“Wonderfully quiet & Great Location”
Reviewed 23 May 2011

I stayed at the Hotel during spring-break in April 2011. I traveled to Paris with my 16-year old daughter, on a promised mother-daughter France vacation. The hotel is located 1 block from the Seine across from the Notre Dame Cathedral, and a 5 min. walk to the Sainte Chapelle, Conciergerie and Musee de Cluny and 10 minutes from the Louvre. The website says that is in a great location, and indeed it is!.
The street of the hotel is truly pedestrian, although we did see a car or two during the 6 days that we spent at the hotel. However, since the street is so narrow, it is impossible for any car to go at any great speed. There are plenty of places where one can get a good breakfast right outside the hotel, a wonderful creperie right on the corner, and lots of nice small restaurants nearby that offer great 'formule' (menus) at good prices. The metro is less than a block away. Alas, if you want a great location in Paris, the hotel does certainly offer it.

The room we stayed (208) faced the courtyard, and even though when I made the reservation I expected that the courtyard would have people eating until late hours, it truly is an interior courtyard with no traffic whatsoever. We slept so soundly during our stay that on two occasions we woke up past 10! The room was small but comfortable. But it is Paris after all, and with so much to see and do, who wants to spend too much time in any hotel?? The bathroom was also small, but impeccable and recently renovated. The shower was especially nice, with good water pressure.
During our stay my Credit Card was lost (later reappeared) before I was able to settle my bill, and Mr. Andre at the Reception could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The hotel staff were all extremely polite and friendly.
We had a great experience at the hotel. I would recommend this small hotel without any hesitation to anyone who wants a nice, comfortable, no-frills hotel for a good price.

My husband, myself and our 23 yr old daughter spend 4 nights in the Hotel Eugenie. It was a perfect hotel for us .The room had a double bed and a single bed with plenty of room for our suitcases. It had a mini fridge, hair dryer, towel warmer and free wi-fi. Most importantly, it was quiet, very clean and the water pressure was great!

Breakfast was not included.but plenty of places nearby to pick something up

There was always someone at the front desk and they could not have been nicer. Always willing to help and direct. Thank you Sophie for all your help! The small lobby had many pamphlets, a TV and a couple of couches.

The location was the best. Right in the heart of the Latin Quarter with tons of restaurants, bars, cafes and the best crepe place just 2 doors down. Just off Blvd St. Michel and very very close to Notre Dame and Saint Chappelle. Plus walking distance to everything!!

The Hotel Eugenie really made our stay in Paris the greatest experience and besides, we were basically out of the room all day sightseeing. So, if you are looking for a hotel room to be in all day and you are looking for something expensive and luxurious then this is not the hotel for you. If you are looking for a great hotel in a great location for a great price, you have found your place!

Enjoy!

The location first - its great - right across the bridge from Notre Dame, right in the middle of the latin quarter, great for cafes, restaurants (The restaurant virtually opposite the hotel doorway was very good and the duck was lovely!), very easy access for the metro. The Hotel - easy to find, staff friendly enough and when we asked if we could have extra pillows they got them that same day. The room wasnt huge but fine for a long weekend visit. We had a twin room, beds ok, clean, bathroom fairly modern - only bad part of bathroom - the shower screen had obviously fallen off at some point and they hadnt bothered to replace it so (you could tell there was once one there as there was a white plaster line down the wall) so showering did mean we sprayed water into the bathroom even though we tried hard not to- bit annoying! - We had a room at the back so it was quiet which was good as I think it would have been much more noisey if the room had faced the front street - We didnt go for the hotels breakfast as there were lots of cafes and patisseries selling lovely fresh breads and coffees for half the price and less, of the hotel breakfast - so worth shopping around the local streets really! - I love paris and have stayed in various locations usually north of the river and closer to the Gare Du nord area, so this was the first time Ive stayed in this area and Id say you cant beat it for location! - you can walk EVERYWHERE from here - Worth a go!

We stayed at Hotel Eugenie three nights around New Year's. We had two rooms with two twin beds in each, on the 2nd floor. We booked last minute over the phone and so got a higher rate than the 3-star hotel where we had previously stayed and which had no availability for those nights.

The hotel is on the same street as lots of cheap eateries (including a bakery, two or three Mediterranean restaurants, a pizza place, a Subway). Additionally, there are lots more touristy eating places within walking distance. The St Michel Metro stop is super close. The hotel is about a 10-12 min walk to Notre Dame.

