“Loyal customer now feeling gouged..!!!”
Reviewed 25 June 2013

As a regular visitor to Paris and the Hotel Eugenie, I feel that my fondness for this little gem of a hotel is seriously waning

It's a shame really because in my opinion, it has a lot going for it. Sadly though, the owners have increased prices to such an extent that I cannot see myself ever staying again at the price I recently had to pay. Some may say, I knew how much it cost when I booked it.. correct indeed, but I was expecting things to have improved considerably, and they had not

I will start with the good first.,

There is no doubt in my mind, but location wise, this is the best area to stay in Paris. The hotel is a very short walk from the St Michel RER/Metro station (RERB from Charles De Gaulle airport stops here). Its a short walk to Notre Dame and on a warm summer evening, its really lovely to sit out among the many sidewalk cafe's and just people watch while soaking up the atmosphere

Staff are very friendly and helpfull, with a superb local knowledge

My stay this time from 18th-22nd June was in room 307. The excellent Air Conditioning ensured my room was an oasis among the sweltering heat in the afternoon / evening. The free WiFi had a strong signal and was a pleasure to use while working

I had asked for a quiet room when booking and room 307 which I was allocated, faced an inward courtyard and was perfect

The supplied small fridge ensured my purchased water was always cold

Now, the not so good ....
I was charged €120 per night for a single room. If I wished to have breakfast ( Continental style) that was an extra €10.50. Needless to say, I had breakfast elsewhere

The room was very very cramped and only had one spare plug socket for me to charge a laptop, charge my cellphone, re-charge some camera batteries.. certainly not ideal

The wall at the desk has a constant 7 or 8 taps (noise) coming from it repetitively, I guess it may have been the water in the pipes going into the bathroom which was the other side of the desk wall. This was constant and all the time, both day & night

The shower itself was really small and cramped. So small in fact, that as I moved around in it, my body caught the hot/cold tap and accidentally switched the water from a pleasent temperature to boiling hot .. luckily I was not scalded

I do feel that the bad points listed would have been acceptable if I had paid €80 per night, but at €120 a night, I do feel the hotel has crossed a line, certainly in my eyes

To sum up
Most likely the best location in Paris, but has not been way overpriced for what you get

Room Tip: Corcorans Irish pub almost across the street have a special "happy Hour" from 5PM-8PM. Al...

Old building with modern conveniences. The street bustles with tourists and location is close to many attractions. Front desk staff personable but did not appreciate being given the
wrong directions to find the supermarket.

As I travelled to Paris alone, location was really important to me. The hotel room was simple but met all my needs. The bathroom was modern and there is a 24 hr reception. The walls are a little thin but bring earplugs and you will have the perfect sleep. This hotel is in a cute street, near the seine river and Latin quarter. I walked everywhere, both during the day and at night and there is a metro station just around the corner. There are also plenty of restaurants closeby. I highly recommend it.

My husband and I booked a room at the last minute and ended up with a more upscale (and expensive) room than we would otherwise have gotten. This place costs about $210 US a night in February, but it has: remodeled bath, blow dryer, US razor outlet, heated towel rack, telephone, small flatscreen TV, bar fridge, central air/heat, pretty fast free internet, a new window that opens, new fluffy pillows, firm mattresses, 24-hour concierge, a room safe, and soundproofing wallpaper. No washcloths. If the noise from the pedestrians outside is too much for you, you can close the window and turn on the A/C or heat, or you can ask for a room facing the inner courtyard. Really good breakfast (not included). We will probably aim for something less upscale next time and a little more off the beaten path.

Room Tip: To avoid the noise from pedestrians/tourists/restaurants in the evening/night, ask for a room on the...

A friend recommended Hotel Eugenie so we booked two nights there. The breakfast staff was among the friendliest Parisians we encountered in Paris. The room was very comfortable and clean, with a nice roof top view of the neighborhood. It's a very good value for Paris. The location is very convenient to a nearby metro station but I didn't like staying in the heart of the tourist-centric Latin Quarter, but you can easily walk or take the metro out of the neighborhood. There is an elevator in the hotel which is convenient for hauling luggage at checkin and checkout. My husband said the breakfast coffee was the best he had on our three week trip. We were the only people in the breakfast room which was a pleasant light filled room adjacent to a courtyard. I would recommend the Hotel Eugenie as a simple hotel in Paris.

Booked into this hotel on the 27th December for a 4 night stay. Difficulty in finding the hotel as the front was completely covered in scaffolding and plastic sheet, presumably due to some renovation/cleaning. We had not been made aware of this by the hotel or booking.com. Reception unhelpful with no assistance to get to our room, just being told where the lift was. Room very small, WC so small that it was difficult in use and the shower room likewise. Large extractor fan came up immediately underneath our room, which emitted cooking smells, thus making the opening of the window for fresh air not an option. The only upside was that the room was cleaned daily and fresh towels were in place every day throughout our stay.. The cleaning staff were great but the same could not be said for the unpleasant, unhelpful reception staff. The hotel advertised Wi Fi throughout the hotel but during our stay, despite asking for assistance at reception, was not available and there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The breakfast room was very unpleasant, being approached along a dark corridor and the tables and chairs were plastic with no table cloths, so breakfast was not an option. We did ask for a change of room but despite being told that they would attempt to do this the next day this did not materialise. The hotel is in a good position in the Latin Quarter and plenty of bars and restaurants. Hotel Eugenie does only have a 2 star rating despite it being advertised on the website as 3 star accommodation. The room we were allocated would not be suitable for anyone tall or large due to the restrictions caused by the size of the WC and shower room. Needless to say we would not be returning to this hotel and would feel unable to recommend the hotel to anyone wishing to go to the Latin Quarter.

Room Tip: Pick another hotel.

This hotel has two things going for it: location and the fact that the rooms are clean. Other than that this is a horrible hotel! The rooms are tiny (seriously, the door slams into the bed when you enter the room), and we were (un)lucky enough to get a room on the top floor. Meaning that we could not stand up in the shower, beacuse the roof was so low. The walls between the rooms were so thin that we would wake up in the night of the snoring from the room next to us... In addition to this, there was no aicondition in our room, and very little light. The staff in the reception were quite rude, the only people working in this hotel who deserves credit are the cleaning staff.

Luckily we didn't go to Paris to spend all day in the hotel, so we enjoyed the spot-on location, which was great. But we would never recommend this hotel to anyone, there are enough hotels to choose from. Please choose another.
