“Pretty Good for the Price”
Reviewed 6 March 2008

This is a typical 3-star, a tad shabby, but you can tell they work hard to keep things up to date -- new bathroom fixtures, new TV's, etc. But the rooms are old.... so some would call it "charming" and I guess that's apt. My biggest frustration was the breakfast was bare-bones -- cereal and crossiants, but no egg or fruit etc. The desk staff are great, great english (and happy to speak it), very helpful with restaurant recommendations. Internet was FREE with a voucher issued at the front desk. We got the rooms for 95 euro per night -- pretty good for this part of Paris on short notice. If I had choices, I probably wouldnt stay here again, as this hotel is just a bit below my preferred standards -- but in a pinch I wouldnt hesitate.

Great location. 1 minute walk from the Opera. 5 mins from the Louve on the right bank. Tons of restaraunts. Little dated in the decor, but the price and location make up for it. Good service. Clean rooms. Some have renovated baths. Just took the Roissy bus from airport to the opera, and a short walk. Easy to find. Lots of shopping, sight seeing within walking distance. Literally around the corner from Galeries Lafayette, and tons of shopping. Close to metro and RER lines. Would not trade this location. Right bank is where you want to be as a tourist. Felt very safe at night. Loved walking back to hotel after dinner. Would stay there again in a second. Around the corner from the Ritz hotel and Place Vendome.

My husband and I have 3 children and it is impossible to find a room for 5 in Paris. I actually booked the Axel Opera hotel online at the last minute after an apartment we were going to stay at fell through.
When we arrived at that hotel the room reserved for us was set up for
4. We were offered 2 adjoining rooms to accomodate our group at this
hotel right around the corner and apparently under the same management. We chose the 2 adjoining rooms, although it was 40Euro more per night. Our total was 220 Euro per night and we stayed for 4 nights. The rooms were small but each had a double bed and a full bathroom. They can add an extra cot or pack and play for the 3rd child. The ceiling was rather low, my husband is 6'2" and did not have to duck, but anyone over 6'4" should not stay here. We heard too much street noise the first night on the first floor and so we asked to switch to a higher level and it was much quieter up on the 5th floor, but note that the elevator only goes up to the 4th floor. The shower had good water pressure and nice hot water. We did not pay for the hotel breakfast instead we walked one block to a boulangerie. It had excellent croissants, juice and coffee and we spent about 11 Euro for our family (vs 10Euro each for breakfast at the hotel). The location is the best thing about the hotel. It is 2 blocks from Blvd Opera, close to the department stores, Starbucks, and many restaurants and very safe. We walked to the Louvre (very close about 5-10 min walk) and the Jardin Tuileries (beautiful park with fountains, flowers, and ducks). We took the metro several times and there are 3 different lines nearby. The staff was nice but not overly friendly. When we asked for directions or assistance they were helpful. I would recommed this hotel for families but do not expect luxury. It is a mediocre hotel, but clean and comfortable.

I had booked a single room for 3 nights in November - when I arrived, the staff were most courteous, and I was shown to my room by a housekeeper who disappeared very rapidly after she had opened the door.
The room was tiny, which I had expected, but the "bathroom" was a raised moulded cabinet, which contained a shower, sink and toilet. If the faucet for the sink was turned on, the water came over the edge of the sink. The shower had a curtain, and must have been all of about 12-14 inches in diameter - the water came out the door of the enclosure and onto the carpet in the room. I have never seen anything so small.
I asked if there was a bigger room available with a bath, and was informed that it would cost an extra 45 Euros, so I found myself another hotel not too far away where I was offered a room with either bath or shower for not much more than this one.
Maybe some of their rooms are bigger, but I would not stay there again in such a confined space.

From the moment we entered this hotel, we had nothing but problems. They informed us our room was not yet ready and would take about 15 minutes, even though it was 6pm at night. We decided to have dinner and come back, when we came back, we were told that due to "technical difficulties" (whatever that means) we would have to stay at another hotel, their sister hotel, which was a 5 minute walk up the street located on a very noisy corner. The next day we came back to this hotel, we had to drag our luggage back to the ile de france hotel and our room was now ready. They provided an inhouse safe to store our belongings, (which ours didn't work) with posted signs saying they were not responsible for items left in the room. Items were taken from our room, and when we informed the hotel of this fact, they were completely unresponsive. The concierge did not care at all. When we went to leave for the airport that day, we asked the concierge to call us a taxi, he said it would be 12 minutes. We waited 30 minutes and when no taxi showed we asked him to call again. He said he never called the taxi because they were busy. We ended up waiting 45 minutes and still he had not called the taxi. We had to walk to a taxi stand and bring the taxi back for our lugage. The staff was not at all helpful, rude and the management did not respond to our complaints. This hotel is in a good location and reasonably priced, but I would never stay there again.

We stay at the hotel from the 26.-28.08.2005. Its an old renovated manor-house. Our room was directly under the roof.
All rooms have air-conditioner. When you want to take a shower you have to duck, because of the small rooms. And after the shower you can go swimming, maybe someone forget the shower curtain :)
The location is quiet good, you stay next to the opera and after a walk of 5 minutes you are at the louvre.
The breakfast is not so hot, because just i said everything is small. The croissants are tasty.

So we enjoyed our trip to Paris. For 3 Stars you will be satisfied.
