My husband and I travelled to Paris in Sept 2011. Rick Steves recommended Le Marais as THE AREA to stay in Paris, and he was right. Very trendy and local. Excellent vibe, cool shops and restaurants and not many tourists (opposite of the Left Bank which is bursting with tourists). The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. I would give them an A+. Don't waste your money on the breakfast at this hotel. It is terrible and expensive. Plus, you want to do what the French do and hit up a local neighbourhood cafe and order une tartine and un cafe au lait and people watch for a good 45 min. The rooms were tired and old. They were clean and quite spacious for Europe standards so that was good, but, the bathroom was mouldy and we had NO HOT WATER for 2 full days! The staff were doing all they could to fix it, but we were only moderly compromised for this massive inconvenience. While I loved the convenient location, the staff and the price (cheap for a Paris 3 star), I will not likely stay here again.

Room Tip: I think you would want to upgrade to a nicer room then the basic if you are staying here.

We enjoyed our first stay in this small hotel in the Marais area of Paris (4th "arrondissement"), just steps away from the Centre Pompidou, the Quais of the Seine, and a short walk from the Place des Vosges. For less than 150 Euros per night, our room on the third floor was small but cozy and comfortable, with a large and modern bathroom (featuring a large tub but no separate shower). Our room featured a good mixture of character and modern amenities, with lovely exposed beams in the ceiling showing the age of the building, while the throughly modern windows blocked out all street noises. We would have wished for a bit softer towels, and there was a bit of mold in the corner of our tub, but the convenience, charm and value of this hotel made it easy to overlook these details. We will be happy to return.

This hotel has an excellent location. The Marais is a wonderful area to stay in. You can walk to most things. Notre Dame, San Chappelle, Latin Quarter, Louve and even the Marais is a wonderful area to walk around, great achitecture. There are loads of restaurants and shops in the area. The Metro is about 4 blocks away at the Hotel deVille. It is a very active area at night. especially weekends because of the huge Gay presence.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. They are genuinely concerned about their guests. They will help you plan your Metro routes and provide touring suggestions.

That is not to say that this hotel does not have its warts. First, it is not air conditioned. Secondly, not every room has a shower. Some have a bahtub with a handheld shower. This was our case, and it does present a challenge. But isn't travel about experiences. However, the room was large by Paris standards and was able to accomodate our suitcases. The furniture is somewhat rustic. Do not expect a flat screen TV.

They offer a breakfast in the basement of the hotel (very unique cavelike decor) which covers most of your basics for 9 1/2 euro. They even have a machine that squeezes oranges. Kids love it. Various breads, pastries, yogurts, some cheese, meats, cereals, coffee and tea.

To conclude, when I return to Paris this hotel will be my first choice.

We finally got a room after planning our trip in advance - short-term travelers will be lucky to get a room. And there is a good reason for this. This historical inn oozes charm in one of the most lively neighborhoods in Paris - Marais - a mix of hipster, gay, Orthodox Jewish and trendy. Walk out the door and you have so many restaurants, cafes, shops, museums and beautiful architecture to tempt you. Reception was very friendly, there was a computer in the lobby for free internet, and the room was spacious and clean with old world features like wooden beams and creaky floors. We loved it. My partner told me not to review this place - it will only get more difficult to get a room... Oh well, too late.

This really is an amazing place!

This is a lovely old heritage hotel with each rooms different. The rooms are decorated in period design, which is lovely. The one small problem is the rooms are not air-conditioned, however, unless it is really hot, this shouldn't be a problem. Also the front desk is open 24/7 and the staff are really helpful and friendly.

The area is very vibrant and central to all of Paris, with 2 metros and walking distance to most of the major attractions.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the street

Arrived at the Hotel some time after 2pm and was greeted with a smile. Chek in was a breeze and found my junior suite , number 28 on the 3rd floor to be cosy, clean and, with seperate rooms for sleep, exactly what I had asked for....Breakfast is probably the only part of the experience I did not enjoy......the breakfast room is a basement, cave like room which felt a bit gloomy and the spread was a bit sparse....the temperature of the breakfast room was uncomfortable......

The desk staff were polite and readily answered all my questions as well as taking care of several items i needed. An embarrasement moment was avoided when my credit card lacked funds to cover the entire amount.upon departure and the lady at the desk agreed to sort it out at a later date. This type of thing does not happen often and all ended well. I recommend the Hotel to all types of travellers who wish to stay in a small effecient hotel in a busy but central area surrounded by diversity, colour and polite staff. Merci.!.

Room Tip: I requested a junior suite as i needed a seperate sleepin area.......room 328....large bathtub, two...

Our family with 2 12 year olds stayed at the Hotel de la Bretonnerie for 3 night following a canal barge tour in the south. The women at the front desk the entire stay were the nicest hotel staff we have experienced. It is an older hotel and felt very cozy and comfortable. Finding large rooms for families is not that easy in Paris but our room was both large, neat and clean. Location was very convenient to so many attractions. We had stayed at a much higher rated hotel before our trip to the south and all of us voted that this hotel was better experience than a top 10 tripadvisor hotel!
