“Nice Hotel, helpful staff”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Positioned in a side street just 200 metres from the Republique Metro, it took 15 mins on the Metro from Gare du Nord. The two rooms booked, were at the end of the corridor side by side and you were able to separate this area from the rest of the corridor by way of a separate door resulting in a great family area. Both rooms were clean with lovely comfy beds with great air conditioning, don't expect massive rooms, this is Paris. The staff a very helpful, thanks Gilles, your tips on where to eat were greatly appreciated!

Spent three nights here in July. This is a modern hotel, in a street with other places to stay. The rooms maybe a little small, but the beds are very comfortable and every modern luxury is there. The air conditioning works well in the heat.
The staff are very helpful and are also able to help in booking tickets and taxi's when required. The hotel is central to the metro, being close to Republique.
Overall, a very pleasant stay and I would stay here again.

Location is on a quiet street and yet very close to the Place de Republique Metro station. Room was nicely designed, sufficiently large and with an excellent bathroom. The overall décor of the hotel was attractive. The front desk staff is above average, but not as wonderful as at some other Paris hotels where I have stayed. Overall, this is a good hotel for the money, has modern features like the plumbing and air conditioning, so is a really safe bet in Paris.

Stayed at Le Mareuil for 4 nights with my boyfriend and we were so happy and satisfied with our stay. First of all, the location of Le Mareuil is perfect!! just 5 mins walk from Republique Station which has 5 metro line running through, and during the way from metro station to hotel, there have variety of shops that you can get everything you need, E.g. Restaurants, Supermarket, Pharmacy etc. Secondly, the staffs are all very nice, polite and friendly. Since we have asked the staff for some information of few attractions and they were all so helpful and help us to find everything we want to know and even tell us clearly about the direction to the attractions. Also, the staffs reception are all can speak in fluent English which is a credit. Thirdly, although the room is tiny ( it is common to see in paris), still it is clean and with a big bathroom with a waterfall shower ( which is more than i expected), also, the bed and pillows are so comfortable as well!! i would highly recommend this hotel!!

Room Tip: Request the room not next to the lift because it sometimes quite noisy when it is operating.

We loved this hotel! The location was perfect: quiet but in a fun neighborhood and conveniently located near Republique Station. The staff was kind and helped us navigate our trip. The room was clean and very comfortable. Over all, we would recommend the hotel and would love to go back some day!

This is a great hotel in a great location. It is very clean, well kept and beautifully designed. The lobby/ dining room is great looking and comfortable. The room was great: clean, well designed and comfortable. The buffet breakfast is great. Sure you will pay less for a roll and coffee down the street, but for about $20 you get a feast of eggs, pancakes, meats, bread, fruit, cereal, juices, coffee, tea. Definitely worth it. The concierges are great, friendly people and at least one very fluent in English is always on duty. Great staff.

The area is great with a terrific boulangerie just down the street. There are plenty of good restaurants and the metro stop Republique converges many lines so you can get anywhere. The hotel is on a peaceful street which is nice after the crowded tourist areas.

Highly recommended.

Been to Paris many many times (including living there) but hadn't explored the area around Republique/Bastille much so wanted to base ourselves there. Mareuil was an excellent choice - 5 minutes from Republique and Oberkampf stations. Republique has about 5 metro lines running through it and Oberkampf has 2 (lines 5 and 9) although line 9 isn't stopping at Oberkampf until mid-Sept 2014 due to engineering works. The hotel was a bit tricky to find because Rue de Malte intersects diagonally across Boulevard Voltaire and then continues lower down. Aim for the part of it nearest Republique!

We were impressed with the smart entrance and friendly welcome and couldn't fault the room which was spotless, modern and comfortable. If you've done even the slightest bit of research into Paris hotels you'll know that rooms are always small and this is no exception. Unless you have massive cases though, this isn't a problem as the room was thoughtfully laid out for maximum efficiency. Bathroom was very clean and lots of space for washbags.

Wifi was fast and free. Breakfast was expensive for what you got as is always the way in Paris hotels. We only did it one morning as we were in a rush but normally we'd find a boulanger to enjoy a pain au chocolat; there's an excellent one on the corner of Malte and Voltaire.

The area is definitely off the beaten track for tourists and for me that's a huge bonus as I've done most stuff before. Republique/Oberkampf area is just starting to 'trendify'! It has a few cool cafes and bars and feels authentically Parisienne. However, if this is your first visit to Paris be aware that many things will require a half hour metro journey. Near the hotel are: Le Marais, Pere Lachaise cemetery, Bastille and Place des Voges. Things like Champs Élysées, Eiffel Tower, Latin Quarter, Musee d'Orsay, Louvre are all a bit more of a journey, but easy enough given the many metro lines that run through Republique.

There were a couple of things that cost this hotel its 5th star for me. One was that the alleyway near the hotel is a haunt for homeless people which is a bit off putting (although they didn't cause any trouble at all). The other was that there was a fire alarm at 8am on our final morning due to some idiot smoking in their room. That's not the hotel's fault, but they weren't very helpful or reassuring to confused and sleepy guests who didn't know what was going on.

Would stay here again, definitely.
