for an answer as to whether they could serve him french fries only. When at last they condescended to do so, they charged us $16 for them. The adult food was decent but not Michelin star worthy IMO. As another reviewer so aptly wrote: uninspiring food and bare minimum service. Not worthy of the rest of the hotel, which was phenomenal.

Though we couldn't have dinner at Epicure, we did enjoy breakfast there daily. Delicious, elegant and impeccable service.

Dear guest,

We would like to thank you for your post on Trip Advisor website.

We are really sorry to learn that you did not enjoy your experience in our luxury brasserie Le 114 Faubourg.

As was answered on your other posting about Epicure and Hotel Le Bristol, we are very sorry that you found the service was unaccommodating for a 13 years old kid.

Your are right to say that we should have been able to accommodate simple menu changes and we only can hope that it was an isolated incident, rather than the norm.

We do thank you for your feedback, and hope that we will have the pleasure of proving you that le 114 Faubourg is worth of your trust.

Warm regards,

Kevin Chambenoit

“Excellent food and peerless service”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

I have had the pleasure of visiting Paris twice in the past two years and the only restaurant I visited both trips in this city renowned for its gastronomic delights was Le 114 Faubourg.

I had the pate en croute both times. The pate en croute is truly delightful and nearly brought tears to my eyes the first time I had it for dinner back in 2012. This is a remarkable effort considering this was during an extended trip that took me to New York, London, Amsterdam, and Paris, with many restaurant visits that included several Michelin-starred establishments. What struck me was the intensity and the variety of the flavours that play delightfully on the palate like a masterfully conducted orchestra. That pate en croute haunted my dreams for a few weeks, and has led me to plotting schemes of how to buy an entire pate (not just a slice) and bring it back across the oceans to savour at home.

However, the pate en croute paled in comparison to the quality of service I experienced on both my visits. While top quality service is a given in any Michelin-starred restaurant, I felt that Le 114 Faubourg's service was better than the top 3 starred restaurants -- including that of Epicure "just next door"!

One incident from two years ago is particularly memorable. Two elderly American couples entered the restaurant on a rainy evening, none of them guests of the adjoining Hotel Le Bristol. After being seated and having a few aperitifs, they realised that this was not the restaurant they were looking for. They had a word with the wonderful restaurant manager (Patrice I believe), apologised because they wanted to have the "full 3-star Paris experience" because this was to be a 70th birthday celebration in Paris.

Without flinching, the restaurant manager wished the gentleman a happy birthday and explained that he understood fully. Some telephone calls were made and the manager managed to get them a seat at the restaurant they wanted (a miracle given how quick this was), got a taxi arranged, had the doorman escort the party out, and did not charge anyone in the party a single Euro for the drinks "because of the error".

I have never seen so much affability, charm, professionalism and grace in a single restaurant manager. The wait staff also needs to be commended because they have all been faultless throughout both my visits there even in the light of some "difficult" customers.

Five stars -- this place deserves no less.

It is a pleasure to read your compliments following your several visits at Le 114 Faubourg restaurant, and to discover all the emotion you had in discovering one of our signature dish, le paté en croûte!

It is one of the greatest compliment we could wish for.

Patrice Jeann was very touched that you seemed to enjoy so much its grace, charm and professionalism, as it is the results of a great carreer in the industry.

Your compliments and recommandation are a real encouragement for the team to continue to delighte our guest the best they can.
