“Average hotel, lovely staff”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

This hotel is located in the 20e, a short walk from Gambetta Metro station. We stayed for one night and the staff are wonderful - incredibly friendly and helpful. They offered us advice on restaurants, transport and things to see without us even having to ask. It’s in a nice residential neighbourhood that’s easily accessible to the rest of Paris.

This is a small hotel, and could do with some renovation works. It is cheap for Paris, but at 75 Euro a night it might not be the best value. The bed in our room was very comfortable, but the whole room really needed to be completely redecorated. The bathroom just has a shower cubicle (no bathtub) and was also rather shabby. The hotel does have an elevator, but it is very, very small. You couldn’t get more than one or two people at a time in there, especially if you have luggage. But an elevator is a rarity in these older type of buildings in Paris anyway, so it’s better than nothing if mobility needs require it.

We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel so I can’t comment on that, but we were disappointed that there was no free WiFi. This really is a standard requirement in all hotels these days.

It’s a perfectly adequate place to sleep - who wants to spend all of their time in their room when there’s so much to see in Paris?! I’d say that it’s fine for a couple of friends backpacking or on a city break, but certainly not for a honeymoon or special occasion! The hotel is also very close to Pere Lachaise, which is definitely worth a visit!

Easy access to the Pere Lachaise and the Butte Chamont parc but the area was nothing spectacular from what I could see. I thought it would be a change from Montmartre and it was good to try a different area but found it was a bit out of the way from areas I enjoy exploring early morning i.e. Montmartre; St. Germain; along the Seine etc. Some Ok cafes and brasserie but the main roads can be very busy and noisy. The hotel experience was quite disappointing, upon arrival the reception looked great and new so thought the rooms would be pleasant too. Our room looked dirty (the walls, floor and seats) but clean bedsheets and bathroom (although I don't stay in Paris for a hotel, it's nice to have somewhere relatively cosy and charming to go back to at the end of the day). The street was relatively quiet but noisy from time to time, it's off a main road and residential.

On our first night, having arrived after 11pm we were awoken at 4am by a fire alarm, only to discover the nigh receptionist had only burnt some toast. We had an apology but would have appreciated a complementary breakfast or something. On our check out day we decided to go for a walk in the area for a couple of hours during the early morning and the manager seemed quite aloof with us that we didn't want to clear out our room already even though check out wasn't until midday. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. The area is ok and worth an explore but I wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: At the front of the hotel you get a pleasant street view but it can be noisy from time to time.

We were worried about staying in the 20th Arrondissement, but it turned out to be lovely and great for travellers. We don't speak a word of French and had no troubles getting around and ordering food.
The hotel is in a residential area with lots of good cafes and restaurants (and some bad ones) and there is a supermarket and a laundromat around the corner. There is a hipster bar called L'Onion down the end of the street that can be noisy at night, but that's what happens in big cities of the world. And the view out the window is of stereotypical Parisian apartments.
Our room was small and clean, except the bathroom is a bit small. We had breakfast at the hotel and were happy with it. The owner/manager was lovely.
Yes this hotel is far from central Paris and it takes a while on the metro. But we didn't mind, and it was nice to get away from all the tourist hassles in the centre of town. It is in walking distance to the famous Pere Lachaise Cemetary.

For those who prefer an hotel located a bit away from the busiest areas of Paris and in a more traditional district (metro at 2 min walk, taxi at 10-15 euro from Gare du Nord). The hotel is quiet and the staff are really very friendly, which in Paris is not always garanteed. True, the rooms receive noise from the street and, in part, from other rooms and are really tiny. But they are definetely clean and have very good wi-fi signal (which is charged for, but at a reasonable 5 euro per stay). I would stay again.

You pay for WiFi, my toilet didn't flush reliably, it's a long metro ride to anything but Pere Lachaise, and the breakfast is overpriced and over pastry-ed. Nice people, but the value isn't there. They need to go out and check out the competition. I stayed in a much better place in Venice that cost less -- and that was Venice, folks.

Room Tip: You may want to get your own breakfast and save the €8, unless you are a croissant-and-coffee person...

We stayed here for one night because it was close to our destination. We left our bags at the desk on arrival, before our room was available. When we returned they were waiting in our room. This had minimal furnishings, but sufficient for what we wanted, with a desk, two chairs and a very narrow hanging space, BUT with moveable clothes hangers, Lots of hot water and enough towels. The large double bed was comfortable and the room warm. Breakfast was a classic French selection of croissants, brioche etc. Staff are friendly and everything is very clean. Perfect for a short stay.

Room Tip: The rooms on the front have some street noise, but not excessively so. There is garbage collection o...
