“Hotel refused refund”
Reviewed 11 April 2006

I booked 2 rooms for 2 nights using Holiday Inn's online reservations. However, due to the riots in Paris, my airline flight was canceled and we were not able to get to Paris. Because my Holiday Inn reservations were pre-paid with the 14 day advance rate, the hotel would not give me a refund. The major problem was trying to get in touch with them. They would not return my emails. Central reservations advised that they could not help me and that I must deal with the hotel directly. Every time I called the hotel, they would put me on hold for a long time and then disconnect me. While I realize that a pre-paid room normally would be non-refundable, you would think that when the city is in a state of emergency status and they are burning, protesting, rioting, and closing all tourist spots (i.e. the Eiffel Tower), that the hotel would offer a refund. I booked with an American chain, hoping that they could help me in the unlikely event I had a problem. Unfortunately, the unlikely event became a reality, and the "American Company" became no help what so ever. They passed the buck to the French side, which did not even bother with a response. This was a $450.00 learning lesson. Will not be booking with Holiday Inn again.

Just got back from Paris-London a week ago.On the plus side, the hotel's location is superb. Steps from the metro, and some shops and cafes around. Thank god we just missed the student demonstrations that was going on. There was a concert going on over the weekend and the circle was closed and the music was pretty loud. But since we were not in the hotel, it was not an issue. They are a few numbers of riff-raffs around the circle, so keep your eyes open esp at night.
Now comes the room. We were not offered an upgrade and even when we asked for one, one was not available unless we pay an additional 30 euro. We got one of the basic king rooms facing the circle. The room was pretty small and with the slanted ceiling, it felt a bit claustrophobic. The condition of the room was fair and it does not look like the ones on the hotel site. A lot smaller and not renovated. Bathroom was pretty clean. We also stayed at the Holiday Inn-Opera a year ago, and this one is better. So overall, good location, but average room.
Last word of caution, do not take the Blue-Van (bluevan.fr) from/to the airport. Their service was horrible. They were late at getting us to the airport and caused us to missed our flight back to the States:< DO NOT USE THEM !!!!

This is a very nice hotel, well mantained and perfectly located near restaurants, shops and banks, though far from main Paris attractions but the metro station is just outside the hotel and that is not problem.

Breakfast is very expensive in the hotel, try restaurants outside, and the crepes just in front of the hotel!!!!!

My daughter and I just returned from a week's stay in Paris. We stayed at the Republique. I'm listing positives and negatives below. Above all, the greatest benefits for me were that the bed was extremely comfortable, rooms clean, renovated large bathrooms and that the Metro was within steps from the hotel. The Republique Metro stop is 3 stops from a major Metro hub where you can connect to go to all sides of Paris. Also, Pont Neuf is less than 10 minutes from the Republique stop. That's a great place to begin your walk along the Seine.

Here's a quick run down of our experience:

- Decent commute to/from the airport
- Decent breakfast (only meals we ate there) and
children eat for free
- Room was larger than expected, nice bathroom
- Friendly and attentive staff
- Metro was within steps
- Many cafe's and other shops and places to eat very close
- Festival in the square outside building on Sundays

- Can be a little loud. I think the bar has live entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings fron 10pm - 1am sharp. If you get to bed early and are a light sleeper you may not like it.

- Room service is expensive

The location (Metro accessibility) was so phenominal, I would stay at this hotel for that reason alone. It was incredibly comforting to be able to travel all over Paris - 10 hour+ long days and basicially end up at your hotel door at the end of the day. I'd recommend.

This is a way-above-par member of the holiday inn chain. Situated right on the place de republique and about 20 metres from the metro entrance, it is in a beautiful old building with courtyard. The lobby is nice, always spotless and there is a pleasant bar / coffee shop. Our room (no view unfortunately), was larger than expected with sofa, large minibar, huge bathroom and very comfy bed. Always clean, staff pleasant and helpful.
Location is excellent, easy to walk to Bastille, Opera, islands and louvre, but metro very very close too. Also, the open top bus tour stops just round the corner.
A final note. Our first day in the hotel saw rioting in the place de republique. The hotel staff were superb, keeping us very well informed and putting our safety at the foremost. Highly recommended, and certainly did not break the bank!

We stayed at the hotel for 3 days, Feb 24-27 2006.

The hotel is located on the Republique square, right next to the Metro station. Most of the tourist destinations are 10-15 mins away by Metro, Eiffel tower takes a bit longer. There are a fair number of restaurants and cafes around the square, including French, Italian, Chinese and a Mexican/American restaurant called Indiana!! The area also feels quite safe at night.

Check-in was a breeze, we also got a free upgrade to a superior room without asking. The service at the hotel was excellent and all our requests were fulfilled promptly.

My wife ordered tea from room service. We were given Earl Grey and Darjeeling tea bags. My wife prefers English Breakfast so she requested those tea bags. A set of 4 tea bags were delivered within minutes, nicely presented on a small plate. The next morning, we again ordered tea from room service (but we didn't make a special request for English breakfast tea bags as we had a few leftover from the previous day). The tea was delivered with 2 tea bags, both English Breakfast!!

We requested a shower cap and a set of pillows from the Holiday Inn pillow menu on two separate occasions. In both cases, the items were delivered within 3-4 minutes.

The room and bathroom were very clean, the furniture was also in good condition. The room was very spacious by European standards (though we had a superior room). A great experience overall. We would definitely go back to the hotel.

The price was reasonable for Paris. We booked directly through the Holiday Inn website and got the 3 days advanced purchase rate of EUR 150 including tax and service charge.

We spent 5 days at this hotel with the 114 euros-a-night prepaid cost (booked on the ichotels website.) It was a bargain! We got the twin beds we requested, a basic room with the tall French windows looking on to a Paris street with the luxury of a nice shower and tub, great TV, large desk and comfortable beds.

The location is fantastic. Lately, the 11th is the hip neighborhood (among many others) - when we strolled the nearby streets, we found a small theater with a performance by Lenny Escudero but could not get in because he was sold out (back in April, though.) The whole place had the feeling of a real neighborhood, with a great mix of cheap stuff and a nice Monoprix department store around the corner. Cafes, fast food, and my favorite budget restaurant - Leon de Bruxelles right across the street. You have to like mussels to really LOVE Leon but they have other things on the menu. I'm a mussels lover but the bottomless plate of french fries would be a treat for teenagers or kids.

We walked to Notre Dame and Centre Pompidou. There are metro lines galore directly in front of the hotel. I absolutely love the location. There's a small park and carousel in the midst of all the metro chaos - people entering and exiting and lots going on.

The room was quiet or maybe I'm just a deep sleeper. My traveling companion said the next room made some noise but I never heard it.

There's a large, beautiful courtyard in the middle of the building and you enjoy the view every time you walk to the elevators.

We used the business center computers for 5 euros an hour. Very comfortable and reasonable and allowed us to manage e-mail.

The bar in the hotel is nice and very busy. We did not try the restaurant - there were excellent Parisian restaurants nearby (Astier and Au C'Amelot) that we just had to try.
