I read many of the reviews before booking this hotel via a hotel offer site - so my expectation was met accordingly and for the price I paid, I was pleased.
Everything the hotel claims is accurate, so no surprises - yes, you could say the rooms are smallish compared to other European cities - but as it only served as a base to sleep and rest - then it served its purpose well. I had no problem with this The room was very clean.
It surprised me that people complain on here about the hotel being far away from the centre of Paris - how can this be a surprise to people as the location is clearly shown on the hotel website. For me, I liked the location - was nice to get out of the main hub of Paris at night - there are some nice eateries and plenty of shops nearby. Also, with the Metro only 5 mins walk away and the RER less than 10 (direct line to CDG Airport) - this was ideal for getting to the centre of Paris (although not everything that you need to visit is in the 'centre' - so even more ideal).
The downside for me? ... wifi ! ... it was so intermittent that it was non existent - I don't think I was connected for more than 20 seconds at a time. I brought this to the attention of the staff member on reception - he was very helpful, rebooted the router etc, but the problem persisted and so I reckon it was just a poor service. As a lone traveller, and in this modern age, good wifi is really valued - it lets you read up on sights to visit, pre book, interact with friends back home on social media and post pictures etc. I was disappointed in the wifi.
Overall, I was happy with the stay here.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- How would you know, before actually entering the Villa Royale Montsouris, that you would be crossing the Mediterranean? The lobby, decorated in Andalusian-Moorish style, is a perfect representation of the charms of the Orient. Colonnades and vaulted ceilings, copper, zelliges and wrought iron make the hotel look like a traditional Moroccan riad. Combine the stories of One Thousand and One Nights with draperies, sheer curtains and precious fabrics and the rooms seem to jump straight of oriental palaces. The elements of the decor bring brightly-coloured touches to the place: the reds of the floor tiles and the ochres of the earthenware, the Majorelle blue of the doors, which, when closed, make Paris seem very far away. In this exotic and wonderful universe, the service provided by the attentive staff add a personal note to the unique charm of the establishment, located in a peaceful district of the Capital, near the Parc de Montsouris and the tram that’s a direct connection with the Porte de Versailles Convention and Exhibition Centre. ... more less
