Great location for long weekend away with the girlfriend. We were upgraded on arrival and room was brilliant, breakfast was extremely nice and service couldn't have been better, taking great care with us, would highly recommend! :)

I have just returned from a 4 day break in Paris over Valentines Day. We stayed in this hotel which was booked through Cresta, and it is absolutely gorgeous. The first thing I noticed was how lovely it smelt inside, every day it had a different flowery smell! The hotel staff are lovely and friendly, and on arriving asked us to come back down to reception after we had settled to ask any questions about Paris :)

The hotel is literally just around the corner from the Vavin metro station, and is surrounded by lovely restaurants and cafes. The view of the boulevard from the window is a beautiful sight to wake up to in the mornings! The bed was extremely comfortable, and the shower lovely, hot and powerful. I was very happy to see there was also a bath which was great to relax in after long days of walking. The rooms were a very good and comfortable size, and very clean.
There is free wifi which is of good quality, and a lovely cosy lounge area downstairs which we used on our last day waiting for our flight. (also a free luggage room)

The only problems we had were that on our first day, we came back for a quick nap as we were exhausted from an early start and then the travelling and walking - only to be woken up at 3:30pm (!!) by someone coming to clean our room. She was not happy when we told her we wouldn't need our room servicing today. We also found that the breakfasts were very very standard. Nothing to complain about, but nothing exceptional.

All in all, I have fallen deeply in love with Paris, and Le Royal hotel was a wonderful place to stay.

Booked through Cresta and haven't been disappointed. Chinese concierge at the weekend very welcoming and helpful. Liked that he would allow me to practice my school girl French and speak to my husband in English. We were here for my 50th birthday and everything was perfect, including the weather. Have visited all the sights wanted to see. Local restaurants superb. Beware many closed on a Sunday. We used the Bistrot de Champagne(across and down side street), Chez Clement(excellent menu at 35e incl aperitif, 3 courses, wine and bottled water!) and Tavola di Gio, the recommendations here next door didn't disappoint. Have just returned from a delicious meal with gratuities of limoncello, we would recommend that you book as we were lucky to get in on a Monday! Lovely hospitality. All 3 restaurants spoke good English. Don't want to leave tomorrow but my legs can't take much more walking.

Very nice hotel at near budget prices. Close to two metro stops. Our room had no view but was quiet and comfortable. Staff was friendly. Chilled our bubbly in the hotel fridge and even came up with a couple champagne flutes for us. Decent breakfast if included but nothing worth paying extra for. Recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street are premium and at additional charge

Dear Sirs,

Thank you very much for your positive review about our hotel.
We are pleased to inform you that since your last stay our breakfast buffet has been completed by more choices of cheese, eggs, viennoiseries and coffees!
As for the room you're talking about we think you were in a standard room. This category of room is the smallest you can find in our hotel and they are facing to a court. Next time you'll come at our hotel we will be glad to show you our other categories of rooms, (which had been all furnished with new decoration and renovated recently). If you want to enjoy more views, these ones are facing to Boulevard Raspail :)

"Better Late Than Never"! - This is because this review is of our stay at Hotel Le Royal in August 2013 which is 5 months ago! We travelled to Paris by Eurostar on Friday 16th August to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday on the Saturday and travelled back on Eurostar Monday 19th. Our trip was booked with Avios using 17,300 points plus £280.00. Then I spoke to Joe of Domestic Rail 01233 617913 and got return rail tickets from our local station Biggleswade to King's Cross to connect with Eurostar from St Pancras for just £11.00 each. Although not directly related to the review of the hotel anyone travelling on Eurostar might find the following information useful. It seems it is not a good idea to buy your Metro tickets at Gare du Nord because of the potentially long queues. We bought a carnet of 10 Metro tickets at St Pancras for £15.00 although they were £11.90 on the Eurostar train. From Gare du Nord we took the Metro Line 4 to Vavin on Boulevard du Montparnasse and it was a very short walk across the street and around the corner to the right into Boulevard Raspail and we were right on the hotel. We arrived at the hotel at 10.45 in the morning. Check in was not until 2.30pm although Candy on reception was extremely friendly and helpful and allowed us to store our luggage while we made good use of the wait by strolling through the nearby Jardins du Luxembourg. We also visited Le Pantheon (15 euros pp) and had a lovely meal at Aux Charpentiers, Rue Mabillon which is very close to St Sulpice (where you can see the Rose Line) which was our final stop before getting back to the hotel at 3.45. Eric was on duty by that time and I'm not sure if it was because we were celebrating my wife's birthday but he allocated an excellent room (13) just up one short flight of stairs. The room is at the front of the hotel overlooking Boulevard Raspail and I must say we were not bothered in the least by any traffic noise. It was a lovely touch next morning when in honour of my wife's birthday; Eric and a member of staff came to our breakfast table with a brioche with a candle in it. As I am a singer by profession the natural thing to do was to launch into "Happy Birthday" which everyone joined in on.

All in all we can thoroughly recommend Le Royal Montparnasse. All of the staff are extremely helpful and speak good English. We were very happy with the breakfast menu, the overall service, the room and facilities. We hope to return soon.

My girlfriends and I stayed at Le Royal for 3 nights on a girls' holiday. Here are the pros and cons and responses to other guests' concerns.

Pros:
- Great location. The hotel is a stone's throw from the Metro. It is also nicely located within walking distance to St. Germain and the Latin quarter.
- Friendly reception. The staff at the front desk are very accommodating.
- Nice showers. After traveling and visiting the city, you want to be able to freshen up without hassle. The hotel's showers are powerful and modern.
- Beds. Or more specifically, the mattress. My comment to my roommate: "I would buy this bed if it were offered for sale."

Cons:
- Rooms need some TLC. Let me be clear: there's nothing horribly wrong with the rooms. They are more than adequate. And clean. The problem is that there's little bits and pieces that need to be fixed. For instance, the wooden wall bordering in ours was broken and chipping. It was nothing major but not something any hotel should leave for too long.
- Small and slow elevator that housekeeping holds up. The size of the elevator might be typical of all Parisian hotels housed in converted buildings. However, it's annoying to have housekeeping hold up the elevators during guests' busiest coming and going times.
- Renovation noise from next door. Admittedly, this would only effect those whose rooms are right next to the building next door. However, the renovations start early, even on a Saturday.

Concerns:
- Breakfast. Several reviewers expressed dismay at the quality of the breakfast. I'll admit that it's nothing to write home about but there's nothing wrong with it either. It's your typical hotel continental breakfast. I'd say that if your room "deal" includes the breakfast, then be happy for something extra. If it doesn't, then there's plenty of cafes around where you can get a better breakfast for the same price.
- Room size. Yes, the rooms are small. But they're not abnormally small for this type of hotel. And let's face it -- you're in Paris and will be spending most of your time out and about.

Dear Sirs,

First of all thank you for your review in this website it's always a pleasure for Eric and I to read them.
We are glad to see that you enjoyed your stay at the hotel. Regarding the TLC your were talking about we are deeply sorry for the inconvenience. Maybe at the time you were staying at the hotel your room was waiting for some new renovation. All our rooms have been renovated since then.
Concerning the building next door, (the university), was in renovation too. Unfortunately there's nothing that the hotel could do to avoid them.

We hope to see you again to see our brand new rooms :)
