It is what it is, a well located hotel to the station and when we were in Paris for just 30 hours we had to make every second count.
The hotel decor may be a little tired, but you are in Paris get out and walk around enjoy and savour every moment.
The hotel room is clean, the breakfast room is extremely well run by a very cheerful young girl.
I have stayed in way worse hotels in Paris and paid a lot more money for it. I would highly recommend The Hotel Altona for a couple of nights.
The staff at the desk are very helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Get a room that faces the courtyard, no traffic noise

Good located Budget Hotel. It's simple but functional. You have free Wifi and a small TV with a handfull of stations. Personal is friendly and its clean. Breakfast is poor, no protein at all, no joghurt no cheese, no eggs, no meat, just croissants or bread with chocolate/marmelade.

This hotel catered for all our needs. We were greeted by a friendly lady who was very helpful, providing a map and circled all the main sights for us. We booked this hotel with the idea of just having a crash pad while we were in the city on a short weekend city break and planned on having most of our time out in the city. Its location is brilliant and easy to get to especially if you arrive via Eurostar into Gare Du Nord like we did. We walked from the station in approximately 5 minutes. Its location makes it very easy to get to all sorts of places across the city via the metro network being on approximately 5 underground lines at Gare Du Nord.

The room was clean, fresh towels provided and it wasn't the newest and most glamorous but it was in good condition and for what we paid it represented fantastic value for money. Free wifi was a lovely addition and breakfast was brilliant and set us up for each day. Highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for one night in early September and were very impressed. Rooms and public area are clean and comfortable, staff are friendly and helpful, and breakfast was good. A typical French hotel, just one metro station from Paris Gare de Nord, making it an ideal base to explore all the delights of the French capital. Reasonably priced. We will definitely stay here again.

I picked this place due to the close proximity to Gare Du Nord train station & the fact that we were arriving quite late.
The room was small...no problem.
The room was not clean...still no problem.
Money going missing from the room...big problem!
I left a small amount of cash (made up of English pounds, Czech korunas & Austrialian dollars) in my suitcase when we went out for the day sightseeing. When I got back & was packing my suitcase because we were leaving the next day i noticed my money belt was missing. I complained to the front desk but what could they do? All I can say is thank goodness they didnt take my passport & at the end of the day it was my silly fault for leaving it there in the first place.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Altona in early August 2013 for five days.

The location near the Gare de Nord rail station was the main reason we chose this hotel.

When we arrived we were warmly greeted by the reception staff and taken to our rooms.

Unfortunately as we arrived they were suffering a power outage so the lift wasn't available and we had to walk up four flights of stairs with a torch we brought along (no emergency lights working) to get to our room.

The rooms were quite small and definitely in need of refurbishment. Some wall fittings were held up by one half of the required screws and the bathroom door wouldn't stay shut unless you held it closed and locked it. The carpet was poorly fitted and the spare pillows were dirty and had not been cleaned in some time.

The room had double glazed windows which was a bonus although it didn't exactly drown out the loud conversations from the drunks and loiterers who camped out every night on the street below the hotel (near the wine shop; grocery store and moped parking bay).

Only one full sized towel was found in our room on arrival and even though we asked for a second towel it took over a day for it to arrive. The hotel also advertised that it had a safe deposit box available but when asking staff and trying to secure our passports, they advised that neither the rooms nor hotel had any safekeeping facility available.

Breakfast was available at a modest price in the basement rooms but we found that with no ventilation' cooling or otherwise the cramped dining area was quite stuffy. The food provision was basic and suffice to get one started for the day.

Free WiFi is available in the rooms.

Several grocery stores are available outside the hotel so you can top up your supplies.

Subway stations Barbès - Rochechouart and Poissonnière are within a few minutes walk of the hotel.

Regardless of the outdated furnishings and other issues we had, we actually enjoyed our stay and would consider staying there again if location and price was the overriding requirement.

Room Tip: Definitely choose a top floor and a room away from the main road!! Jump on one if the open top bus...
