Owner description: Located on a land-filled swamp, this revitalized neighborhood, once a center of high culture, fell into disrepair following the French Revolution, but has regained prominence.

We went twice during our stay. Like a village with the city with outdoor cafés and many small shops which where mostly high end, not the touristy stuff. This would be a first stop on our next visit. A great way to break away from the hustle and bustle.

We walked the Marais on a Sunday and found it very crowded with long waits for any type of food. We detoured a few times which helped and the Place de Vosges was quiet and nice, although Victor Hugo's house was so confusing to enter (different payment plans-) that we declined.

I like the variety of different shops, big clothing stores alongside retro second hand stores, shoe shops, bags, quirky souvenirs. Also some great places to sit and people watch and of course historic buildings.

We walked from our apartment in St. Germain and were disappointed. The former site of the Bastille is nothing but cheap souvenir vendors and Victor Hugo's house is definitely a waste of time. The only saving grace was Place des Vosges, which is beautiful and relaxing.

If you´ve seen St Germain de Prés, no need to visit this place at all. Narrow streets, 3-4-floor buildings... more of the same.
