“Always a pleasure!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2013

Valadon is the sister hotel to Hotel Cadran. Lovely people run both places and are always available to help. Importantly, both have A/C! An unusual plus for European hotels in this price range, they have washcloths. Overall, a very nice stay!

Although officially booked at the Valadon, our room was actually at the Cadron Hotel just up the street from the Valadon. We found the room European small compared to American rooms, but otherwise very good. We liked the bright colors and the adjustable lights. Breakfast was good and service and staff were excellent. Room was clean and bright. The large bed, as usual, was really two smaller beds scooted together; I really don't understand why the hotels don't just put in a queen sized bed so there is not a depression in the middle of the two smaller beds pushed together. We liked the neighborhood a lot and walked to the metro every day for trips around town. We walked to the Eiffel tower twice. We would definitely stay at the Cadron again.

We chose this hotel because it was listed in Rick Steves' guide to Paris and because of its location near the Eiffel tower. it proved to be a very unusual hotel, and very nice. It is a tiny space by US standards -- only 8 or 10 rooms, 2 on each floor. The office and breakfast areas are actually in a different hotel a short distance away (maybe 100 yards). The location is quiet, not really a tourist area, but quite close to the Rue Cler which is a street closed to traffic and full of shops and cafes, nice place to stroll, eat, and people-watch.
The hotel is unique, elegant, and modern, quite different from anything we had experienced. (This was our first visit to Paris so I do not know how unique it is to Paris.) The room was small by US standards but adequate, clean, comfortable, nicely equipped. I was pleased to have free WiFi. The bathroom was (again, by US standards) a bit odd, with no shower curtain, very tiny sink space, but quite sufficient. Some people might find the tiny bars of soap to be somewhat skimpy, but i assume you could ask for more if needed. The wash cloths are disposable paper ones, something we had not seen before, but did the job.
The air conditioning was quite good. We happened to be there in a warm spell and were grateful for good AC, which we found was not all that common.
The complimentary breakfast was about the best i have seen, with lots of choices. They provide eggs and an egg boiler so you can have hard or soft boiled eggs, to your taste. it is served in a cellar room that is beautifully lighted and painted, again quite elegant and unique, fun.
The staff was very helpful and accommodating.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay there. (We stayed two nights.)

Room Tip: We only saw one room so it is difficult to say. one suggestion is that our room faced a courtyard b...

We stayed at Valadon for 1 week, my college age daughters and I, in one room. We were prepared for a small room in comparison to typical American hotel rooms. The room had a queen size bed, a love seat sized pull-out couch, a small closet with a few shelves, a narrow shelf on either side of the bed and 3 wooden "storage cubes". There was not a dresser, so the cubes served as storage compartments for clothes. Strangely, there were only 6 hangers. You would think that since storage space was so tight, that there would have been alot of hangers to utilize the closet space. We got more hangers after we asked. There was a flat screen TV over the couch, which we rarely watched. The room was just fine when the pull-out was stowed away. Once the pull-out bed was out, there was MAYBE 6 inches to shimmy through. But the beds were AMAZING!!! So so comfortable after a long day of sight seeing and walking! The bathroom was tiny, but immaculate! We could stow our toiletries on the floor under the sink. The shower was nice and all the fixtures seemed brand new. There was really no room for suitcases. We just put ours on top of our cube, or out in this little entryway to the room. There is kinda like a double door to get into the room. You have to put your your room card into the slot before lights or electric will work. I think this is a pretty neat idea, considering how much electricity is wasted with lights left on, or AC left on, when guests leave their room. We could see a little tip of the Eiffel Tower from our room. We could see it light up every night.
There is a tiny elevator in the building and only 5 floors. We tried to take the stairs every day to work off the great food and wine we had everyday!
Breakfast is served at the Hotel Caldron across the street. It was a great way to start the day- coffee was terrific! cool machine that made cappacino, expresso, mocha latte, cafe creme, etc. Breakfast consisted of yogurts, cheeses, pastries, cereals, hard/soft boiled eggs, fruit. We looked forward to breakfast every morning!
The best part about this hotel is the location. WE LOVED THE NEIGHBORHOOD! Rue Cler around the corner. Little grocery stores down the street, lots of cafes and restaurants, shops, laundry facilities, flower shops. The street was hopping and lively around dinner time. Lots of young people. There was never a problem with noise. Places closed down fairly early. We truly felt like we were part of the nighborhood. We could walk to the metro stations. The Eiffel Tower is within walking distance. We always felt safe .
Would definitely stay here again, but pack light! When we go back again, I would definitely splurge and reserve the room a day ahead of arrival, so you can get right into the room upon your arrival. We got into Paris early in the morning and could not get into our room until 3. This is typical at all hotels. But being sleep deprived and in an unfamiliar city, 5 hours is alot of time to wander and kill time. It would have been great to get a few hours of sleep, and then get up and have most of the afternoon and evening to start vacation! Keep that in mind if you arrive early from an over night flight.

We had previously booked another hotel which we stayed in for 1 night then tried to find elsewhere to stay at a bargain price in the Tour Eiffel area. We found Valadon Colors on Booking.com & it was a fantastic room, basic, but everything we needed, lovely staff, secure & quiet area because it was a last minute booking our room was cheaper, we stayed 3 nights & I couldn't say a bad word about it, made my trip to Paris!

Stayed a couple of nights here in the "family cottage". First surprise is that the check-in desk for this hotel is up the street, at a different hotel, as is breakfast, which is served in what appears to be some sort of converted air raid shelter.

Half of the cottage is underground, so sunshine, fresh air, wifi and other above ground luxuries are a stretch. The rooms are small, but not too small - we stayed there with kids and it was fine. The room appears to be reasonably newly fitted out. The interior designer has resolved the tight space issue by covering almost the entire underground bedroom (including the ceiling) with mirrors - this adds infinitely to the family feel of the cottage.

The electrical fittings were interesting to the point of being dangerous. There were two heated towel rails, one of which we could not turn on at all, and the other we could not turn off, it was permanently on so hot that my finger was burned touching it. A lot of switches on the walls appeared to do nothing. Beds were comfortable, and when most of your room is underground, you can get a great nights sleep downstairs. We could not get the aircon downstairs to warm, it only blew cold air so we turned it off - the one upstairs worked fine.

Breakfast in the bunker had a very post nuclear apocalypse feel to it. Not a pleasant way to start the day. You would go out, but the place appears to be mostly surrounded by cafes which specialise in overpriced hamburgers.

This was a bit disappointing for the money.

Room Tip: Room 1 is mostly underground, and there is no real courtyard.

Dear guests!
Thank you for staying at our hotel and for taking the time to share your feedbacks with other travelers.
We are very disappointed that you were not fully satisfied with your stay at our hotel. Cadran and Valadon Colors are both run by the same stuff and have the same owner. Thus, the reception desk and the breakfast room are situated at the hotel Cadran. We are glad that you appreciated the design of your “family cottage” room. We would like to apologize for all inconveniences caused by the heated towel rails. As for the air conditioner, it works according to the season (warm air in winter and cold air in summer periods).
We are surprised that you found our breakfast room a bit odd because normally all the guests appreciate the historical French atmosphere of this vaulted cellar.
Trusting this has not altered the image of our establishment and hoping to have the pleasure of welcoming you again during your next trip to Paris.
Best regards,
Valadon Colors
