Some say, its claim to fame is that it is the lowest bridge spanning the Seine. Nuts to that, I say!!
Conceived as a revolutionary bridge using technology that leapfrogged English and American achievements,in that ,in one reach without any point of support in between. However, even revolutionary ideas develop cracks and settling , so a new bridge was built for the upcoming World Fair in 1855.
Using the piers of the former suspension bridge and adding a new central pier in masonry, its stack used as a pedestal for allegorical sculptures of "land victory & maritime victory",while the two other piers were decorated with military sculptures bearing imperial coat-of-arms and trophies carved in high relief.
Your choice of Metro is Champs-Elysee-Clemenceau , La-Tour-Maubourg or Alma-Marceau. Its a superb place to float under at night....and day,of-course.

Beautiful use of Gold on the statues at the nearby Pont Alexandre III make it very plain indeed, at least at road level. Some ornate work on each of the arch supports though. Work going on near the bridge at the moment does distract somewhat.

I cross this bridge every day, there isn't much I have to add, it's nice, it gives you a great view of Paris.

Granddaughters and I found the WWI & WWII floors very interesting and an excellent history lesson for our trip to Normandy the next day.

Check it out this bridge and take some photos. The best vantage point is actually from a boat as you cruise below it. Also try and do it at night where you will have the opportunity to see it all lit up and beautiful.
