“Formidable!”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

We stayed at the Grand Hotel des Gobelins for 3 nights after previously staying there about 5 years ago and we were very impressed this time round. The room we had was large and airy and the bathroom was huge by French hotel standards! The only downside was there was no shower curtain so the walls and floor ended up soaked after each shower! Oh and the plug contraption on the bathroom sink didn't retain the water when the sink was filled - it quickly just drained away. Minor niggles though! It was great to have a bath and shower - I always like to have a long soak in a bath after a day pounding the streets of Paris. We were there during a heatwave and the room had a small electric table fan that was remarkably efficient. You can also ask at reception for use of the ice machine to take ice cubes back to your room to cool any soft drinks, wine etc. The hotel is on a main street in a quiet area of Paris and there was a large Carrefour supermarket close by - great for any last minute essentials that you may have forgotten to bring. Breakfast was much better than when we stayed 5 years ago (then they had often run out of food and there were no staff around to ask). It is basic fare - bread and cheese, cold meats, croissants etc - but enough to start the day well. All in all I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If you haved mobility issues this hotel may not be for you - you have to go up a small flight of sta...

We went to this hotel for a week end break to see the sights. It's a good base to get around from. It's located in a quiet area of Paris not far from Notre Dame(the Latin side). There are two Metro stations near by with links to the RER train from Charles de Gaulle airport. Locally there are several nice bars and restaurants. I can highly recommend the one on the corner of des Gobelins ave by the metro. You are also in a good place for the local buses. A travel pass purchased at the Metro is a good purchase as you can use it on the Train, Metro and buses.
The hotel itself is very nice. Its a quaint Parisian style hotel which is clean and comfortable. The rooms are basic but have what you need. We had a good quiet nights sleep and a nice continental breakfast. I always give true honest reviews and the ones saying the hotel is noisy, old and uncomfortable are rubbish. It's not the Ritz but good value for money. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here when next in Paris.

Room Tip: We had room 19 on the first floor and was very quiet. Rooms on the top floor have a view of the towe...

This hotel is on the border of the 5th and 13th arrondissements a little past the Latin quarter. Rooms are small but ample (our room had a bath) and service from reception was great - always ready to help with queries etc. Buffett breakfast was very nice, and most staff speak English. We only heard one ambulance in two night stay. Only downside was we booked a 3 person room and on arrival it was a double. They provided a fold up, but didn't leave much room. Surrounding area has metro and bus stops close and a range of restaurants.

A lovely hotel in a very good and very well connected area of Paris, just a few subway stops from La Cite'.
I was in a very small single room but with a great view on the boulevards: the room was cozy, very clean, and the bathroom reasonably spacious.
Staff is very kind and helpful and breakfast includes fresh bread and croissants.

We stayed here in June for 2 nights. Hotel is small but lovely. Rooms were clean but our bathroom had a bath/shower without any shower curtain so the floor got soaked every time we showered. We had a safety deposit box in our room which was free but no tea/coffee making facilities in our room. Reception staff were brilliant with directions and advice and cleaning/breakfast staff were very pleasant.

Stayed here for a weekend getaway. Fair price, great location, nice cafes, bars and restaurants very close. Several Metro stations are walking distance away, the surrounding area is neighbourly and interesting. Rooms are small, but it's in Paris, so naturally. Staff helpful, breakfast is adequate (and it's free), would definitely return on next trip rather than shop around as it is worth a return visit.
Clean, tidy, and welcoming, what else do you need?

I found this hotel quite good. Below is a list of some of its positive and negative characteristics.
Pros
- free breakfast
- clean rooms
- staff gave excellent directions
- located close to an inexpensive but good market
- close proximity to different metro lines and restaurants
- fairly safe exterior

Cons
- the meat and cheese were reused three days in a row at the buffet and were out from 7-10:30, causing the cheese to have melted after the first morning
- small rooms
- can easily hear through the walls
- no air conditioning
- staff were occasionally rude
