Large contemporary art exhibits within a sprawling, high-ceiling edifice. The restaurant is a popular watering-hole featuring a quinoa/ginger type menu. We saw an intriguing exhibit of participatory art in a huge hall turned into a labyrinth by hundreds of old tires.

After the Pompidou probably the must see museum if you are into contemporary art. Check their calendar so you can watch a performance. The place is open till midnight what is kind of awesome. The bookstore is great.

If you only have a few days in Paris, you probably shouldn't go unless you are a huge fan of contemporary art. There are only temporary exhibitions at Palais de Tokyo. (It has absolutely nothing to do with Tokyo in case you are thinking of getting sushi there.) I went to the PHILIPPE PARRENO exhibition, it was interesting but very abstract.
However I do highly recommend paying 2 extra euros and participate in the guided tour. My tour guide was super helpful in explaining the ideas of the exhibition and very cute :)

The majority of Parisians these days, I find, are welcoming, friendly and helpful, which I have to say is a change from days gone by. But, perhaps surprisingly for a museum dedicated to the modern, the staff in this place both individually and collectively have the old tradition of shrugging indifference and unveiled contempt down to a T. For a new visitor the layout of the building isn't immediately clear, but don't waste your time looking for help - or indeed eye-contact - from the zombies working here.
