My wife, myself, and two friends visited this restaurant on a Sunday evening. My wife had visited this restaurant once a few days earlier with a different large group of friends and enjoyed it and was keen to return. However on her second trip both of her choices were off and she settled for a steak which was inedible! This was mentioned to the waiter without any fuss but he merely shrugged his shoulders in the Gallic way ! The other main courses were fine but we didn't stay for anything else and will not return on our next visit to Paris.

We've been coming here, on and off, for almost 20 years and are invariably warmly welcomed by the charming hostess who first weaned us off the 'Bon Couscous' next door. Quite a task when we had been patronising their rivals since the '60's.

A welcome Kir while we studied the menu set the tone for the finale to our visit to Paris. A note of caution: the main courses are so filling and the 'top ups' of the vegetable 'jus' so generous , you may well want to miss out on the starters. We all chose a variety of meat-based main courses and were in no way disappointed. The meats are well-seasoned and cooked. As noted the vegetables are lavish and the couscous light and fluffy in a way one never seems to achieve back home. As with the starters, puddings are available but need a total disregard of any diet to finish. We prefer the mint tea to round off the meal.

Needless to say, we would, and will, return on our next visit to 'La Ville Lumiere'.

I worked in Paris in the spring of 2011 and ate here at least a half-dozen times. The food was always amazing and I kept going back with different friends and colleagues. Everyone agreed, this was the best couscous they had while in Paris, some said the best ever.

The restaurant itself is in a touristy area filled with restaurants - some great, some not so great. The first time we went, we were approached on the street by someone trying to drum up business for the restaurant. There was only one person in the restaurant and I'm always suspicious of places that seem to need to convince you go eat there, so we almost kept walking. The one customer, however, reassured us that he'd been going there for years and we wouldn't be sorry. We decided to take a chance and I'm so glad we did! Oh, and by the time we were finished eating, the place was packed! Turns out, we just timed it right.

The meal started with a free glass of wine. I had the chicken couscous (and kept going back for the same thing) and my friend had the lamb couscous. I'm not a huge fan of lamb, but the bite I had was actually pretty good. The chicken was to die for. It was very flavorful and falling off the bone tender. In addition to the chicken/lamb, the couscous (which was fluffy and flavorful) came with a huge pot of vegetables and broth, which was also very tasty. The portions were huge - way more than the two of us could eat (even though we tried really hard to eat it all because it was so, so good). Dinner was topped off with some free traditional mint tea.

On subsequent visits, we also tried some of the appetizers. These weren't, for the most part, as good as the main dishes, but still pretty tasty. Given the portion sizes, however, I would recommend against appetizers so you can fully enjoy the couscous.

In addition to the great food, the service was also incredible. The owners/servers were very friendly and engaging. We left feeling like friends or at least regulars. The restaurant itself is on the small side and can get cramped when it's full, but most nights we were there, the place was packed with Moroccans and the restaurant's regulars, who made for an interesting and authentic vibe. If you're there late at night, you may get a visit from the owner's cat, Jasmine, who is very sweet.

All in all, a great experience. I wasn't planning to go back to Paris (too many other great places to see), but I might have to go back just for this restaurant!

If you can find your way to the Rue Xavier Privas, just off the Place St Michel in Paris' 'Quartier Latin', you are in for a real treat. Make your way past the numerous other restaurants in this bustling street and head for the 'Nouveau Village' The friendly hostess has been greeting our family for 20 years or more and the standard of food remains reassuringly high.

We usually opt for one of the Couscous menus and this makes for a very filling meal indeed. You won't be needing a pudding but the mint tea offers welcome refreshment at the end of a satisfying spread. The complimentary Kir was a pleasant bonus. Four of us ate well for around 90 Euros all in.
