Les Degres de Notre Dame was exactly as we expected having read previous reviews. We knew it had no lift but Satoshi helped us with our suitcases. We were in room 501 so after 3 nights we were getting fitter with the help of the stairs.

Our room was amazing and we loved it. We could see Notre Dame out one side of our room and Montparnasse out the other side. This hotel is a real find in my opinion, having such a large bedroom in Paris and so close to Notre Dame for €170 per night is good value especially if you compare with other hotels in the area. It would improve the appearance of the hotel if the breakfast area and entrance were painted, it feels just a little neglected. That is not to say it took from our stay there, it didn't.

We asked for a taxi to be ordered and it arrived on time, Satoshi (hope spelling is correct) waved us off, he was a quiet man but friendly and helpful. Due to the rail strike and an accident
it took us 2 hours to get to CDG airport and it cost €100.

One of our visits was to Montparnasse, it was much better than I expected. I would suggest going there and taking time over lunch or just having coffee. Identifying all the landmarks is very enjoyable. There is a market nearby on Wednesdays mornings also.

I am very happy we stayed in this hotel and will recommend it to my friends.

Have stayed several times before and enjoyed the charm, however there has been a change of management. Certainly the location is excellent but the hotel now has a different feel. In the past the breakfast was included which meant that there was interaction with staff and other guests to add to the experience, but now as the breakfast is extra we chose to eat out and felt that it had more of a hostel feel and not so much a hotel. There is no lift so not so good for less mobile travelers. Would recommend for first time Paris visitors as the location is now the best point.

Room Tip: Good for first timers

Charming and quaint are words that are often overused ... but exactly right for this small hotel in Paris with an open Bistro and cosy bar and the most amazing staircase. The rooms are cosy and facilities are what you need when traveling. The staff are very friendly and helpful and breakfast will get you through the day nicely. Located one block back from the Seine and on the edge of the Latin Quarter everything that is Paris is within easy reach or a quick Metro ride away.

Room Tip: When they say 'big bed in small room' they mean it

We used to stay at this hotel everytime that we were in Paris. We love the location in the heart of the old Paris. The hotel has character but no elevator. We find what we need in the center of Paris and near Notre Dame. Bedrooms are small, no air conditioning, very small bathrooms and beds are ok. The hotel is clean. Since the new management this year, they don't include the breakfast anymore in the price so you have to pay $ 13 per person for a continental breakfast. When asked they answer that it is improved but I didn't see any improvement. A shame.

This is our fourth time at "Les degres de notre Dame". I have family just across the road so this is a very convenient hotel for us! However, the location is indeed great as you have a true feeling of Paris with all the local shops while you are next to all the touristique places! The hotel looks like an old house in the centre of Paris. Nothing special quite old rooms but we kind of liked this. However, you will occasionally (like this time) find mould at the shower and dust on the curtains (sticking on your hands). Not very expensive for Paris standards but definitely not cheap. What I liked about the hotel was the friendly and smiley staff. They also used to offer free breakfast which was basic but a nice touch that made you feel welcome. The management, though ,has changed and now they charge €13 per person for breakfast!! This definitely is not worth it as it is just croissants, one variety of cheese and fruit This is due to the new management and may I highlight that on their website the breakfast is still advertised as included!! compote! If you stay there do not bother!!! Just visit the amazing shops at the square instead! On top of that this time we stayed on the top floor at room 48. The room had some bathroom problems and staff should have already known about it since we found the window open. It was not until the next day though (when we closed the window, it overlooks another block of flats) that we realised what a terrible smell the room had and why have they left it open in the first place! It made us nauseous and we had to open the windows again and close the bathroom door before we could finally go to bed. When we told the receptionist (not the friendliest person indeed) she did not even bothered to apologise!!! All she cared was trying to charge us for phone calls we never made! Moreover, the sleep quality at room 48 is very poor as the curtains (the dusty ones!) do not block the daylight! The place does not seem friendly at all (except from the smiley "chef") anymore, on the contrast they have an out of place attitude! For that money you can definitely find other nice places in that area! It is a shame because the feeling of a small Parisienne home was all this hotel had to offer! It is only for the experiences with the old management that I do not give lower rating!

we stayed here from 29/03 to 03/04, in room number 5 (top floor), family of 4.

you know those old buildings that have been refurbished on the interior, all new and modern hotel amenities? this isnt one of those. but i don't mean that in a bad way, though some might take it that way. this is the kind of building that has not been renovated, where wiring runs along the surface of the walls, where paint and plaster cover a mess of stuff, and the towels have some other hotel name on them. some might see run-down, some might see character or shabby-chic. it was perfect for us.

we stayed on the top (attic) floor, no elevator. nice big room (especially for paris), trundle beds were pulled out, slept 4 comfortably (hit my head a couple times on the beams, but thats ok). paris had their coldest spring in 30 years, so the extra large soaker tub in the bathroom was a welcome addition for the wife and kids to thoroughly warm up after a long cold day. a few worn area rugs thrown across the floor, a small table, desk, fake wood stove. very clean. technically, you can see a tower of notre dame from the corner of one window.

breakfast was expensive, so we just picked up some stuff at the patisserie a block away on our way out for the day (wow, wish we had those at home...). a note on the desk asked guests not to eat in the room.

now the location. i would challenge you to find a better location for someone staying in paris. 1 block from notre dame and ile-st-louis, very near the bustling bar-filled as well as classier parts of the left bank but on a quiet street, 1 block from st-michel RER stop (direct for both airports and versailles). there is nothing you could want access to that is not nearby and in walking distance (except thankfully, a train station).

we were here over easter weekend; the staff left a couple of chocolate easter eggs from a local patisserie with a happy easter note for the kids, very nice touch and much appreciated.

Room Tip: top floor, if you can do the stairs....

My wife and I spent 1 week here during our honeymoon in 2008 and loved it. We had the top room with views of Notre Dame.
First, let's talk about the negatives. The room's furniture was spartan and the bed wasn't very comfortable. To get to the top room you have to walk a circular staircase so if mobility is a problem for you I might suggest another room.
Now, what we LOVED about the hotel! Firstly, the location is out-of-this-world. It's maybe 200 yards to Notre Dame. Plus, if you do book the top room you'll be able to see Notre Dame's bell towers from your window and hear the bells throughout the day. It's also a short walk to The Louvre, Musee de Orsay, and the Pantheon. There are a number of fantastic restaurants on the isle de la citie (La Rose de France was our favorite) that is, again, only a short walk away.
The complimentary breakfast was simple (croissants, coffee, juice, fresh fruit, breads) but delicious. The croissants that we had at the hotel were the best that we had in Paris. The restaurant is artsy, eclectic, and cozy. Paintings adorn every possible surface of the breakfast area and give it a genuinely warm and comfortable feel. The owners were polite and hospitable too which is always a treat.
We would recommend Les Degres de Notre Dame to anyone and would happily stay there again. I can't stress enough the importance of the location. It is in the heart of EVERYTHING! You won't find a better location for less.

Room Tip: The room at the top with views of Notre Dame was magical. Pay the extra 10 euros or whatever it is a...
