“perfect sightseeing hub hotel”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

Close by some key St Germain sights as well as the metro, the Seine and within walking distance of the rest of the main sights of Paris, this was a perfect hotel for a touristy weekend in paris. The bedroom was very comfortable and well equipped and the breakfast buffet whilst a bit expensive was copious and very nicely presented. It was lovely to come back to after a a days pavement punding!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are probably quieter but don't have much of a view...

Very convieniently positioned to cater to all major tourist site. Either via metro, walk or boat along the river. Nice neibourhood with great boutique shopping and a diverse range of restaurants. The hotel was very comfortable, our room was a good size catering for 3 of us, it was located on the 1st floor facing the street and the noise was minimal. Room was clean and coffee/tea facilities available. Aziz and the team were very pleasent and helpful with restaurant recommendations and local knowledge. We had a great 5 night stay and would return.

Room Tip: Request a larger than standard room facing the street.

And will stay here again. Professional, friendly; Aziz and Blondine remembered us, visiting again with two grand-daughters. Restaurant recommendations were just right for us and reservations were made graciously and quickly. They helped us in any way we asked, or even hinted about. Clean comfortable rooms. Breakfast is complete and the dining area is maintained beautifully, again, by the same friendly young lady who was here two years ago. This small lovely hotel is discreet, hardly noticeable just driving by, but the location is unmatched! We always find it quiet; no noise from other rooms or hallways, and we love some street sounds. We were there on Bastille Day and had no trouble sleeping even with cafes busy. How lucky we were to find Au Manoir Saint Germain De Pres!

I try not to let my "North American sensibilities" creep into my review of a hotel, but we were a bit disappointed, and certainly the photos posted on the website were a bit misleading.

First, the nice parts: the hotel was clean and lovely enough-- super quiet, and the bed very comfortable-- but it was by no means outstanding. It's very old and in many ways, very pretty. The location: ideal. There is no doubt about that. My husband and I have both been to Paris several times before (separately) and agreed that there was no better option for neighbourhoods. We love St. Germain, and the hotel is perfectly situated: many, many coffee shops and cafes about, a grocery store just around the corner (body cream, champagne, toothpaste, t-shirts!), the underground almost across the street, and access to 2 of the bike stations within 2 blocks (this system is fantastic!).

However, for the room rate that we paid, there were some amenities that were missing, such as: drawer and cupboard space for our luggage; a concierge-- or, at least, multiple staff (as in, more than one) to assist with baggage, restaurant reservations and recommendations, etc.; maybe a working bar/bartender; and an option to buy some coffee (not only breakfast) in the morning.

The "staff" was friendly enough-- but only a single person works at a time! It was surprising to us not to have at least a second person to give some insights and ideas for dinner or museums, etc. We felt like we were staying in an apartment, not a hotel.

Second, we thought (based on the photos) there was a bar in the hotel. There is not. The lobby was always deserted in the evenings, and there is not the ambiance of a social public space that we enjoy when traveling. The atrium in photos is a bitty little alcove. We also did not partake of the breakfast (there are so many cafes within blocks of the hotel), and it was really expensive. The downside to this was that we couldn't get coffee in the morning. It was only with the breakfast. For a 4-star hotel, having coffee as an option (without food) would be a nice option. Having said this, there WERE coffee makers in the room, but we wanted a Parisian cafe au lait, or a standard fresh brewed. Difficult to come by.

Our room was nice enough (however, we were accidentally shown to the wrong, small, room at first, and I have to say, we were upset with the 1st room-- zero storage space, and just an odd and in-need-of-upgrading layout; I don't know how much less expensive it was, but my recollection from booking the hotel was that the other rooms weren't substantially less expensive). Our new room was elegant and pretty, but again, limited storage space: only one bureau, no drawers. This is typical of European hotels, but when you're traveling for a long time in Europe and you have 2 suitcases, you're doing a lot of stepping-over stuff.

Overall, the hotel was very clean (that's very important!), and the staff were friendly and pleasant, and I don't blame them for a less-than-stellar review. I would say that the owners and/or management should consider adding some extra staff and sprucing up the rooms to make one feel that they are in a "luxury hotel," not a small apartment.

Rooms are very nicely appointed, but our room was tiny even by Parisian standards. Otherwise,
staff is friendly, nice bathroom and toiletries, good housekeeping staff. Nice to have a kettle in the room with coffees and teas. Internet was free but a little cumbersome and sometimes slow.
We enjoyed our three night stay...the location is really great! Plus..the air conditioner works!

We have just enjoyed a wonderful few days in Paris, made perfect by this lovely hotel. It is on the busy Boulevard St Germain, very near to the metro. But don't be put off, the double glazing kept out all the busy street noise when required, although we were really happy to have the windows open to hear typical Parisienne street noise, people chatting in the nearby cafés and brasserie. There is a Monoprix round the corner for essentials such as fresh milk and wine, and we found the smaller cafés very reasonable for breakfast. We stayed in room 502 (there is a lift) which faces the street, has 2 windows, air conditioning and luxurious linens and decoration. The walls and drapes were rich red silk toile and oatmeal fabrics. We asked for a street facing room as we have stayed in other hotels in Paris facing courtyards, and they are stifling hot in summer so we avoid these now. Room 502 has a very large king sized bed, fridge and kettle with ample tea and coffee supplies and lovely toiletries. The staff are courteous and efficient and the room was spotless. Free wifi and a computer for guests use. Public areas are beautifully appointed. Breakfast was an extra 15 euros and we ate out, on our way to museums etc, but Cafe de Flore and Les Deux Magots across the street are more expensive. We had an evening dinner at the Brasserie Lipp, next door to the hotel. We would stay at Au Manoir again in an instant. Booked through TripAdviser and got a great rate.

On a recent vacation with my husband, we stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Check-in was speedy and the rooms were large enough for the two of us. Bathroom was small, but it was clean and had contemporary fixtures and design. We especially loved the rain shower. The elevator was interesting and tiny, but that's what you expect in Paris. We loved having a room with windows facing Saint Germain Blvd. and would often open the windows to hear the chatter of people, clinking of glass, and street musicians playing down at street level. There are a ton of shops and cafes around and the location of the hotel, and being in the center of Paris made it walkable to many of the sites. The entire staff was welcoming and friendly. We'd definitely stay here again!
