“If you are a creature of comfort it would be best to avoid”
Reviewed 9 November 2013

Located in a rundown part of town but has a nice park near by.
We stayed in a suite that resembled a rabbit hatch and was not very tidy nor clean.
Staff seems be very reluctant to provide service and the atmosphere is not pleasant.
over night parking costs EUR 25 when the car park opposite the road charges less than half.
Speed of service in the bar and restaurant: you'd be better to order a takeaway from Geneva on a motorcycle, it will arrive quicker (and probably warmer).
I have stayed with at least 20 different hotels in Paris over the years and this one is definitely the worse experience I have had.
I would grade the premises 6/10 and the staff helpfulness 3/10
Would I return? not even if wild dogs dragged me back.

Room Tip: Rooms in any other hotels are likely to be accompanied by more helpful staff

The hotel is located near the park and metro so it's very easy to travel to anywhere in Paris from there. There are some good Lebanese restaurants in the area. The hotel itself urgently needs to renovate. Our room was very worn out and we paid quite a lot for a suite.
The breakfast was a disaster and grossly overpriced.
We would not stay there again, for the price we paid we could have gotten a much better value somewhere else.

I was nervous about this hotel as I had seen some negative reviews, however I was pleasantly surprised. We stayed in a Privilege Family room, which was very big with two double beds and a great view. The staff were very friendly and the room was clean. The hotel is located right next to the metro, which made it very convenient. I would stay here again and recommend it to my friends.

I stayed at this hotel at the end of June for two nights. They had free Wi-Fi service which was uncommon throughout my European trip. I had a small twin share room with a humble bathroom. To be honest, the room was so small that I couldn't find a convenient spot to place my luggage so that it wouldn't be in the way of my roommate. I ended up putting my suitcase right next to my bed and had to climb over it in order to get out of bed in the morning. What an inconvenience!

We were told by our tour guide that this hotel was situated next to a bad area. We were also advised to walk in groups and keep our wallets out of sight when in the street.

One good thing about this hotel is their restaurant. The food I had was good. I especially like the way they serve the soup in a container with a cover which kept it hot for a longer time. I personally don't like warm or cold soup.

Dear Guest,

We would like to thank you for your comments. Regarding security point, the area is not worst or better than another place in Paris. That is right that Paris is a huge city, thus wherever you are, you have to take care of your bag and so on. Also, for the safety of our guests, we have a security guard at the hotel who is present to assist our guests in their requests.
We stay at your disposal for further information and we really hope to get the opportunity to welcome you back soon at the Mercure Paris La Villette.

DO NOT take any notice of the negative reviews. What do people expect? A butler to help them get out of the bath? COME ON PEOPLE! The hotel was beautiful! Staff amazing and very friendly! Vincent- well what can I say. Fantastic customer service. I emailed ahead as i was petrified that my break away with my mum (I had booked this as a birthday break for her) would be ruined by this so called 'horrific hotel' He assured me all would be ok and asked me all types of questions such as 'would you like to be on a high or low floor? Quiet area? Double or single beds?' Just so attentive!

The area is brilliant, just opposite theatres and music halls with plenty of lovely restaurants. The metro is easy to use and is around 20 minutes (change once) to Trocadero (Eiffel tower)

To sum up this review, I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone who will listen, and I will definitely go back. I work on a British holiday park myself so I know how damaging trip advisor reviews can be, and I am so thankful that Vincent made me feel comfortable enough to stick with that hotel. Needless to say me and my mum had a fabulous time!

SEE YOU AGAIN SOON MERCURE PARIS LA VILLETTE!!! Thanks again! xx

The check in was efficient and quick. I got a refurbished room which was nice and clean. The breakfast was included in my room rate and it was a standard hotel buffet style. I liked the fact that they had several magazines and newpapers for free in the reception area.
