We were lucky to use the Gare du Nord as a travel stop. It is the busiest railway station in Paris as it is not only used for the metro trains but many coming and going from other major cities such as London, Amsterdam, Brussels and Frankfurt.

Buses can be caught outside as well as taxis.

What we loved was the beautiful facade and the funky art outside. There were lots of food and coffee stalls inside as well as outside.

The station is convenient. However the security line is a disaster. The staff and screening equipment are totally ill equipped to handle one Eurostar, let alone two within an hour. I waited in security for more than one hour on each of my last two Sunday evening trips. This needs to improve.

When something goes wrong the whole place breaks down into a chaotic mess. Nobody tells you what to do they just pile you up outside the border control. You'd think they would have practiced or learnt through experience how to manage a crowd but no.

Massive train station with both international and metro trains. A lot of places to eat. Was disappointed with the long queue at Eurostar where we had to scan our tickets. Stayed over 30 mins in the queue then had to queue to scan my passport then for some reason the systems failed and had to join another queue. It's not their fault due to the delays as there was an evacuation due to an unattended luggage and congestion which caused this.

This is the Main Terminus for The Eurostar train from London plus SNCF main line trains. The place is huge with more below ground than above, I'm sure. A very busy place with the usual cafes and bars, so no lack of food and drink. Beware of pickpockets and undesirable people that congregate around. Saying that The Police seem to be on top of this more that they used to be. The outside is a magnificent frontage typical of the architecture of its time.
