“Great hotel”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

Very friendly and helpful staff. Our room at the very top with its balcony looking over the rooves of St Germaine was very special. Good size room (with annex including fold out sofa and separate TV). Coffee machine, mini bar. Wall mounted good size TV to watch the football. Modern bathroom with great shower. Perfect location.
We will stay here again.

This hotel was recommended by neighbors who had stayed there. It's a good value for Paris.
The room was clean, the service excellent and the croissants were perfect. We found the location, a quiet, charming neighborhood in St. Germain, to be just what we wanted and was within walking distance to busier sections of Paris.

This is a very reasonably priced (for Paris) small hotel in Paris. The lobby and breakfast room are a bit basic but the room was very comfortable and the bathroom had a great shower. But the real reason to say here is Olivier, the front desk clerk, who was amazing. He let us use his cell phone when ours ran out of minutes and we needed to call the airline before the service desk closed for the evening; he made several calls for us to EuropeCar when we couldn’t sort out our GPS issue because I don’t speak French; and he was gracious about our on again/off again extra night reservation. He is the gold standard for customer service. Merci Olivier!!

While not cheap, this hotel is great value in Parisian terms. St Germain has loads of character without being in the very busy heart of tourist Paris, and access to the Metro and by foot to many of my must-do destinations made it a very useful location, especially for just a four day stay. In the past I have stayed in apartments where I had a longer time in Paris, and would still do so for the cost savings, but if you can afford to be spoilt or have less time I would highly recommend this hotel. Relatively roomy, clean, quiet and comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for quiet room!

This is rated a three star hotel, but for the cleanliness, location, and kind help from the staff, who all speak English, it should be rated a four star hotel. The staff will speak French if you prefer.

Stayed for two nights while in Paris for business. Hard to pinpoint the character of this place: not exactly quaint, but certainly not generic. From reading earlier reviews, it seems like it was a little bit rundown a couple of years ago and then underwent renovation. Room was downright huge by Paris standards. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom small but modern. Everything very clean. Front desk staff was friendly. There was a lot of street noise during the day but quiet enough at night (Rue de l'Université is not busy at night). The location couldn't be better, right in the center of Paris, 5 minute walk to the Metro. The bakery a couple of blocks away (where Rue de l'Université becomes Rue Jacob) has some of the best croissants I've eaten in Paris (and I've eaten a lot of croissants in Paris).

We had a great time at this hotel. It is a quaint little hotel located near the center of Paris, a 10 minute walk to the Louver and about 15 minutes from Notre Dame. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was very polite and extremely helpful.

The Hotel de l’Université is a former Benedictine convent and has retained many period features while adapting to the needs of 21st century society. The reception area is vast and delightful with its ancient beams. It is an immediate illustration of the style and appeal of this quality establishment. The Hotel de l’Université only has 27 bedrooms, allowing the staff to focus on an individualized care. Each room has its own decor and character, many ornate with ageless beams, but all benefiting from tall traditional Parisian windows allowing daylight to flood in. All the rooms have been renovated in 2011 and include air-conditioning, mini-bar, safety deposit box and a free Wi-Fi connection. A laundry service is available upon request. The rooms on the top floor overlook the rooftops of Paris and some have the rare bonus of a private terrace. The Hotel de l’Université is not a place to stay for the night. It is a journey into the history and style of Parisian life, a chance to experience life as one of the locals and bring back unforgettable memories. ... more   less
