Ibis Paris Opera la Fayette

Reviewed 9 May 2014

The ibis Lafayette is located very close to 2 metro stations, it's location enables you to travel to and fro to easily to most popular sights in Paris. Rooms were definitely larger than most ibis I have stayed in. Larger and very clean bathrooms. Has a supermarket and karrefour express very close. Also walking distance to sacre coure. Very close to mc Donald's for a cheap and quick breakfast. Breakfast at the hotel was rather expensive for what was offered. Didn't go for it as it was not included in the room fare.
The service staff were very good and could speak English. Luggage storage is provided on a nominal charge after checkout, however it was provided to us for free. Overall very good experience.

My first Ibis experience and I have to say they do what they do very well. The whole operation is very basic no frills but feels comfortable. This was the only way I could get decent accomodation at anything like a reasonable rate in this city - the "usual suspects" triple their rates for Paris !

They get the basics right here. Beds are comfortable and I slept well. Courtyard rooms suffer no street noise. Air conditioning is modern, responsive and effective. Strong fast FREE wi-fi available throughout the property. Staff all friendly and multi-lingual always helpful with maps, tours and directions.

Several Metro stations are only a few minutes walk away. The hotel is in a safe reasonable mixed shopping and residential area. A brisk half-hour walk takes you to Champs Elysee and all the sights.

I would normally prefer a few more frills but I have to hand it to Ibis - they have found their niche and they are superb at what they do.

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms are quieter

we stayed here for 2 nights for our honeymoon. the room was clean and had everything we needed. It's an Ibis, so you know what you're getting with them.
Paris is however not to my liking. but thats another story

This is a modern hotel, clean, friendly & helpful staff. Small rooms typical of Paris, but Ibis hotels are where you stay if you want luxury. There are two metro stations within 5 minutes walk, so this is a great location if you want a base for a few days to see the wonderful sites that Paris has to offer.

Stayed in room 408. Front facing amd seemingly larger than most other rooms according to the fire eacape floor plan.Comfy and large bed - although bed sheets were really noisy so turning in my sleep kept waking the boyfriend. Clean bathroom with a tub and overhead detachable shower head. Standard all in one shower/shampoo - no additional toiletries. Toilet paper, single ply, a little rough. Hairdryer and shaving plug in bathroom. No safe, no minibar/fridge. Only 2 plugs near the door and so far from both bedside tables - difficult to charge phone overnight and still have alarm close to bed. Small table and chair and full length mirror in room. No real cupboard, just a few hangers, can realistically only fit 4-5 items in it. No additional floor space for suitcases/bags, not sure anyone with more than 2 cases will fit in the room. Television with lots of French channels, only English channels were CNN and BBC world. Strong amd free wifi. Full length opening window overlooking front of hotel, however also looking into opposite apartment so make sure you are dressed when checking the weather (it rained our whole weekend). Cannot leave open at night as Paris is noisy, however very good at blocking out most noise.

Supermarket and metro VERY close by, and standard issue hotel tourist map is very useful. Ours is in tatters from being so well used. Gare du Nord (eurostar station) approx 20mins walk away. Lots of restaurants and cafés near the hotel, we didn't try any so cannot recommend (use TripAdvisor or download their offline Paris app for that - that was a lifesaver with a detailed maps and hotel, atm, restaurant etc details. Everything normal TripAdvisor has, but offline).

Slight issue - AC wasn't working or at least I couldn't work it. This is an unusually warm hotel, you can feel it in the corridors, lifts and the toilets near the brealfast area. It wasn't warm outside at all (rainy and approx 15c when we went) however the room was like a sauna. As I said you can't open the window due to the noise so we just slept rather uncomfortably, sweaty and stuffy. Didn't mention to the staff as we were only there 2 nights and didn't want to have to change rooms. We would return late and leave early, so no time for that.

Didn't have breakfast so cannot comment. Can leave luggage after check out, before check in for small charge (€2-4 depending on size of locker required)

We stayed in the hotel alongwith my 2 kids for 3 days and payed more than 150GBP per day but its really not worth the money. Hotel staff and especially the manager were rude. The previous guests occupying the room didn't vacate the room on time but the worst part is that in this scenario when manager and staff should have shown concern they said- we can't do anything- thankfully better sense prevailed and the guests vacated the room. Other negative point about the hotel is that it looked like a small residence and the corridors and the connecting part were getting painted without any concern for the guests.. Certainly this hotel deserves to be taken out of the list of Ibis list.
