“Shouldn't have wasted our time”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

We visited Le Lutèce for breakfast one morning. There were very few customers at the time, possibly no more than 4 tables occupied and 3 waiters available.

Needless to say, this was a classic example of poor service and one way to see you customers walk out.

We seated ourselves near the counter on recommendation of the waiter who saw us in and proceeded to give us two menus. We decided what we would have and called over the waiter to order. Order taken; two coffees and two croissants. A pretty basic breakfast that shouldn't be too difficult right?

Wrong.

Everyone else in the restaurant had been served and were eating or sipping their coffees, yes it still took the employees here 25 minutes to deliver our coffees and croissants. This was AFTER we asked were our order was about 15 minutes in, and AFTER we attempted to walk our in disgust after 20 minutes when we didn't get a response.

Poor form. I know French service can be sometimes slow, which is their way, but this was beyond pathetic given the circumstances. With no one waiting for food or coffee, it took them almost 30 minutes to deliver a simple order.

Only a few hours later up the road, it took less than 5 minutes to order and receive a coffee and a reasonably busy establishment. Le Lutèce was just a poor experience, not to mention expensive.

I would never go back.

“Average breakfast and VERY Pricey!”
Reviewed 10 June 2013

My parents and I had a quick breakfast here before heading on a walking tour (which met just a few steps away at the Fountain Saint Michel). It is located just outside the Saint Michel metro station, and situated right in the middle of all the tourist bustle. Overall, this is a nice little cafe but is very, very pricey. My mother ordered the breakfast special, which only consisted of a croissant, a piece of bread, jam, and coffee (priced at 10 euros). I ordered a croissant and espresso (priced at 4 euros). For such a small breakfast, we thought this was quite expensive.

Overall, if you want a nice little Parisian cafe to sit and people-watch while enjoying your morning coffee, this is a decent (but expensive) spot. However, if you want a good (much more filling) breakfast with more reasonable prices, there are other bakeries and cafes in the area which would fill that criteria much better (i.e. Paul's just a few steps away).

“Nice little cafe”
Reviewed 1 June 2013

I had a very tasty salad and rose wine. May be a little too much oil on the salad. Typical high Paris price, but not surprising for St Michel area. Nice interior with attentive staff.

“Nice for lunch”
Reviewed 7 May 2013

Enjoyed salad and sandwiches. Waiters are patient with our limited French. I wished to see more than one soup choice.

“Not a place for a good croissant ...”
Reviewed 3 December 2012

Stopped here for a French breakfast of 10.5 Euros, which is hardly cheap, and with a croissant that was a great disappointment. Took 3 requests to get a glass of water. Avoid.
