“Not bad for Paris”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2014

The location of the hotel is very good. It is near The Montparnasse Tower and I read that the view from the top is fantastic. The hotel is also within walking distance of the Metro station. We were able to visit all the places of interest from the nearby Metro station. There is a supermarket near by and lots of places to eat.
The rooms are large for Paris. I had two full sized beds, a flat screen TV, coffee maker and refrigerator. My AC was not cold enough and I was able to open the windows.
Service was excellent in the hotel and in the restaurant. Breakfast was interesting. I had fresh squeezed orange juice every morning. There was a machine that took the fresh oranges and made juice. They had coffee, tea, and all kinds of fresh bread. Lots of fresh fruit, etc. The eggs were a little raw and some people, in our group, did not enjoy the breakfast.
The beds were comfortable and I would come back to this hotel again.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street and on lower floors are noisy.

Since a few years this hotel is our home in Paris. Ideal to explore Paris, garage under the hotel, great rooms and regular promotions, extended breakfast formula, clean rooms and excellent room service, friendly and competent reception staff, cozy and lively street without noise ballast and affordable prices (not cheap).

Chose the Mercure Montparnasse for 2 night stopover in Paris onward train journey. Hotel is a very short walk from Montparnasse Station which is a major hub on the Metro. Faces on to the Rue Gaitie which is not a main road so traffic noise not a big issue. Room had modern decor/ fittings, quite spacious so for a tourist enough open shelves to lay out your stuff and a folding stand for large suitcase. Room also had a small balcony. Decent sized breakfast room away from reception area with adequate choice and staffing. No issues with reception, check-in and out very efficient, English spoken of course. Five minutes walk to several good historic cafes, restaurants on the Bvd Montparnasse and 10 minutes walk to the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens. Would definitely stay there again if travelling on south.

Room Tip: Allocated a room facing street with no noise issues although small cafes, bars, theatres on Rue Gai...

For a business hotel, this chain does not seem to have very competant desk personnel. I had asked about metro tickets and they had no idea of what packages were offered. I asked them to make reservations for dinner which they did not do- they made reservations for lunch instead of dinner which was a frustrating and embarassing situation. I would not recommend staying at this hotel

Very nice hotel close to everything with easy access to Metro just 200 m away or so. Staff is friendly and helpful so I can only recommend this hotel. You can tell they work for a chain of hotels by the way they treat their customers. Only remark might be that some of the cleaners not do 100% every day. Overall it's good value for money and I would gladly stay there again!

Le Mercure Paris Gare Montparnasse isn't the Ritz Carlton, but it's clean; a bit IKEA-like and centrally located. I'm greeted with a smile and the front desk staff are always happy to answer my every question. I've stayed here several times, the rooms are small, the bed is decent, the bathroom is small and clean. Everything works. I'm in Paris, so it's perfect as I don't plan to spend my day in my room. It's nearby the beautiful Jardins de Luxembourg. Walk out hotel and make a left and within 2 blocks you have numerous brasseries, bars, a huge Monoprix supermarket, a nice morning farmers market on Avenue Quinet which takes place on Wednesday and Saturdays 7am-2pm. Another block down on Rue Odessa brings you to Blvd Montparnasse and Les Galleries Lafayette. Cross busy Blvd. Montparnasse (carefully) and keep to left following to Rue de Rennes where you make a right until you see Rue du Four (another right) and you'll soon be in St Germain/ "Quartier Latin "area and eventually reaching the Seine River and across the bridge to Ile de la Cite & Notre Dame. It's all walking distance and again I'll emphasise this hotel is about location!
