“Beautiful views and convenient location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

We recently enjoyed a 4 day stay in 2 of the superior rooms at the Hotel Elysa Luxembourg. Both rooms had lovely views from their balconies, one was especially picture perfect with bright geraniums in the window boxes. The location of the hotel is great. We have stayed here before and always enjoyed the short walk to the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens and the convenient access at the corner to RER B which connects you to other RERs and metro stops.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was extensive and convenient.

A good start with a very helpful receptionist when we arrived early, bags stored & promise for room to be ready by 2-00 pm.We had booked a Deluxe double which was located on the 6 th floor, good size for Paris & with a door/window opening onto a small balcony with a view across the Luxembourg Gardens to the Effiel tower.. We enjoy the area around the Pantheon as it is full of students & not tourists, so by evening things are quiet, however plenty of good restaurants close by. Look for Au Port du Salut restaurant for a memorable meal

This hotel is located close to dining, entertainment, the relaxing Jardin de Luxembourg, as well as the bus and metro/RER lines. The price was extremely reasonable considering the location and the cleanliness/feeling of security offered by this hotel. We were traveling on a budget and this was by our best hotel experience during our 23 day trip. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and friendly, as they allowed us to store our bags after check out, but before our train was scheduled to depart so we could have a couple more hours to explore Paris without our heavy bags. The room also had a minibar with quality selections and the instant coffee in the room was delicious! There were two minor drawbacks for us at this hotel - the wifi and the shower. We kept getting kicked off the wifi and the it was a time consuming process to generate a username and password. As for the shower, it was just a tub with a handheld showerhead and no shower curtain, which led to a bit of a mess if you tried to stand up and shower. This would likely be a difficult set up for anyone with physical limitations as we had to take a wide a high step to get into the tub. All in all, we would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here again!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 305 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our window view was out to a side street, but...

We stayed in the Elysa for 2 weeks in July 2013, I decided to write this review after the negative review from a fellow Australian. How about a pro / con list with some details.
Pros. Very close to the Luxembourg metro RER stop, literally 30 metres. This allows a direct trip from the airport to the hotel. :)
Equally close to Luxembourg gardens, a great place to wander in the summer heat, which we did most days.
Literally across the road from Franc Kestener master chocolate maker, with perhaps the best chocolates I have ever had, really a revelation! Plus great ice cream, try the pain de espice, ( ginger bread )
Also across the road were a florist, which helped a poor French speaker buy flowers for my wife, so helpful! And a corner store, which had most things including wine and beer.
We could easily wander down to the Seine with Norte Dame, ile de St. Louis and the Louvre. This was past the Pantheon, the Musee de Moyen age, Fontaine Saint Michelle and great patisserie's, boulangeries etc. it was close to jardin de plantes, and the Musee of natural history.
Breakfast daily was great, with a great selection of fruit, yogurt, fresh pastries, cold cuts of ham, salami, cooked eggs, bacon, sausages and toast which changed daily. We were greeted with café au lait? And a request for our room number in French.
Tea and coffee in the room was a huge plus, not common in Paris.
Our room was recently renovated, and renovations were continuing. It was a corner room which was larger, our number was 405.
My wife wants to add that you can give any unwanted coins to a homeless beggar that is always near the steps to the metro. Reducing weight and doing a morally good act as you leave for the airport.
Cons... It was hot, not the hotel's fault, but hot. Especially as the air conditioning failed 2 days into our holiday, and stayed broken till our last day. In saying that, the hotel gave us their fan from their own office to help when we asked. This fan also died after a few more days. I just went to a store which was a bit like the reject shop, and bought a fan. I had to assemble it and had to ask for a screwdriver in French, failed, gave up and used sign language and a screw... :) that got me big smiles and a screwdriver. ( still do not know the French word for it though. )
The lift was quite small and a bit slow, we walked the stairs mostly, except when we were so tired from our walking, then we were happy to wait.
As the air con was broken, our windows were open when we were home. Good for drying our washing, but a bit noisy from the bistro below, but this seems to be a constant in Paris. There is a bus stop on one side of the hotel, good for travel, bad for noise, my wife remembers the bus noise, I can not really. In reality hotels with easy transport options will have a bit of noise, most buildings are older, with less noise proofing, but that is their charm. People are out later in summer, having fun, making noise, it is what it is.
While the reception staff speak a few languages, including English, the breakfast staff do not. Knowing these things in French are essential, 1. Your room number, 2. Bonjour, 3. Merci Beacoup. Makes it all flow perfectly, and it took me a couple of weeks to stop saying number 2 and 3 after we got home, lol.

In summary we had a great adventure, and any adventure is great to look forward to, and back upon, but is rarely 100% great at the time. If it is 100% great it is not really worthy of the title adventure.
How you deal with problems is important to consider, we tried to speak a little French, especially "Je ne parle pas Francais Madame/Monsieur" ( I do not speak French ) :). We were friendly with staff when dealing with a problem and were met with a friendly eagerness to help. For example, I asked for a vase for flowers I had for my wife, there was no vase, but after some thought and searching, they produced a champagne bucket. Big smiles and Merci Beacoup. Problem solved.
Patience, smiles, manners all pay dividends in Paris, whether you are in a hotel, cafe, bistro or restaurant. Raised voices, anger, arrogance and entitlement are met with disdain, stony faces and a sudden inability to speak English. Seating yourself at a cafe, bistro or restaurant will result in you being ignored.
Slow down, be patient and embrace Paris.

This location is excellent! So close to Latin Quarter and Notre Dame, with lots of shops to look into along the way! Restaurants, bakery and chocolate shop on across the street were fantastic. We ran in the morning around Luxembourg Garden, so beautiful. Metro stop on corner. Concierge on departure was kind and helpful, let us split the bill three ways (traveling with two friends) and helped me print my boarding pass. Free Wifi worked well and quickly, easy to log on each time. We did not have breakfast, no need with the patisserie on the corner, great pain chocolat there!

Hotel Elysa Luxembourg is a warm, friendly hotel tucked in a quaint area right beside the Luxembourg Gardens. Our room had beautiful views from both of the little balconies. The hotel staff were very helpful as well as courteous and efficient. The bathroom had a great tub/shower and plenty of room. The neighborhood is safe and the walk across the street to the park is very convenient. Don't miss enjoying mornings or evenings relaxing in the beautiful park gardens. I will come back to this hotel when I return to Paris

Room Tip: Triple rooms are spacious.

Just returned from four days in Paris. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel in 1990 and was not disappointed this time round. Great hotel situated in a lovely area of Paris. Great location for RER & Metro connections, with beautiful Luxembourg gardens across the road. Buffet breakfast good value with plenty to choose from.
Hotel staff very friendly and helpful with information and directions etc.
