the actual hotel is pretty ugly inside. the rooms are very small without too much attention to aesthetics, but it's a great place to stay if you're going to be out a lot. it's in an amazing location with fantastic cafés around right in the middle of the quartier latin. very very close to a metro stop. there's no elevator so carrying our bags up the stairs sucked a lot. there's an american who's at the front desk a lot who's pretty miserable. she's not very friendly (not mean, just unhappy i think). they "make breakfast" meaning they give you bread and jam and a little coffee or tea. it's good if you're a student who doesn't mind staying in places that aren't really nice. it's very functional and surprisingly clean. i was fine with it but wasn't particularly impressed either.

My husband, my 24 year old daughter and myself stayed at this hotel in July for 3 nights. The hotel itself is old and what I would call a bit "kitch" with linoleum on the floors and dated furnishings. The room we had was very small with a small bathroom which only contained a toilet and hand basin. We shared the shower which was off the passage next to our room - it was large and very clean and I never saw/heard anyone else using it.

Our room contained a double bed, 2 single beds and a fold out bed (for some reason) with very little room to move round the room. Our daughter slept on the fold out bed as it was slightly larger than the singles. However, the room was adequate as we only slept there - too busy seeing the sights during the day.

It was very convenient being able to use the laundry and also the small kitchen to prepare an evening meal. The staff were very pleasant (even though we couldn't speak French) and we enjoyed the breakfast of baguette, spreads, tinned fruit salad, juice and hot drinks (which was included in the price). The hotel itself is in a great spot - only a block from the metro and bus, close to shops and restaurants and within easy walking distance of the Seinne and Notre Damme.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone who is on a budget and who doesn't mind climbing several flights of stairs.

Our trip in July 2008 was the sixth time we've stayed at this hotel. I don't think we'd consider staying anywhere else in Paris. It's clean, reasonably priced, the staff are helpful, and it has a great location. There's a big collection of travel books and maps to borrow, lots of advice and suggestions for attractions to visit, and a friendly cosmopolitan atmosphere.

I stayed at the Marignan in 1973 and was amazed to find it still in existence in 2008. We were a family of two teens and two adults and found the room with bath comfortable, tidy, and convenient.
They offer the use of a kitchen and laundry facility and make one feel quite at home. We spent most of our time out-and-about in Paris, but often had a quiet afternoon siesta in the hotel. As the hotel is only a block or so from the subway it was very convenient to come and go.
I recommend this hotel to any budget-minded family who wants more than a hostel but does not mind close quarters.

No frills here but the price and location are great. Staff are friendly. Access to the kitchen saves money but plan to cook (or reheat) before or after the crowd. The library of travel books available is very helpful. Free laundry is fabulous. We stayed in the family room on the ground floor (no stairs!) and had a lovely modern and large bathroom - there was even a hairdryer! On the downside, having a window right on the street was very noisy - not traffic but loud people even into the night. The location can't be beat. The street is quiet but one block in any direction and you are in the middle of shops and restaurants. Funky decor but great for the price.
