Five stars to Hotel au Royal Cardinal for providing a clean room, a power shower with lots of hot water, a firm, comfortable bed and helpful, courteous staff, all in an excellent location and all for €125 a night. This is a 2-star hotel? On my last stay in Paris we stayed in a so-called 3-star hotel on the Right Bank and all we got beyond this was an extra €200/night on our hotel bill along with "updated" decor and a service or maintenance complaint every day.

By contrast we were more than satisfied with the basics provided by this excellent budget option, and unlike others we had no issues with noise even though we were facing the street; the windows when closed provided adequate insulation. Those complaining about the tired decor would do best to put their money where their mouth is and check out the Plaza Athenee.

This was our second trip to Paris, and this time we were determined to stay in a desirable, atmospheric part of the city within easy walking distance to most of the must see sites. We chose the Hotel Royale Cardinal because it is right in the Latin Quarter and close to Ile de la Cite and the Left Bank. The hotel was consistent with what one comes to expect from a(relatively) low to mid range price point. Although the elevator was miniscule (we had to take turns bringing up the luggage) and the room was, as anticipated, tight, we were pleasantly surprised to see a comparatively expansive, fairly modern bathroom and, as an unexpected treat ,a balcony overlooking the street. The staff were pleasant, helpful and unfailing patient with non-francophones. The dreaded, European street noises were not a problem. Our one night stay passed quite peaceably. If trading off amenities for location, the Hotel Au Cardinal will do quite nicely.

This is the second time we have stayed here. The last time was 2005, Nov. Rooms are adequate, clean and staff is helpful, friendly and speak English. This hotel is situated near the Metro in the Latin Quarter which is convenient to restaurants, shopping and sightseeing.

Room Tip: we were given the top floor (6th) and it seemed ok- noisy with windows open but it quiets down around midnight. If you want quiet ask for an inside rooms that doesn't face the street.

We checked in on Sept. 8 and stayed here for 4 nights. The staff was helpful and friendly. We stayed in a double room which was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel was no more than a 10 minute walk from the train station so the location is great. We did not eat here so I cannot comment on the food or prices. Our stay was enjoyable and I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

This is a supposedly 2 star hotel. It is clearly not, room was clean and safe, location was fair, Staff was helpful at times, Breakfast was overpriced. The hotel does not have A/C. You can borrow a fan from the hotel, However the room is So small I'm not sure where you would put it.