The rooms were adequate. There were a few stains here and there on the carpet, and the furniture was a bit old. Generally the cleanliness level could be a bit higher. The larger room had a very large window and was filled with light during the daytime. The smaller room was fairly cramped. Opening the windows brought in lots of noise from the street, since it’s generally a busy street. The bathrooms did not have toiletries but instead had soap/shampoo from a dispenser, one near the sink and one in the shower. The larger of the two rooms had a tub in the bathroom, while the other bathroom had a shower only and was very small. There was little counter space in the bathrooms. WiFi connection in the rooms was decent but sometimes unreliable.

Service from the staff was mixed. One friendly front desk person offered to call us a cab to the airport for our return flight, but on the other hand they were unable to give us an extra pillow when we requested one. Perhaps we might have had more luck requesting it from the maid?

We had a satisfactory stay overall. We liked the convenient location but this is definitely a no frills hotel.

My girlfriend and I travelled to Paris for two nights on the 25th and 26th on November. It was our first time ever in the city. After reading various reviews of nonexpensive hotels which were centrally located we decieded to book into hotel eugenie.
Our budget wasn't big by any stretch of the imagination but I would say the E135 a night was reasonable when taking into account to the hotels brilliant location and simple, yet very good, service. The hotel is literally a 2 minute walk from the local Metro (St Michel) which connects to all the tourist attractions we wanted to see (Eifell Tower, La Lourve, Champs de Lysee) and a 5 minute walk to the banks of the river seine and Notre Dame Cathederal, which was brilliant.
Apart from tourist attractions in other parts of the city the hotel is located on a busy street in the latin quarter with plenty to do (food, drink, cinema!!), so we felt a little overwhelmed with the amount of things to spend the day doing !!! not a bad thing.
The service in the hotel was good and the staff were very friendly. I left my phone behind in my room when checking out (rushing for a 6.30 am metro) but the staff posted it over to Ireland to me when I contacted them about it. I was well imressed by that.
Our room wasn't overly big but was perfect for our needs, and the bathroom was pristene with a great shower. The room was facing the back courtyard and was 100% quiet at night time.
Overall; a great hotel which fitted our needs well, very central and resonably cheap compared to hotels we looked up closer to the city center. A great spot, higly reccomened!!!

Hotel Eugenie is a small hotel, but very conveniently located in The St. Germaine area steps from two metro stations. There are many, many cafes, banks, pharmacies in short walking distance. We were an extended family traveling that needed 6 rooms for several nights. The air conditioning was broken in our original hotel, so we scrambled for these rooms at the last minute. I had seen this hotel when originally booking, but passed on it based on a 2 star rating. (our original hotel was a 3 star and more expensive). Even though we did not book this hotel until we were in Paris, they kept their prices very reasonable. The rooms although small were very clean, well lit, up to date, had television and mini fridge. There is an elevator and the air conditioning worked fine. You do not hear street noise from your room. The lines and towels were above average. There is a small reception area and a small breakfast area. The best thing about the hotel was the service. The front desk personnel were very accommodating. We had several conversations with different workers and they were all very helpful with questions. They were happy to make arrangements if you needed them. We were going on a side trip to Normandy and could not fit all of our luggage for 8 people in the van. We asked if we could rent one room to store the luggage in for two days, knowing that it was a small hotel. The owner said that it would not be necessary and kept 4 large suitcases locked in his small office for a few days. But, if that wasn't enough, I had left a small coin purse with a significant amount of US currency in my room safe. (They are high up and I am short and didn't catch it when I felt around the safe before leaving). I knew that I lost it, but wasn't sure where. The owners of Hotel Eugenie figured it out-there was no identification and called us. They arranged to have the purse, rosary and money sent to us. Being in the hospitality industry ourselves, this meant more to us than mints on a pillow. We really appreciated this trusted service and having people like that in charge should make you feel at ease and want to stay at this hotel.

We stayed at Eugenie for two nights recently and found it to be in a great location in the heart of the Latin Quarter. The hotel is easily accessible via metro from the Gare du Nord, on Line 4 straight to St Michel in about 10 minutes. Room size was fine, clean and comfortable. Yes, we found it noisy but overlooked this for the most part because of the where it was. Although at one point we weren't sure whether to be angry or laugh as we were woken at 5am by a very tuneful version of The Lion Sleeps Tonight outside the window (even with it closed).
The reception staff were pretty good, for the exception of one night when we asked for a restaurant recommendation and he replied with 'I don't know any'. I suppose it was too much too expect from the hotel??
The breakfast isn't worth it. The house keeper had to stop cleaning the rooms to come down and make it for us. Amounted to a glass of orange juice, coffee, bread roll and croissant - for 8 euros per person you can get much better for less from any one of the numerous cafe's on the doorstep, which is what we did on the second day.
All in all, we would return again because we loved where it was...but take earplugs.
