Having read the real mixture of reviews I had some concerns about the stay. These disappeared upon checking in. The reception staff generally were quietly professionally, giving useful advice when required in a pleasant, friendly and unobtrusive manner.
We were upgraded to a superiro room which was more than beig enough with a good sized bathroom.
The room overlooked the trainline but we did not find this overly obtrusive. There were roadworks directly outside of nteh hotel which seemd to start each night of our stay in the early hours for most of the night. This is not something however that the hotel could be faulted for.
The rooms were a lovevly shabby sheek (less of the shabby) style. Nicely represented on teh photos.
Bathroom nice and clean with very generously sized towels.
Room cleaning was totally unobtrusive - there did not appear to be a set time, rooms seemed to be cleaned as you left for siteseeing (leaving the key as reception.
We did not access the breakfast facilities sio cannot comment.
Location - good for accessing the main sites as close to Rue du Rome Metro station. We purchased a two day travel pass - for metro, busses and trains - unlimited use - a great way to fet around.
We didn't see much of the area local area until our last day - as we wanted to see the main sites. Do be sure to access teh area behind the hotel - lots of shops, restaurants and cafes.
Some homeless people on teh road at night up the road form the hotel but they posed no threat at all.
Absolutely no issue for us with theft - which I had read a lot of reviews about on here - we made use of the in room safe and the staff kept our laptop in their office behind reception until we required at our request.
Would we stay here again - defintely without question. The only reason I have marked down from excellent was because of the roadworks - which affected sleep on the first night - but as I say not the hotels fault.
Overall a great value place for easy access to the main sites:)

We stayed here for three evenings. We found it to be charming and we found the staff to be helpful. The rooms were small, but clean. We didn't have a problem with theft, but we did use the in-room safe every time we left the room. Enjoyed breakfast.

We found a great deal on an online site for this property however would not pay their full rack rate. Rooms are quite small and dated. (But a great French feel and vibe) reception staff were not overly welcoming or helpful but if you are looking for an average hotel in a good location it is fine. There are many restaurants around as well as a train station across the road (pont cardinet). It is in walking distance from main station st Lazare (15min) breakfast is quite expensive (€14.50pp) and is very plain and simple. Shower is terrible! It struggles to meet the 4 star rating (no tea and coffee, plastic disposable cups) however the rooms are nice and clean. Overall we would not stay here again as we were quite disappointed with service and attitude.

We stayed last week and had a great stay. Good room if a little small, clean and tidy. Very small lift to get to top floor but had a good sized bath/shower, hot water and free toiletries. Staff friendly and great breakfast (cooked, pastries, cereals etc) ... And good coffee!! Would go back

Having read one or two reviews that were less than glowing about this hotel I was a little worried about our stay. However we loved the place. The decor yes dated but very French which added to the character, The room we had was 601 it was decorated with fabric on the walls hence the dated appearance but it was lovely my wife loved it. The bathroom was a reasonable size all in all the room was great. The view from the balcony was basicaly a train line I worried at first about noise but to be honest it never bothered us I think the trains stopped running about midnight. If you are a light sleeper it might be a concern, I found a nice bottle of French wine with diner worked the best.
The staff on the front desk were all very helpful and cheerful. The room was clean and was kept clean every day we left a daily tip of 3 euros which might have helped. I did not use the safe which I locked on the first day and could not open after that, I had not followed the instructions quite right.
We had pre-paid for breakfast as part of a package otherwise it would have been 15 euros each. The breakfast was exactly what you would expect a selection of meats cereals yoghurts and fruit, there was scrambled eggs and cooked ham on offer as well and plenty of French bread and other pastries.
The hotel location is great an eight minute bus ride on the number 31 bus gets you to the Arc de Triomphe where we bought a two day pass fro the city tour bus (red bus). I wish now we had used the paris tour bus (yellow bus) as this has more stops. The city tour has very limited stops so you can not always get off close to the attraction you want. We did walk all the way down the Champs-Elysees one day and went as far as the Gardens des Tuileries which are at the entrance to the Louvre. If you turn right out of the hotel within a short walk is the number 53 bus stop this goes to the Opera which is great for the center of Paris. Bus fare is 2 Euros per person we decided that we did not need a week ticket as we used the tour bus for two days.
I would say that this is not a four star hotel but I think that the star rating system in France is under review at the moment. Don,t expect too much from this hotel and you will have a great stay.
We found a great little cafe just opposite the hotel called Cafe-De-La-Gare it has a happy hour from 6 to 9 every day and the food is basic but afordable and good.

Room Tip: We liked 601 it is a nice size only down side is it looks over a train line.
