“lovely, well situated, clean, centrally located small hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2010

This was the perfect hotel for my first trip to Paris. I came with my 11 year old daughter. The hotel is very clean. Also very small, situated in a residential area in the 7th arrondisement. Free internet access is provided - ask the concierge for the password. It offers breakfast - either "petit dejuner" which is coffee or tea, juice, breads and jam, or a larger breakfast with eggs, toast and fruit (both for an extra charge) Our room was small by American standards, but all we really needed. We stayed in room 27, equipped with 2 twin beds, small closet, mini-fridge, safe, TV, AIR CONDITIONING, and large bathroom with bath, sink, and stocked with towels, washcloths, water glasses, hand soap, shower gel, shampoo and lotion. Apparently, there are larger rooms, as a family of 4 is staying here as well. Across the street there is a small grocery store, and laundry / dry cleaner. Down the street is a lovely fruit shop and also a yummy bakery. Also in the same block are a pharmacy, and 2 banks with cash machines. Many good cafes and restaurants within 5 - 10 minute walk. 5 minute walk to the Invalides Metro stop so very easy to take Metro transport almost anywhere. (Get a Paris Visite pass at the station for the number of days you will be there and you won't have to buy a ticket for every trip on the Metro. If you plan to leave the central city, get one for zones 1-6, otherwise zones 1-3 will do.) Staff was very friendly, and the concierges at the front desk all spoke English passably well. The hotel is VERY reasonably priced for Paris. The neighborhood is quiet, and safe. We would definitely stay here again.

We had a great time at hotel de varenne.
The rooms are spacious and clean and the bedding is perfect.
The staff were helpful and courteous.
We had breakfast every morning in the little garden, a real plus.
Look no further this is the ideal place for a romantic stay in Paris.

I had low expectations of Parisian hotels based on everything I had read--and the fact that I don't like hotels as a general rule--but this one really was a great find. The rooms were very spacious and clean, the bathrooms new and very modern, service was good (we got to switch rooms because the people upstairs were loud), computer/internet available, and the location was great. There is some noise from the street in the morning, so a room in the back would be preferable, and the beds are slabs, but otherwise a very pleasant experience.

This is a wonderful little hotel, Charming courtyard, great bathrooms, perfect location, high-speed wifi. Two service-related issues that would make it even better: 1) Get "Do not disturb" signs for the doors, so housekeeping doesn't come knocking at the wrong time; and 2) Have a breakfast buffet instead of full service, or at least add another server. I sat and waited...and waited...and waited...for the one server just to clear the finished breakfast dishes in front of me from the previous guest. She cleared the table next to mine, even though no one was sitting there, but ignored the mess in front of me! So I asked for a menu, thinking she thought they were my dishes. Still no dish removal, let alone a cup of coffee. I finally gave up and left. Since it was a Sunday morning, nothing else was open. Here's a tip: buy something yummy the day before from one of the many nearby markets and cafes and have it for breakfast instead. It'll be far cheaper than the hotel breakfast, too. I had a leftover sandwich, which saved the day!

Stayed at the Hotel de Varenne while vacationing in France. The hotel is centrally located and an easy walk to most major sights in Paris. The staff are great, friendly greetings and willing to help you with whatever you need. The rooms are nice but not extravagant. The walls are a little thin but fortunately we had good neighbors. Free wireless internet. For the money it was a great value. Also has a grocery store right across the street and two bakeries a few doors down which is always nice.

Good hotel, but could be excellent
by CLaud Regnard -

Recently decorated, very clean, good position, with pleasant outside courtyard when it is warm. Friendly and helpful staff. Free WiFi available throughout. Very few spaces for breakfast if the outside cannot be used, but breakfast is available in many cafes. The rooms are well equipped including a fridge, but the lack of coffee or tea making facilities was a surprising omission frustrating for the price. Air conditioning is available when it is hot, but in cold weather the central heating system only comes on in the early morning, so our room was cold in the evening. A good hotel that with a few improvements could be excellent.
