“Very nice, not so friendly, overpriced”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 October 2009

We did enjoy our stay at this hotel. The location is perfectly located in an area that is very nice, and the city felt very accessible from there. The staff lived up to a disappointing stereotype: curt and not very helpful.
The hotel itself is very nice and our room was luxurious. However, as nice as it was, after staying at several other very nice hotels in Paris, we felt that it was overpriced. I believe that you could pay the same price or less for a larger room in an area just as good at a hotel of comparable quality.
Our favorite feature of this hotel, though, was the pool and spa. After two weeks in France in July, we were very happy to spend an evening relaxing in steam saunas and in the pool. There seem to be few other hotels in the area with such accommodations.
A great place, but you can probably get more for the money elsewhere.

This hotel was super-close to the Louvre and its gardens, and close to a great little square with non-touristy cafe's for lunch and dinner. Service was excellent - as our room wasn't ready when we checked in at 7 AM, they let us into the spa to take showers and freshen up. Great restaurant recommendation from someone at reception, as well. And breakfast in the hotel restaurant was yummy. . good selection, good coffee. . .made for a good start to the day. Highly recommended!

Finally got around to writing this review...after an avid follower of reading reviews...this is the first for me to write.
This hotel is perfect. we had a street view room, and when you opened the window, you saw a perfect parisian street...with the curved roof tops and all. it was just perfect (for us). Since it was wintertime, the best part was to come home after a long day's walk and to relax in the sauna or hammam and relieve all the stress...and be ready for the next day.
Full size bvlgari amenities was a plus...love them. They gave us a book on kissing in paris, plus a box of sweets during our stay. Not too far from the metro (aka major attractions) and it really felt like a home...perfect in all the ways. The staff was super attentive and accomodating.

Perfect location! Sometimes helpful staff. Actually used the swimming pool and it was lovely! Very clean and nicely furnished.

However, we were supposed to have a superior room and had a cell that was almost hard to turn around in -- and we are not large people. When we asked the front desk they said it was a superior room because of its size! All you had to do was look at the floor plan on the back of the door to see that this was not reality. Let's not treat guests like they are naive!

I would recommend the hotel as long as folks understand that these are really small rooms.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel at the end of August for 5 nights. As mentioned in other reviews, this hotel is in an amazing location in the 1st, right by the Vendome, Louvre, Tulieres gardens. The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and accomodating. We came to Paris primarily to enjoy amazing food ,and had a pretty big list of restaurants we wanted to try. They helped us plan out our entire 6 days and make and adjust restaurant reservations accordingly.

Our flight arrived from the US in the early morning, and we were allowed to check-in before noon. The staff even gave us a complimentary "double upgrade" on our room. The rooms are very clean, nice and well appointed. Even with our upgrade however, we found the room to be very small, even when compared to other hotels in France or similar size/category hotels in New York City. While the bed felt comfortable to sleep in, I woke up extremely sore every morning and it took hours to feel normal again. This was probably the biggest downside of the room.

Like many other reviewers, we stayed at this hotel using Marriott points. Had I not had points, I definitely don't think the room was worth close to $900/night for the category room we ended up having. There are far better deals at boutique hotels in the same neighborhood.

We stayed at the Renaissance Vendome for my major birthday (don't ask which). The location is central--close to the Louvre, the Metro, Les Tuilleries, Musee D'Orsay, Place Vendome. But what really distinguished this hotel was the concierges. They were extremely good at helping us set up our days. And they were way more helpful than American Express when my daughter's wallet was pickpocketed at a very fancy bakery at Place de la Concorde. They also helped a friend back home get a special gift to me in my room on the date of my birthday. Rooms were not large, but were elegant. It is located on a quiet side street. I would choose this hotel again.

The Renaissance Paris Vendome is a beautiful hotel. The lobby/dining areas and guest rooms are very nice, clean and comfortable. (One suggestion about room selection - I wouldn't recommend an interior room with a courtyard balcony. It looked nice but was so loud from the AC unit that we couldn't keep the windows open. A street view would have been better, even though I believe they consider the interior rooms to be superior.) The hotel is also in a great, convienient location. Why only three stars if it was so nice? There are a few reasons...

Our problems started at check-in. We were told that it would be an additional 70 euros/ night for the king bed/prestige room we requested. We had not requested this upgrade (I had the paperwork to proove it). The woman at the desk, although she didn't seem to actually believe us that we hadn't requested this, told us she would get us a standard room, but that it wasn't ready yet. This was not a problem, as they held our luggage for us while we went to lunch. When we returned, just after check-in time, our room was still not ready. The same woman at the desk offered us complimentary drinks in the bar to compensate for the delay. This was a nice gesture and kept us satsfied for a little while... but once it was 90 minutes past the hotel check-in time we were becoming impatient. We got our room key just under two hours after check-in time.

Our biggest complaint with the hotel was that it is out-of-this-world expensive! Luckily we had Marriott points to book our stay. If we had to pay the regular room rates to stay at this hotel (which we never would) we would be broke. Although it's a nice hotel with lovely rooms, in my opinion it is extremely over-priced, even for Paris... Be prepared to pay a fortune in the lobby bar for a beer/wine/soda/coffee, you name it. The hotel bar was more expensive than any other cafe we came across in the enitre city. Also, the American-Style buffet breakfast was 29 euros/person for bread, fruit, yogurt, cereal, coffee, juice, and cold eggs. We found this to be typical in most hotels in the city (20+ euros/person for a substandard breakfast buffet), but was not worth the money.

This hotel is geared 100% towards Americans, or at least it felt like it. Although eveyone spoke English, which was great, it almost didn't even feel like we were in Paris! We went to breakfast one morning and were greeted, "Good morning! Two for breakfast?" Since we were on vacation in Paris this was a bit of a disappointment for us, as we didn't want to feel like we were home in the U.S.!

Lastly, upon check-out the 70 euro/night charge for our prestige room appeared on our bill. I can't say that I was surprised, but as you can imagine, was not pleased. We told the woman at the desk that we did not request an upgrade when booking, declined the upgrade/charges at check-in, and would not pay for the charges on the bill. She was annoyed, threw her hands in the air and told us, with an attitude, that she guessed we didn't have any charges. We left on that note. I will say that most of the front desk staff, including the concierge and doormen, were very nice and accomodating.

As for the actual hotel - quality of rooms and good location - it really is very nice. However, we would absolutely not return or recommend this hotel due to the ridiculous price and hidden charges, mediocre service (not from all), and American atmosphere.
