we researched a lot before booking a hotel as travel time from place to place is a lot in paris so this hotel was really accessible as its just 100 m from jaures station which you can take a m5 from almost anywhere in paris may be connecting or direct. But do avoid if you have a lot of luggage as you have to take 1 floor up as the lift starts from there, the ground floor is only the entrance and nothing else, the basement is the breakfast which is though complimentary but nothing much to expect as just few croissants, breads, milk, tea and few fruits all cold breakfast, nothing cooked. and rooms are very small nothing to say as its paris what can you expect smaller rooms are like everywhere even in a 4 star hotels. only drawback in room was the all transparent bathroom its good that i was with my husband not my friends or it would be too awkward. at this price point its a win for budget travelers and a VERY IMPORTANT note to all tourist : Please avoid trains which are full there are lot of gangs who are so perfect that you wouldnt even no if your mobile is gone, happened with me in a tight jeans and front pocket i can still not believe, routes to avoid gare du nord and all full trains, just wait for the next train as it will be just 2 mins but 2 mins will save you 100s of dollars. And most pathetic thing was to file a police complaint only 2 people to take complain and they will take forever to take it as we waited 4 hrs but we got fed up and went away when we heard a person waiting near us was waiting for 7 hrs and he was two spots away. so anyways this hotel was good with a few cons mentioned above. i hope i was of help by the way we were there in 3rd week of march and it use to rain sometimes so better to get a umbrella with you always. and for vegies there is a mc d and subway just a few steps away

Room tip: any room on higher floors as it can be noisy at times

The location is good and this is probably the only advantage. The hotel is not worth the money. There were deficits in the cleanness and the service, the bathroom was really old and the room very small. I didn't try the breakfast. I would not suggest it

Indeed, I had even unexpected before that Buttes Chaumont hotel would be so comfortable and cosy. It is located near metro stations, bistrots, shops, markets and you may rapidly reach the center by using 5 and then 1 lines of metro. Note that there is a nice park (with the same name as the hotel) in 10 min by walk along the street. Rooms are well furnished and decorated, very clean and cosy, albeit may seem small. I lived in room 304 and liked it. It was unusually cool in Paris and room heating was OK. A double bed was very confortable to sleep. Three young men that work at the reception and the woman at the kitchen&bar are always kind and friendly. Continental breakfasts (bread, croissant, jam&butter, juice, coffee, tea) were tasty. I strongly reccomend to store your documents and valuables in the safe box at the reception; a copy of ID or passport front page is OK.

A note to travellers who visit Paris for the first time. Be very careful in streets, crowded places, and subway. Pickpockets, thieves, beggars are plenty. An ideal position of your closed bags is on your belly.

This is a really charming hotel. The room was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The staff were friendly and helpful and the man on reception took a lot of time showing us all of the tourist attractions on a map and explaining how to get to them - it was a really welcoming atmosphere. Another plus is that it was great value for money! The only downside to this hotel is the area it's in. It is not the best to say the least and there were quite a lot of homeless people which was sad to see. It was also noisy with traffic outside and had very thin walls so you could hear everything! However, despite that, it was a great base with a metro stop very nearby. It did not seem like a two star hotel and we enjoyed our stay.

Booked this hotel primarily because it was very cheap and only 3 metro stops away from the Zenith concert venue where we were going to see a band (long journeys in unfamiliar places late at night = stress to me!). I knew nothing about the 19eme arrondisement when I booked but other reviews I read seemed ok. We booked 3 nights accommodation room only.

The hotel turned out to be about 3 mins walk from the Jaures Metro station - very convenient as it is on lines 2,5 and 7. There was an initial problem in that none of the booking information we had seen mentioned that the hotel can only be accessed by ascending a flight of stairs. My partner does not cope with stairs very well and this initially gave us some concern but he managed as we only needed to use them once a day each way as we were out sightseeing most of the time. The floors of the hotel are accessible by a hysterically tiny lift.

The location is not the quietest - the Metro is overland and pretty close by and the room we had overlooked a fairly busy street, but it didn't bother us as the double glazed windows kept the majority of it out and after lots of walking around Paris we were pretty knackered anyway and slept like logs (the bed was really comfy)! Proximity to the Metro and a nice boulanger over the road are the upsides.

The room was pretty tiny but perfectly adequate for us and our luggage and there was plenty of storage. The bathroom had a bath with shower over and the water was good and hot. The bathroom was a little tired looking but everything was clean.

Just up the road there is a lovely little park - Parc de Buttes Chaumont - after which the hotel is named, which is a real escape from the noise and bustle of the city. Evening eating options in the area are fairly limited although after returning from the gig at 1130pm we did find a bar around the corner which was happy to cook us dinner. Another night we ate at a little Tunisian Jewish cafe which had fantastic food and a very genial host (I will be reviewing this cafe - Mipi El - shortly). Lunchtime food options are perhaps better if you like the chains such as McDonalds or Subway, both of which are nearby. There are several bakers and corner shops nearby also.

In all, we found the hotel perfect for our needs. It's not miles away from the sights of Paris but far enough out to not feel like a tourist trap. It's clean, well run and comfortable and we would happily return on a future trip as it was so competitively priced and conveniently situated
