“Chaming quarter”

A charming little corner of Paris to visit after you visit Notre Dame. Make sure to have the salted caramel ice cream at Berthillon. Pick up your Paris souvenirs here, you'll find loads of little shops with some great little items.

“Best Place Ever - When I Was a Travel Virgin”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

loved this island when I was a 20-something. Now, ugh, tourist central. Cute to sit along the Seine. That's it. Have fun kids. Not gonna lie, would still have a glass of wine here, but... yeah. No.

3 stars for nostalgia. Maybe 4. Skip the food and ice cream lines and any croissants.

“One of the best places to start a long walk from”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

The Ile Saint-Louis is somewhat like a small town. Start your walk from the north side and decide if you'd like to end at the Berthillon ice cream stand on the bridge (Pont Marie) or start there.....of course you can start anywhere you wish, but I'm going to have you swing by the best sandwich shop and some of the best ice cream in Paris.
Walk across the bridge and look down to the beautiful view of the back of Notre Dame. It's a view not much seen in photos. If you've started early, there isn't much traffic or people. You're walking south, across the island and will come to the Boulevard Saint Germain. Turn Right. This was once the literary and scholarly area of Paris, and the Sorbonne is not far away.
This is a tree shaded area of many shops and interests and is one of my favorite streets in Paris. Continue on and if it is Tuesday or Sunday, a large and lively marché will be across the street. Cross VERY carefully, with the light. This is one of the busiest streets in Paris. Going down to Rue St. Michel and turn right. There are many other attractions in this area such as the church of Saint Germain des Pres and the literary cafes dating from the 1920's, and the Cluny Museum of the Middle Ages, but those are for other walks. Continue (right) on Saint Michel and cross the Ile de la Cite (here you can walk over to Notre Dame or Sainte Chapell) or go on for a quick trip
around Le Marais. (the old Jewish area of Paris) The Holocaust Museum is very close also. If you're hungry I recommend La Falafel (34 Rue des Rosier....see my review) A leisurely days walk if you do it right !

“A touch of old Paris.”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

A wonderful place to wander around. Stop for lunch, or an Ice cream on a warm day. It is a lovely spot to while away some time. Sit at Berthillions for a great view of the back of Notre Dame and indulge in one of their delicious ices. They are justly famous.
