I've stayed at Hotel des Canettes twice, just back from Paris last night. The rooms are basic but cleaned to an acceptable standard; small, but as noted elsewhere, you don't want to be in your hotel room with Paris beckoning. I have not found street noise a major problem, and most recent trip had a very quiet courtyard room. Unfortunately guests use the courtyard as an ash tray and it's littered with cigarette ends, so I kept my net curtains closed to avoid looking at them - in fact Paris is turning into an open air ash tray (slightly worse than London, where I live).
Anyway, the hotel is in a fantastic location and that's why I stay there. two minutes from Metro S Germain des Pres, Marche s Germain, Monoprix, post office.... 1 minute the other direction to Place S Sulpice, with Musee du Luxembourg another couple of minutes further (Cezanne exhibition currently). Louvre 10 mins walk; Notre Dame 15 mins.
Haven't had any problems with the staff, tariff etc, always polite and helpful - I do speak French, which probably helps. I have never had breakfast in the hotel since there are many lovely cafes locally, so can't comment on that.

Room Tip: If noise is an issue for you, ask for an inward facing room.

We booked this room through travelocity. It was one of the last rooms we could find on line available for the time we needed and our budget. The rooms were basic and clean. Bathroom was clean as well. Shower was a bit small but I think that is normal for Paris. The hotel staff was very helpful and spoke english. They offer breakfast at 8 euros a person but you can grab the same at a cafe outside and get the real Paris feel.

The rooms are a bit noisy so if you are a light sleeper then bring earplugs. There are a few bars below that are open late and people were out til about 4 - 5am most nights/mornings. The weather was exceptionally nice for the end of September so I dont know if that was why.

We ordered a price fixed taxi from the hotel to the airport which cost 55 euros. The hotel arranged it for us. Our flight was early so we had to catch a taxi at 5am to get to the airport. There are metro stations nearby Saint Sulpice (4 line) which is a 5-10 minute walk. Odeon and St.Germain de pres stops are not too far either. We walked to most sites and the night life in that area was perfect.

Overall a pleasant stay and good value for Paris hotels.

What a great place to stay in Paris. Just off the Boulevard St Germain, three mins walk from the Saint Germain des-Pres stop on the No.4 Metro line.

If you need a crash pad for a quick overnight stay in Paris then this place is inexpensive, clean, good showers, pretty quiet considering the street outside is pretty busy late into the evening.

Definitely recommend it for a quick overnight stop.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back will be quieter.

Situated close to the center of the 6th Arr., this two star pension is great. You definitely get what you pay for (tiny rooms, no frills) but I'd recommend this to heartier, more experienced travelers that understand you spend little time in your room when visiting Paris.

Room Tip: Interior rooms are quieter but darker. Bring earplugs for the brighter rooms that are right on Rue des Canettes

It is located in a street full of bars with loud music. Even though closing the windows help, you still hear everything. You hear also the other guests shouting at 7:30 am. There is no elevator to the first floor, just to the others floors. The furniture is very cheap and old. You pay 8 euros for a breakfast that has just a coffee, an orange juice and a croissant. This is the kind of hotel you feel you don't want to come back at the end of your day. Although there are not so many budget hotels in Paris, I felt fooled.
I was very badly impressed by this hotel because I had stayed in another one during the same week, which was the same price but was much better. I had payed 130 Euros in a small but cozy, elegant and brand new hotel in the Quartier Latin, which I highly recommend (Europe St Severin). Their breakfast was 12 Euros, but had everything you could wish for. Excellent location, very near Notre Dame.
