“Delightful hotel”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

Hotel George Opera is a gem of a hotel in Paris with cute, funky decor and courteous and helpful staff. From the lobby to dining area to the room, Hotel George is very clean and maintained well. We found the building and decor to have a modern touch with old world Parisian charm. The staircase is narrow and winding, but we found that it added to the charm.

Being first time travelers to Paris, we were wary of Parisian customer service. We were greeted by the smiling, courteous, and helpful Lynda. Since we arrived several hours prior to check-in, we were able to store our luggage in a locked room and given tickets for retrieval. Lynda guided us to various Parisian sites and recommended good dining options. Zinedine was also very welcoming and helpful. Our rate was reasonable and included a plentiful breakfast. Breakfast options included various breads, soft cheeses, meats, pastries, fresh/dried fruit, yogurt, omelette, quiche, 2 juices (fresh squeezed orange and grapefruit), tea, and coffee. The hotel also offers a nice afternoon/early evening reception where you can enjoy tea, coffee, soft drinks and light snacks from 1p-9p during the week and Saturday.

The room was small but honestly who spends time in their hotel room in Paris? The room met it's purpose with a clean and comfortable bed and bathroom. We slept soundly as we did not hear any noise either from neighboring rooms or the street. The bathroom was equipped with sufficient toiletries which were replenished daily. We were surprised to find that the bathroom also included a 110V plug.
Hotel George is conveniently located near St. George and Pigalle stations which will get you anywhere in Paris. If you are planning to use the metro from the airport, here is the best way to arrive at Hotel George:
From CDG: Board the RERB to Gare du Nord. Take Line 2 and get off at Pigalle. Transfer to Line 12 and get off at the St. George stop. Hotel George is half a block from the St. George metro stop.
We will definitely be staying at Hotel George Opera again during our next trip to Paris. Thank you for a wonderful first time stay in Paris. We loved it!

After a week-end stay here recently, we can only echo the positive comments of other reviewers. It may have been a bit pricey for our budget if I didn't have a bunch of air miles to blow, but we weren't disappointed. Great location for accessibility to all the central attractions, rooms small but spotless and tastefully fitted and appointed, street noise effectively shut out, continental breakfast good, and the staff we encountered were very pleasant. A bonus for us was finding the restaurant Caffe Jadis just a few doors down from the hotel, authentically local, serving hearty and delicious meals in a warm and cosy atmosphere, at fair prices for Paris, saving two weary tourists an additional excursion to find dinner at the end of a long day.

Let me give you an honest review...don't pay more than 85 euros a night. If you do, you're getting ripped off.

The ONLY staff that was helpful and friendly was Zinedine (hope the name is correct!) and another male front desk staff at night. Zinedine gave us such great advice that saved us so much time & money- thank you for everything!!! If it wasn't for you, I would have rated the hotel much lower.

For the rest of the staff, customer service was mediocre at best. Who doesn't tell the guest during check in that 222 is on the 1st floor & requires heavy lifting of our luggage up steep stairs.. we totally appreciate sweating and running around in a maze after a 12+ hour flight??? And what is up the stare down at your guests first thing in the morning? Sorry you didn't like my outfit! And the attitude when asked a question. Lastly, you will also see 3-5 staff just standing around looking pissed and doing nothing. This was one reason we didn't ask for help.. this made some customers feel awkward. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!

If you look at the map, the ONLY place this is close to is the Moulin Rouge, montmartre, and opera district. Otherwise, your feet will hate you for walking so far damn far to see more important places such as the eiffel tower, versailles, champ elysee, louve, etc... yes, this place is near the green line subway but that is NOT one of the main lines so you'll have to transfer quite a bit.

Oh, the Thai restaurant directly across the street tried to rip us off by giving us bottle water versus tap water and charging us double for rice! Be careful with shady places like this!

Breakfast was good...but be wary when you're the only one asked about your room #... i guess non-europeans look suspicious... it's ignorance like this that's disappointing. oh well...

Anyways, my review was upfront based on what I would want to know as I'm selecting a hotel. At least the hotel was clean but unfortunately, that is only one aspect of what I was looking for. Hope this helps!

Room Tip: make sure not to get any of the rooms that require steep steps!

Great hotel, wonderful staff, first time travellers to Paris, not sure what to expect, for major birthday/anniversary. This hotel is a short walk from St George's Metro, and only slightly longer to Pigalle and Moulin Rouge. Warm welcome, staff could not do enough to help, we got back to the hotel Friday night 8:30, and ask for dining recommendations, which turned out to be a restaurant over the road. While asking, one of the reception staff disappeared out the door and on return, told us there was a table available, which we enjoyed so much we went back again.
Quirky or stylish you decide, we loved it and will be going back - thanks
Don't forget to try out your French, we felt so much at ease even though last time we used it was in achieving CSE grade 4, a long time ago.

We have just returned from a long weekend and this hotel was brilliant. We had a first floor side room which was very quiet, and the blackout curtains meant we had great nights sleep. The whole hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff were all really friendly and helpful, the breakfast was fresh and plentiful, the decor was quirky and a breath of fresh air compared to the usual generic hotel chains.
There was a metro station 2 mins down the street, (it confused us initially as the unmarked exit throws you out onto the opposite side of the road to the entrance!). A walk to the top of the street brought us out opposite the Moulin Rouge and it was only a few minutes from Montematre and the Sacre Cour. The area around the hotel had some great shops and places to eat, up the hill was a bit more seedy with the red light district coming to life later at night. We found the location was great for us with so many great places so close by, Abesses was a favourite with a lovely atmosphere, really good selection of unique little shops and great choice of places to eat.
Our hotel made our stay really enjoyable, the free tea and coffee with soft drinks from the fridge and snacks from the bar when we came back from our travels gave us a boost before we headed out for the evening, our small but quiet and immaculate room was calm and tranquil, the staff always welcomed us with a smile, it was perfect for us and we'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants a unique base to explore the city.

Hotel was renovated at the end of 2013, so it is as brand new. Simple but stylish enough, friendly staff. Metro 2min walk. I was afraid that for the price asked I would be risking to get a disapointment, but at the end it was a great choice!

Good value, well-located just away from the centre but quick and easy to get wherever you want to in Paris, plus an easy walk to Pigalle. The hotel is clean and quiet and breakfast was excellent, with great selection of food, and good for vegetarians.
