Campanile Paris 11 - Bastille
Ranked #579 of 1,803 Hotels in Paris
Reviewed 3 September 2011

We just spent a week at the Campanile 11 Bastille. We are a family of 4 with 2 young children and stayed in one of the Quadruple rooms. The room was U shaped (which was odd at first) with a huge bathroom in the middle of the U. The room was on the small side but we were out most of the time so that was not a factor. There is a supermarket in the next block which was good for us with kids. There are 2 Metro stations within 2 blocks and the 69 bus runs right past the hotel with a stop on the next corner. We had booked the room to be close to family and found we really enjoyed the neighborhood as it was not touristy at all. You feel more like a local than a tourist. Good restaurants and cafes are all around. Most of the other guests were European as there didn't seem to be many Americans during the time we stayed. Now for the downside. The hotel phones went out on Friday evening and were not repaired until Monday evening (and with a hurricane bearing down on our house in the States it was hard to call home as you had to go out and find a pay phone). One of the 2 elevators also broke down Friday evening. At times the front desk people could be short and difficult. On the whole the stay was good and we had good time.

Just got back from a three day visit to Paris with my daughter. We arrived at our hotel at 7pm to find the computer broken which according to the receptionist meant we could not check in. He was unable to inform us and two other guests checking in as well, any time when we might be able to. In fact when one couple asked if there was a back up system, and I think this may have annoyed him, he said if they had wanted a better service they should have paid more money and gone to a better hotel, also they could get the police if they wanted but he couldn't check him in. I laughed out loud at this point.
We finally left our bags behind reception and went and had something to eat. We got back about 10pm and was able to check in. The receptionist offered no apology or excuse.
The room was very basic in fact so basic, there was no toilet paper,so my daughter went back down to reception to get some. I didn't fancy her chances much, but thank god she was successful!
The room was small but since we had no intentions of staying in it much, was okay. The beds were comfortable, but my only issue was the noise from the doors from other rooms open and closing. It sounded like they were coming into our room. We didn't use the restaurant so can't comment. And when we check out the the receptionist ( a different one) was pleasant.

But as for Paris, it was fantastic. I would recommend it to anyone. So much to see.

Stayed here 3 nights in August 2011. Modern, wonderful chain with air conditioning, clean, quiet, superbly located near metro Breguet-Sabin as well as Opera Bastille and right next door to bus route #69 (stop is on Chemin Vert where it crosses Richard Lenoir Blvd) which is the best for sightseeing as it passes by lots of monuments, goes through the Louvre gates by Pyramid and ends up at the Eiffel Tower. Near grocery stores, restaurants, shops, and short walk to Marais/Place des Vosges as well as many other spots. Staff were gracious, helpful, and the night clerk was one of the kindest individuals I've ever met. Have stayed all over Paris in all types of places and this was among the best for the price. No complaints at all.

The hotel was clean, service good & location excellent. A little supermarket was across the road & a cafe bar just 300m away. Bastille station, market, bars, restaurants etc, a 10 minute walk from hotel. Wifi was free but slow, sometimes not available in our room. Shuttle service to the airport was expensive, 60 euro compared to 40 euro for a taxi. We didn't use the bar or have breakfast at the hotel. There is no frig in the room.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room overlooking the courtyard and away from the lifts.

One block from metro, five mins to bsstille and twenty to notre dame on foot this is where you want to be. Le marais district is perfect for younger visitors, interested in culture, food, etc. But this hotel is bare bones. Room is tiny. No fridge, no safe, no closet. Nice shower, dual heads, and decent bed. But rude staff.

Although I prefer the Campanile Montparnasse, this one's okay. It was clean, except I didn't feel real good about the rug. WiFi was sketchy. Good location. Use the Chemin du Vert metro stop, not St. Sabine as recommended on their website for some reason. The room is a bit small but workable if you're not going to be in the room a lot. Bed is comfortable enough although it is up against the wall. Try to book the Montparnasse location instead. Breakfast is good with great yogurt. A decent value.

Room Tip: Book at the Campanile Montparnasse

The hotel is located very near to a metro station (Breguet-Sabin) and there's also a nearby supermarket. A few minutes walk will bring you to the Bastille station, which gives accessibility to more Metro lines. There are lotsa cafes and shops in the surrounding area. For a young family with a toddler, we felt that's its a safe area..even to walk around at night.
The service at the hotel reception was also great. Check-in was a breeze and the personnel were polite , friendly and courteous. Even the night shift was great.
We had booked a double room and at the rate given, it was a really good deal! The room was big enough for 2 adults + 1 toddler and the bathroom was a decent size. We've stayed in studios/boutique hotels in other places which had far smaller bathrooms..so we were very pleased with this one.
Our room had air-cond, but it wasn't really necessary as it was chilly at night (Summer of July 2011). A fridge would have been great, but we survived without one for 3 days.
There's tea/coffee/biscuits that were replenished daily. The hotel offers free WiFi..but it requires you to login every day or so..which kinda gets annoying.
The only drawback of the place is, the housekeeping was rather late.
All in all, we totally recommend the hotel, and would definitely stay there if we were to return to Paris.
