Two nights at the Melia Colbert, Paris, which is located down a quiet side street just off the riverbank on the Left Bank in the Latin Quarter. Metro is 5 minutes walk as is train to Charles de Gaulle airport. Very welcoming and helpful staff, pleasant room, decent breakfast.

Until a year ago, I lived a 30 second walk from the Melia Colbert (a great building and location just opposite Notre Dame) and used to go past it every day, always wondering what is was like... I popped back to Paris for a few days and found out. It's a charming place with friendly people and I had a lovely room over the entrance. (The only one with a balcony.) I have two small issues. The breakfast room is a tomb and the selection a little miserable for the cost. (It is in a vaulted gallery under the bar.) The second is the "bar" is an honour bar. (self-service and honesty form system.) Every time I went in there - there was no ice and very little in any bottle. The prices - given that it is self-service are too high by the shot. One can't head back up to the mini-bar in the room as the selection there is woeful. Small niggles, but should be seen to, as it's not a cheap hotel - it's just made to feel a bit penny-pinching.

Room Tip: Get room 15 - it has a balcony over the entrance...

Dear satelis,
I appreciate that you took the time to write a comment and I am glad to read that you appreciated our room.
I am very disappointed that our 19th century on-site breakfast was not agreed with your expectation.
Nevertheless, we propose a wide choice of fresh and quality products and I would like to let you know that we offer a special price for our guests if they have the Meliá loyalty card (the card is free of charge).
Do not hesitate to make the card next time you come in our hotel.
Regarding The Honesty Bar, I would like to apologize for the inconveniences that you met during your stay, next time please do not hesitate to inform us and let us know what you need.
The Honesty Bar was created to feeling totally at ease just like at home.
We will appreciate to welcome you back to the Meliá Paris Colbert hotel and we will really do the best to answer your expectations.

Great location and a cute hotel.
Staff were what made staying here enjoyable always happy to help and it was a pleasure to walk in the doors at anytime of day to be greeted with a smiling face.

Room were good value for money and ours was huge 2 stories.
Bed was hard which what we like ,but if you need it to be softer the hotel can arrange.

This little hotel is perfect for a few days in Paris. It is situated right opposite Notre Dame cathedral and only a minute's walk to the Seine and a few minutes from the Metro/RER B station (the train to and from CDG airport). The surrounding district feels quite upmarket and is full of little shops, bars and restaurants which have a lovely atmosphere at night. The great thing about the location of the hotel though is that the street it is in is really quiet, so even though you are so close to all the amenities, there is no sleep disturbance. On arrival, the porter rushed down the steps to take my suitcase from me, and while we were being checked in by a very helpful, pleasant gentleman on reception, brought us cool welcome drinks. Check in was quick and easy. Our room was on the first floor with a view over the front of the hotel and had lovely full length windows. We had tea and coffee making facilities and lovely toiletries provided and restocked each day. The hotel is spotlessly clean.

Overall I couldn't fault this wonderful, elegant little hotel or any of the staff and would have no hesitation in recommending it.

I recently stayed in Paris for 3 days on business, and stayed at the Melia Colbert. I'm very familiar with the area, having rented a flat in St. Germaine before, just around the corner from the Melia Colbert; it s one of my favourite areas in which to stay when I'm in Paris. It offers tremendous amenities - proximity to the Seine, many cafe's, shopping along Blvd St Germain and the Marais, some excellent restaurants, and also the convenience of places to buy food.

In Paris for just a couple of days, I stayed at the Melia Colbert and I was very impressed. Unfortunately, arriving at 10am on a flight from N. America, my room wasn't ready - but I expected that (it's usually the case when arriving in Paris). However I stored my bags at the hotel, freshened up and went for a long walk. The room was ready when I returned at 2PM.

The hotel is terrific. It's ideally located and is extremely clean. It has an elegance about it - the rooms are nicely sized, and the bathroom is quite luxurious (small but luxurious) with wonderful marble floors and walls. The hotel is very quiet and the staff are very helpful.

It will certainly be my number one pick for any return visit to the city.

OUr first stay in Paris was great, the Melia Colbert was a fantastic location, right opposite Notre Dame, right in the heart of all the cafe's, restaurants. Recommend this hotel and the location highly.

Some advices:
RER B is within a few minutes walk - this is the train that you get from Charles de Gaule , use it. Also you can get RER C if you come by EuroTrain.
If you want a taxi, take it BUT please do this so you dont get ripped off. Tell the taxi driver explicitly where the location is, and the name. Tell them opposite Notre Dame. Basically there is a street called Le Colbert, and they try and take you there first, then say "Oh I didnt realise Hotel Le Colbert" , by then you paid extra euros for nothing.... TAKE THIS ADVICE.

Also if you want a great dinner cruise, Bateaux Mouches (Hotel can arrange at same price). Would recommend in evening as this ensures you sail past Eiffel right at the moment it sparkles !! Also consider purchase a ticket to "How to be a Parisienne in 1 hour". This is a one man show, in English. Really fantastic, you can google this show and purchase in advance as it gets sold out.

I was looking forward to seeing Paris for many years, and it didn't disappoint me. If you can, download an App on your iPhone (Paris by Metro it is free), it was invaluable to use to navigate where we were, and what subway to get. You can use this without a simcard.

Hope this information helps. There is so much to see and do, and mostly french people will speak english and help. In subways, they are fairly rude and not liking tourists too much !! Some shops also.

A word on the duty tax free, do your research so you know all the rules (ie. amount you can claim, if it has to be bought at same location/day). Google this before you go to save time and reassure. We came from UK first (ie. bought in pounds) so we had to get tax back at Charles de Gaule as this was our last stop in EU. Overall it is fairly easy, just go to Tax Free counter (French Customs), show your receipts and get it stamped. Then you either go to the Travelex counter right next to customs, and get your cash back ( I got it back in Aussie Dollars no problem), or you put it in an envelope and pop in box to get a credit on your credit card.

Room Tip: We had a room with NotreDame view, only comment would be I may not like a room on the ground level...
