Grand Hotel de Turin

Reviewed 30 July 2014

A few of me and friends cycled London to Paris, and after several days with weary legs we arrived Grand Hotel de Turin. On arrival were we told our bikes were not allowed in, though though it is cited as cycle friendly on other sites. The man on reception was very rude and not accommodating at all. He offered no assistance in finding a secure area for our bikes and so we were sent into the Paris night to search for a few hours for somewhere to put our bikes. Finally we found a hotel near by called the Timhotel Saint Georges, who seemed to know what customer service was, and although there was a fee let us store our bikes at their hotel, next time we know where to go.

Upon arrival the managers were extremely apologetic as there was an issue with our rooms. They informed us that we were to be relocated to the Royal Fromentin with free breakfast and wifi. The manager personally escorted us to the hotel, whilst informing us about all of the transport and places that we might enjoy visiting.

The owner is pathetic when it comes to customer service. He's rude with everyone, including adults and especially to children if they run around/make even a tiny bit of noise in the reception area. I was surprised how everyone was letting him be rude with children.

The elevator is very tiny and stops abruptly. You run the risk of getting stuck in the tiniest of elevator you have ever seen (and all the rooms are upstairs you almost have to take the elevator).

And the area around is fairly shady too. Is it a red light area?

Room Tip: Skip this hotel if you can.

A good location, and very friendly staff. Basic, but clean rooms, comfortable beds, an average quality breakfast. It is a good quality hotel for a reasonable price. I would definitely stay there again.

Rooms seemed nice and bright in pictures, but in reality our room was extremely dark and dismal; no dressing table area with mirror, no tea/coffee, small single beds on castors (with woolen blankets?) extremely close together and moving all over un-carpeted floor. One day room not cleaned - towels removed and windows opened wide, but then forgotten. Reception Staff unfriendly. At their recommendation booked minibus back to airport - arrived 20 mins late, was not in good condition and cost the same as a taxi - definitely not worth booking. Small, adequate, en-suite but with no window or ventilation therefore extremely steamed up after a couple of showers. However, good location with lots going on around it.

Staff was welcoming and accommodating through stay; room compact but serviceable with adequate work desk for sleeping and periodic computer work. Internet connection proved very strong in lobby but weak in some areas of hotel (my assigned room on top floor and at end of hall).
