“Great location and value for money”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

I spent one night at the Hotel Daunou Opera with two children. I got a great deal by booking directly with them on their website - they had a flash sale on and so I got a suite at an excellent rate. The suite was of course a 3* hotel suite and consisted of one double room with another smaller room with a single bed just off it. The entrance to the bathroom was from the single room. All in all I was very happy - the room was large - by Parisien standards, nicely decorated with a nice sized bathroom with a bath. The staff were really lovely and helpful. The location was just perfect - Opera Garnier is a stone's throw and Place vendome is a 2 minute walk away. Place la Concorde, the Louvre and Jardins des Tuileries are all walking distance. The only downside - and I believe other reviewers have mentioned this - there are a few bars in the street - and so around 4 in the morning there was a bit of noise on the street - of course this is not the hotels fault. My kids slept through it all but if you're sensitive to noise, ask for a room which does not overlook the street or bring along some earplugs! It's a three start hotel - if you want triple glazing and no noise, I recommend the Marriott on The Champy-Elyséés at about 5 times the price! Greta value for money and I would not hesitate to return in the future!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not overlook the street.

The best thing about the hotel is it's location. It is around the corner of the Opera and very conveniently located to reach a few other touristic destinations in a few minutes by foot.

The rooms are very dated and could need a general renovation.
Carpets are old and towels are not very clean anymore although they seem to be properly washed and "fresh". Cleaning of the room is done everyday but not very properly.

Nevertheless, for a small Hotel in the center of Paris the rooms were ok in size.

There is not a real lobby, as the reception area is located in a tiny entrance that leads to the staircase and elevator. This is though no issue, as there is enough space to do all formalities for check-in and -out.

The elevator is extremely slow and if you are staying on a low floor I recommend taking the stairs as it might be much faster unless you have your luggage to carry.

What I did not like at all:
We arrived at the hotel after having booked a 4-bed-duplex-room only to be given a triple "suite" room. The reason was that somehow they thought we were only three people. After discussion we were allocated the room we had booked and the staff was quite friendly and helpful although they had to call at least two more people to get it done.

Also what I did not like was that there is a coffee machine in the room with capsules for the first day to brew your coffee. If you stay more than one night, you have to buy additional capsules at 1 EUR a piece!
At EUR 310 per night at this Hotel, I think at least the coffee should be included (even in high season).

Thirdly, our bathroom had no shower curtain and no real curtain at the window. If you take a shower during evening time, people from the offices next door have a full view (yes, they were working in the evening) and water splashes all over the bathroom!

Lastly, I think that for the price paid it was not what we expected.
Having been to Paris for many times, I know Hotels are not cheap but overall I think this hotel is overpriced.
I also had the chance to see a regular double room and I thought the prices here are rather high for what you get.

Dear Guest,
The new team is very sorry to see that you had a bad experience at the Hotel DAUNOU Opera.
A new team is managing the Hotel. We also did a lot of renovation.
An all new consideration of service and quality is animating the Daunou.

Near to everything touristic, close the the Opera, of course, convenient to the Metro, very practical. Just remember you are not in the countryside side inn in Tennessee, you're in the center of Paris, and just finding a room is good. A room in the Hotel Daunou Opera is a great find! Remember to book as far ahead as possible to assure availability.

Room Tip: Remember to book early.

This is a very simple, clean straight forward hotel. The rooms are small but adequate. Ours was very clean with an adequate shower en suite.
We didn't' t use the breakfast as at €18 per head you can get cheaper in the local cafe's.
The staff were friendly and helpful, they have locked room for luggage if you are not leaving the city until after check out and are happy to organise taxi's etc.
The location is great, we felt safe at night and were able to walk to all the sights we had gone for, Eiffel tower, Notre dam, Louvre . However beware! Stick to smaller cafe's off the main drags, we got caught out and ended up paying €24 for two 50cl beers!

Room Tip: The road is quite busy at night we had a room towards the back of the hotel over a quadrant noise c...

The location was right in the heart of the old opera district, just around the corner from the opera house. The hotel was impeccable and clean. The staff was very friendly and spoke English well. The rooms were the small size to be expected of a hotel in a large city. The beds were the most comfortable we had slept in on our trip to France. I would highly recommend this hotel for location, cleanliness, and comfort. Even the elevator was a comfortable size compared to the small ones at most of the boutique hotels in Paris.

Room Tip: A courtyard room is very quiet even if you open your windows. The elevator is a decent size so no pr...

Great location, nice simple rooms, clean and helpful staff. Not luxurious but comfortable. Good restaurants and cafes around. Near the Opera and Roissybus station, very convenient. Bad breakfast, don't buy it it's awful, there's a very good cafe around the corner with nice food but not cheap either.

I stayed here right off Rue de la Madeleine and Rue de la Paix, very pricey areas. So it is about 1/5 the cost of staying at the Park Hyatt just 1 block away. There is no lobby to speak of. But rooms are ok size, beds are good, as are bathrooms. Good choices on TV. Breakfast is 18 euros but quite excellent. If you have a front room, you will not get much sleep however, as Harrys Bar, a club called DSK I think and another bar disguised as a vegan placed called like Earths Kitchen are literally across the street. People are out drinking I swear until past 4am. But on the positive, there are 2 ok Japanese places on this block, and it is very central. For the price, it is quite good. Not as "elegant" as the Hotel Mansart up the block, but also about 20-25% less also now. I would return here, but not get a front room...despite the view. Oh and wifi is free but horrendously slow! I tested on speedtest.net ant it clocked in at about .40 mbs, which is barely wifi. I would have rather paid $ for wifi and had it faster. That was my biggest pain.

Room Tip: Front rooms have a good view but are noisy as all heck...
