A very hip color design, the purple is not over powering. The hotel is located in a very quite area, about a five minute walk to the subway. A lot of local places to eat. Not many grocery stores, there is a farmers market on Monday or Tuesday next to the subways station. No problems with the free wi-fi. we spent five days here, it was like home.

We stayed for three nights at the Hotel Saint Charles. As many other reviewers have mentioned, the rooms are extremely small - jarringly so, if you're used to typical American hotel rooms. We booked a room for four, and to accomplish this (they sell the room as a quad), they pushed a second queen room in the only walking space available of a "normal" room. It worked, and you're there for the location, but it was still a tight squeeze for four. The area of the hotel is excellent. There are lovely cafes and bakeries quite close, and the metro stops are only a 5-10 minute walk away. Our experience with the staff was hit or miss. The gentleman who initially received us seemed fairly put-out by our request to store our luggage until check-in time, but the gentleman who checked us out was incredibly helpful and friendly. All in all, I would say the staff is good. Perhaps the one host was having a bad day when we arrived. We didn't experience breakfast, because there are so many nice places close, but it appeared adequate. The wi-fi connection was good, but the air conditioning was very weak. We had it cranked down as far as it would go, and there was barely any air-movement coming from the vent. Luckily, wasn't too hot, so not that big of a concern for us. All in all, I would recommend this hotel for those visiting the area.

The Butte aux Cailles neighborhood is a lot of fun and the hotel is reasonably priced and reasonably comfortable in a great location. Rooms are tight but nicely designed, very clean and the beds are good. When we walked in we were thrilled by our view over rooftops and city streets...BUT it was the start of the World Cup and the football fans were VERY loud in the bars on the street below. For quiet's sake we requested a change to an interior courtyard room and the staff were very accommodating--no problem. Under normal circumstances I would recommend the street-facing rooms but maybe not on weekend (or special event) nights.

Room Tip: cafes across the street can be noisy though the street-side rooms have great views--it's a trade...

Good value for money, only negatives are breakfast price (14 euros pppn, so we didn't take it) and that we had a room next to the elevator, which gave some noice in the room, but not too bad. Very friendly staff, excellent location and bedroom and bathroom were nice with sufficient amenities. Would definitely go back!

Room Tip: Do not take room 101 (and I assume also 201, 301 etc.), cause it's next to the elevator!

I have stayed at Hotel Saint Charles twice in the last year. I had never visited this part of Paris before and only went by chance late last year as I was meeting my brother who was at a conference in the area. I am now a convert to the Buitte aux Cailles. It is a like a village within the city and still relatively free of tourists. The hotel is rated as 3 stars and is good value for Paris. Recently renovated, the rooms are clean, beds comfortable, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe and small fridge. Although, as in most Parisian hotels, there is not much space in the rooms the hotel does have comfortable seating areas off the lobby both indoors and outside in a courtyard area. The people staffing the reception area were very pleasant and helpful. Both Corvisart and Place d'Italie Metro stations are within easy walking distance. The little cobbled streets around the hotel contain many restaurants, cafés and bars so there is always plenty of choices for places to eat, drink, have a coffee and watch the world go by. There is an excellent market on Boulevard Auguste Blanqui opposite the Corvisart metro stop on 3 days a week including Sunday. If you want to discover a small area of Paris not overrun with lots of tourists and don't want to pay astronomical amounts for a bed for the night then I would highly recommend Hotel Saint Charles.

I stayed at this hotel with my family for 5 days.Eventhough a little bit far from center, but the the metro station(Corvisart), that is just 5 min away, we enjoyed staying there. The staff was so friendly, helpful and speak english well.Being in Paris, the cost of room was not so nice, but anyway we were satisfied.
